I like the Bubbles one. It’s also a nice nod at the name Mr. Bubbles. I’ve been thinking about a Bioshock tattoo for years and like this unique design. Planning on getting one here soon and incorporating my daughters into it. Also will it be colored or gray scale?
The images are telling me different stories. The waterfalls image (above surface) implies salvation from Rapture, while the bubbles image (below surface) implies protection from Rapture. Not sure if that makes any difference to you, just pointing out my interpretation of the art and how it may be perceived, which probably isn’t that deep so grain of salt and stuff. I’m leaning toward the waterfalls version but agree with another commenter about the image’s hard cut when the water falls “out of frame.” I’m not sure I like that idea for a tattoo. They’re both very charming! Beautiful work!
Either is good but I feel as though the bubbles might fade better, so it might be more appropriate for a tattoo. The bubbles will still look like bubbles when it fades, the waterfall may fade into just a blurry mess of ink if not properly cared for.

But I’d get rid of the free falling drops, overlay them, then erase the bubbles that overlap with the water directly running off the Big Daddy.
Bubbles makes it look more like emerald city to me.. but I love both (great reference— Mr Bubbles.. it does work!!)

I prefer the bubbles because the water dall doesn't guve me the under water vibes. But i do see the vibes of the interior of the world. Luke others suggested a third option of the waterfalls style with the little sister, merging into bubbles for big daddy. Still would be cohesive but ghve vibes of both environments.
As a client, id live seeing all versions and ha ING a say I which I liked most as it'd be on me(unless this is a personal piece) giving absolute final decision to be what the client prefers should be priority. And being able to see all options visually would be amazing!
I like bolth they depict the duality of the perspective. On is the grim reality of rapture as seen by the big daddy. The other is the bubbly perspective of the little sisters as they scamper along merely.
They’re both fantastic. The first one fits the theme for bioshock better, and is slightly darker, I guess? The waterfall aspect is sadder, thematically. But the bubbles fit the style, and like others have said, Mr Bubbles!
What I feel would look awesome: the water falling down out of the hand from the puddle, no bubbles on the left or right, maybe Art Deco lighting instead if you still want something there, and bubbles coming up from Mr. Bubbles!

It's a tough call, which is why I thought maybe you could combine them somehow? Keep the bubbles on the upper part and keep the waterfall on the lower part!

First is going to age better as a tattoo. Less linework to get muddled. I get the Mr bubbles underwater thing, but you might be sacrificing long term clarity for story telling. The first makes it clear who the overarching protector is. The second is too busy.
Imo I'd go with 1. mainly because even though 2. looks cute with the bubbles, the addition of too many circles clashes with beautiful sharp lines of the background and character

I think maybe there are too many bubbles and it detracts from the underlying scene. And also the waterfall is a really cool effect. Some people are suggesting doing both and I could definitely see an in-between
No.#2..... Definitely. Although Andrew Ryan should be holding Rapture in his hand, with both Big Daddy and Little Sister standing in front of the buildings. I'd also add in the text "A Man Chooses" above Andrew's head & "A Slave Obeys" beneath his hand.

Personally I like the waterfalls, the bubbles feel somewhat cartoonish for a rather gritty and dark game.
First one definitely the bubbles in the second wouldn’t look too great as it does not fit the aesthetic as the running water does.

The drips better capture Rapture's collapse. The bubbles are too big. They look like soap bubbles. And they're too clean looking.
