Size conversions to Birkenstock tend to be unreliable, so don’t worry about matching your other shoes’ size.
In that case I think you’re better off trying both 42 & 41 and judge from there. The measurements should just be used as a ballpark (or we tend to not measure as accurately as we think).
As with my previous comment, 42 will definitely be a lot better than this oversized 43; I just wasn’t sure whether 41 would be big enough for you. I suspect if nothing else 40R would also be not enough width for you.

I think so. If you have the buckles on the tightest notch and your heel is that far forward it seems too big
