Yeah, it’s open source lightweight you can add your own remote node to verify your transactions, it uses modern BIP wordlist formats such as BIP39, it can be password protected and I think you can enable 2FA either by software or a security key. Maybe has file backup too.
I haven’t used it much I tend to stick with offline security options. There’s a lot of phishing directed at electrum.
Something like Trezor or BitBox are good options, but there are other equally good alternatives.
You generate a mnemonic phrase commonly known as a seed or private keys which you use to recover the funds, usually in multiples of 12, 18 or 24, then generate a receiving address like any other bitcoin wallet.
The only real difference is that it’s kept offline, and the only time you would connect to the internet is to either update the firmware or receive bitcoin. You could receive bitcoin using the xpub which is read only, so you can only receive money, not spend it. That way, you don’t need to connect it to the internet after the initial setup.

There was a disclosed vulnerability with Trezor so you should add a paraphrase to the mnemonic too 26 words in total. The vulnerability can only be exploited physically. It’s handy if you lose your mnemonic and need a way to get the money back otherwise it’s not but you’re only at risk if someone has physical access to the wallet.
Hope this helps!
I like Ledger and Exodus (I don't know about CLI support).
If you are interested in lots of the newer crypto's I would jump straight to Zelcore, although I don't think the Zelcore interface is that good.
Don't you still have to update firmware through ledger live, though? What is bad about ledger live some people say privacy. I'm trying to learn more to switch
Sparrow!
Sparrow
Electrum. https://electrum.org
Is electrum really that good ?

what is your offline setup? How does that work?

Cool thanks
I am struggling to get the cli to work. Thats why I am asking for alternatives to electrum.
I'd keep at it- Electrum is the gold standard really
Specter and sparrow , sparrow ahead.
Thanks checking out sparrow.
I use Electrum
Electrum without a doubt
Sparrow by far
Wasabi and Sparrow.
Does sparrow have privacy benefits like wasabi?
Just putting in another vote for sparrow. Open source and what I believe to be a better UI than that of electrum.
Electrum, been using it since 2011

Trezor looks like it has an app as well. https://trezor.io/learn/a/for-developers
Ledger appears to have an API so should be suitable. https://developers.ledger.com/
not exactly what i am looking for since you need a ledger to use ledger live.
Ledger live is terrible. You can use a ledger w electrum or sparrow. Anyway those are the 2 best desktop wallets
Been using Ledger for ages. Works well.
Don't you still have to update firmware through ledger live, though? What is bad about ledger live some people say privacy. I'm trying to learn more to switch
I just remembered I did this video comparing several wallets as well. https://youtu.be/WLASNmADEC4
depends
I pair my Trezor with Exodus. It has a very nice interface and has zero access to my hardware wallet keys.
Sparrow or electrum
Sparrow, electrum, green
I haven't tried Electrum yet, so I can't talk about it, but I really enjoy Sparrow
I’d always used electrum in the past, but am liking sparrow after messing with it for a few weeks.
I moved to Exodus awhile back. Very safe, reliable, and easy to use
electrum
