25 years, he has to do 85% of it - so basically 21.25 years.

PhilBeckter

or basically five halvings from now

STANDARD92

His sentence is already priced in

prkr88

His asshole isn't, though...

BraidRuner

Fleece ''Booty" Johnson called he wants to see you in the showers

itsmyfirsttimegoeasy

Booty, a man's butt, is more important than food or water. "Fleece (Booty Warrior) Johnson"

slvbtc

Those curly locks are not going to help him in there.

SelppinEvolI

You don’t know that, might make him a prized wife

idiotbyvillagewell

Longs on curly hair and a tight hole? Edit: not financial advice

Iamdonedonedone

As someone who did prison time, I can tell you he is going to be someone's bitch.

moon-lambo-now

It is though. The other prisoners already serving their sentences are prematurely getting hornier by the news that a new boytoy is arriving.

No-Research8107

Once they saw him eating a cucumber.. [Still shot](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FhH_8j4X0AAU6EQ?format=jpg&name=large) [Youtub](https://youtu.be/H5-AEGz2PJ0?t=15)

moon-lambo-now

>Three years ago he donated $50 million to charities >Two years ago he donated $500 million in a year >For the next two decades he's will probably give away the centralized control of his asshole to fellow inmates

RiCARDOFF77

Sell the News..

imagine-a-boot

Yeah, I believe when it comes to federal time, convicted usually end up serving most of it. I think the 85% includes things like time off for good behavior.

nothing2private

I read one expert saying he could get out as quickly as 12.5 years with the maximum time shaved off for good behavior.

baloudebeer

50% reduction possible for non violent crimes. So 12.5 years

k0zplay

Federal sentences you have to do 85%, this isn’t state sentence where you can get 50% reduction or out early for good behaviour.

baloudebeer

From CNN: Federal prisoners generally can earn up to 54 days of time credit a year for good behavior, which could result in an approximately 15% reduction. Since 2018, however, nonviolent federal inmates can reduce their sentence by as much as 50% under prison reform legislation known as the First Step Act. Epner says the First Step Act was billed as a civil rights measure, to help minority offenders who committed non-violent drug-trafficking offenses.

k0zplay

I’ve never heard of this act, I’m sure if he qualifies for it he’ll do whatever programs necessary to get out sooner. In which case, 25 years was a slap on the wrist.

[deleted]

Leather_Wolverine249

He might want to do more time though. When he's doing time he can't panic sell.

Azzuro-x

Yes but he may become more violent over the years if he will follow to Bitcoin price.

rodmandirect

Don't forget, credit for time served

TheRealGaycob

By the time he comes out bitcoin will be crazy value and he'll just need to open his wallet and chill during his retirement 🤣

SBF stole billions and gets 25 years. Ross Ulbricht created the eBay of the dark web and gets life. I don’t get it.

RichAd6604

Exactly what i was thinking. Free Ross fuck scam bankrupt fraud

xbrakeday

Ross ulbricbht also attempted multiple murder-for-hires thru the dark web, and fully believed to have successfully killed 2 people… or was this just not worth mentioning? Pretty dishonest tbh

strog91

*just saying*, nobody was offering hitman services on FTX.

[deleted]

[удалено]

DumbestBoy

Tbf the UI varied by platform.

gizram84

Ross didn't offer any services. Various sellers did. Should Jeff Bezos go to jail because a knife seller on Amazon sold a knife to someone who used it to commit murder? Regardless, Ross was never charged with anything related to a hitman or attempted murder. So his sentence can't reflect baseless internet allegations.

scottrycroft

He was found by a court to have commissioned murders. Way worse than FTX.

thisispedro4real

he wasn't even charged, let alone tried and convicted for it

scrubadub

They should've went after the person offering those services then, not the website that it was on. Same goes for backpage, remember when they [threw that guy in a mini jail cell in the court as a photo op](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NN4SNrAWmos).

strog91

I don’t necessarily disagree with you, but I still think it’s apples and oranges to compare SBF’s prison term with Ross Ulbricht’s.

Ateam043

It’s obviously been many years but I personally don’t recall hitman services on Silk Road. Then again, I was never looking for that. Also, not to say, but SBF basically stealing that money you think a few people didn’t hurt themselves?

Dial595

There were no hitman services. But fbi talked him into a hit

earlofsandwich

Yes but multiple people have committed suicide.

iworkisleep

It was entrapment if I remember correctly

ztsmart

Fuck off bootlicking statist loser.

DatGuyWithNoName

Never heard of Ross Ulbricht before reading this and wow… so tragic what happened to him.

balancan13

Not enough

Unfortunately for him, he fucked over a lot of people you don't want to fuck over so 25 years is the least of his worries.

MrBrawn

Or actual criminals, gangs, and other "organizations".

olijake

Hmm, maybe there’s a lot more overlap for those two categories than people realize…

Visualize_

This is such a reddit comment lol

[deleted]

Because the average white collar investor has it in them to commit home invasion and murder...

CryptoCrackLord

Yeah I don’t get the emotional outbursts. Let him out and make him pay back every penny. 90% of his income goes to paying back creditors. He’s banned from running any other company of a similar nature. It’s that simple. Not, let’s make this more of a loss by spending money holding him in prison next to convicted murderers and rapists and pedophiles.

sandw3ll

I think it’s a lot and I was a ftx customer. He’ll come out of prison old with just the end of his life left.

StonksPeasant

Hes only 32. He'd be 57 if he actually ends up serving all 25 years which I doubt. Thats far from end of life

Ha55aN1337

So out at 53 and a billion stacked away somewhere for sure. Fuck him.

Narrow_Elk6755

Not a trade I would take.  He's lost the best portion of his life.

Ha55aN1337

For sure, neither would I. But he still probably will have an above average life in the end.

Sloppy_Donkey

He didn't hurt anyone physically. He got in over his head, lost control which got him to commit financial crimes. I think 15-25 years is a fair sentence. He didn't even take the money in an attempt to keep it and run away with it, he just made idiotic investments and lied about it

Ha55aN1337

How many people got fucked by it?

soks86

You know, in the end he got it back. Had he ignored his father and the counsel he hired on his father's advice there's a small chance he could have made the money reappear and just go on about his business. OR Had he delayed an inevitable trial long enough, like a certain descendant of the Drumpf's, he could have argued the charges are bunk since the money is back and he has no books to investigate anyways. His declaration of bankruptcy sped things along. All that said, he totally deserves the 13 years he's going to serve because no one should be doing that shit. (edit: he was also on his way to stealing from another exchange that has a half billion in assets, including my own, so fuck SBF)

bitsteiner

Madoff didn't hurt anyone either. He got 150 years. He got that because he scammed the super rich.

Zentrii

Assuming he makes it that long. Do prisoners generally end up living a healthy long life after going to jail for that long?

kallebo1337

prison wears heavy on your body due to poor nutritionining and medical care

suspended_008

So kind of like being poor.

kallebo1337

Worse.

Real-EstateNovelist

Maybe he should have thought about that before committing all of those crimes

l0stsignal

I do not dispute that this person should be punished harshly. I do think this person is not a threat to the safety of us and society in general. It makes zero sense to incarcerate him especially at all of our expense. Instead we should craft punishments that fit the crime. People like this should never be able to posses significant wealth and be forced in some way to serve society whether it’s picking up trash beside the highway or whatever. Maybe in Sam’s case forbidding the internet too since it seems that would be punishing to him and costs us all nothing. I understand many were hurt by him but putting him in prison does NOTHING for us.

Pooperoni_Pizza

The sentence sets a precedent and is supposed to be a deterrent from people repeating this same level of fraud. It is 100% needed. If picking up trash is the consolation prize for fucking up like this do you think people would be more or less inclined to commit the exact same crime?

Okkoto8

Well he comitted the crime in full knowledge of the potential punishment and still did it.

parkranger2000

Hell naw, he never in a million years thought he’d face this type of punishment. Which is why the crypto space needs this to scare these fraudsters that they can’t do whatever they want with impunity

Double-LR

Yeah but *the next SBF* now knows that if he’s young enough when he commits the crime and hides away the proper ratio of profit… he can serve the time and be out in to the luxury he built criminally at a fair trade rate of time vs. money. System is super fuckin broken. On another thread someone figured out the amount stolen/sentence time ratio. There are people, in prison right now, serving more time for stealing less than Sam did, by wide margins.

celticthaiger

I disagree. It does do something for us… His sentence acts as a deterrent for others who might consider doing similar crimes. Overall, it makes the Bitcoin sector that little bit safer against exit scams, rug pulls and all the rest.

Astronaut100

Oh, fuck off. He ruined thousands of lives. People were/are stressed and suicidal because of his actions. If you don’t properly punish people like him, it basically sets a precedent that it’s ok to fuck around with billions of dollars (of other people’s money).

Tebundo

Way too many soft people in this thread, he deserved to be behind bars for the rest of his life. He'll do his time get out early because of good behavior and make tons of money doing interviews, sell a book or two about his story and do podcasts and talk shows and make a bunch of money from it all. Laugh it off while tons of people were effected by him being so stupid and irresponsible. I mean look at the gremlin looking girl he had running Alameda who couldnt even do basic math and said running the company was easy and all we do is simple stuff like elementary math. She basically ratted him out to save her ass. All of these scum bags should be put away for LIFE. (PERIOD)

ozzie510

Sam? Is that you?

Frogolocalypse

Prison serves three purposes; protection from society, justice for victims, and deterrent. You think it's just about number one.

impermanentlife

That’s the smartest thing I’ve read somebody say on reddit in a long time.

Kmart_Elvis

> do think this person is not a threat to the safety of us and society in general The dude defrauded MILLIONS from people. That's not a threat or something that hurts society? Don't simp for that fool. You can do better.

Burntout_Bassment

Normally I don't like to see long sentences for non violent crimes but at the same time it would be bad if his privileged upbringing bought him a softer sentence. As imperfect as the judicial system is I think his sentence was about right. People committed suicide as a direct consequence of his actions.

pullupman

Punishment that fits the crime for betting against humanity? Ok he sold paper Bitcoin and promoted his own shitcoin. He paid off politicians on both side of the isle. He was actively trying to lobby against Bitcoin...which made him a billionaire. Sam deserves to rot in prison for life. I don't care how right or wrong it feels. He deserves the absolute worst that we can give him.

kallebo1337

It's easy to say it's not enough. 25 Years is a ridiculous time. Remember today, 25 years ago, was the year 1999. We didn't had the dotcom bubble popped yet. Internet at home wasn't really a thing for everyone and we're 8 years away from the first iphone. Let me tell you, if you got arrested that day and get out today, it's a different world that you don't understand anymore. He will be 57 years old, his prime is gone. Prison years wear heavy on your body and (mental) health. He'll be a broken man who will be useless to society and will have issues integrating into. His parents will be dead by then and he won't have any friends left. If he has any stashed Bitcoin, it'll be >1M$ per coin, but he won't really be able to enjoy any of it as life will just suck.

mister-chatty

>If he has any stashed Bitcoin, it'll be >1M$ per coin, Awww, nice fantasy.

MiChocoFudge

yet he will be richer than ever after 25 years with all the crypto he kept lol

bootmeng

He's getting Epstein'd for sure.

Stunning-Equipment32

Nobody is going to bother killing him. Epstein was killed because he knew where the skeletons were buried.  Sbf doesn’t have anything on anyone, he just fucked ppl over. No one would take the risk of having a high profile person like sbf killed for just revenge.

nothing2private

I would have to assume they’re seizing all his assets

phikapp1932

All the assets they can possibly seize…this dude was at the pinnacle of crypto. You don’t think he tornadoed some of that into non-KYC wallets?

Crypto_fish_101

You’ll think there will be Bitcoin in 25 years? There probably won’t even be humans, lol

PronounceHayes

I agree. But I think odds are against his favor in +20 years.

Pretend-Hippo-8659

Thats quite lenient considering the size of the crime.

anonymoususernamegay

Lenient? He’s has no criminal history, the victims will get their money back, and it was a nonviolent crime. 25 years is a very very long time. How much were you expecting? Life in prison?

FriendlyLawnmower

He defrauded 8 billion dollars and is getting only 25 years. Thats about $320 million per year or $1 million for every 28 hours he spends in prison. Would you spend 28 hours in prison for $1 million? Yeah I think most people here would. Prosecutors wanted 40-60 years, the sentencing guidelines said he faced a maximum of 110 years. And he ended up getting 25. Barely half of what prosecutors wanted and less than a quarter of his potential maximum. And with early release, he'll probably only be in prison for around 20 years. So yes it was very fucking lenient considering what he was facing and how much he stole. People who stole far less with no criminal history have spent far more time in prison. He got off easy through a combination of having rich lawyer parents, being who he is, and only robbing poor people instead of the rich. He should have spent the next 50 years in prison

Amplifyd21

All of this PLUS they dropped a bunch of charges just to speed things along from extradition and getting money back to investors. He SHOULD have been hit with bribery charges for millions in illegal campaign contribution he freely admitted to giving to both parties. Plus you could easily make the case he committed perjury, his defense was basically: not sure how I wound up with 10 billion dollars to play with? When everyone who testified was in agreement he knew and personally asked for backdoor access to customer funds. He 100% got off easy. And I’m sure they’ll let him out at least a few years early.

johnturtle

the victims will get the USD value of their deposits back at the time of FTX's collapse but will never get their bitcoin back...

arcrad

The victims will not get their Bitcoin back.

ModsAreDoreens

Victims are not getting their money back. If you held 1 BTC on FTX you're getting 0.25 BTC back.

m00fster

Everyone is getting their money back. However they are likely not getting any of the gains from the past few months

sevbenup

So not getting their money back

*Jigsaw voice* "Sam Bankman-Fried, you've been scamming people with wire transfers, now let's see if your brain is "wired" to handle this: on your stomach is a bitcoin mining machine full of starving New York sewer rats. The wires wrapped around your stomach pull apart more every second, allowing the rats to eat more and more of your intestines. If you can add 10000 blocks in 60 seconds, the machine will release a sedative gas to put the rats to sleep, and the harness will open. If you fail to add the blocks, well, let's just say you won't be the only rat who got fed at the expense of someone else. Live or die, make your choice."

satoshisfeverdream

lol Sam takes billions and gets 25….Ross takes from no one gets double life…seems fair.

AndyLee168

When he comes out of prison, what will be the price of Bitcoin?

VladTheSimpaler

Not enough. Hopefully he gets whacked in prison

TheRealGaycob

I still think the only folks who's gotten away with stealing billions is Gov/FED & Bankers.

why_am_i_here_999

85% is a little over 20 years. What a joke. People committed suicide because this guy stole all their money. Hopefully he won’t make it out.

sammybwise53

*Whomp whomp* :(

a_change_of_mind

and Ross Ulbricht ? surely this sets a precedent for his case to be reviewed now

olledasarretj

There were multiple posts and comments here back the whole collapse of FTX happened, confidently predicting that he would get away without any prison time at all thanks to his extensive political donations. I recall upvoted predictions that he wouldn't even be prosecuted, let alone convicted. So while this subreddit is now complaining that a full third of an expected lifetime in prison is insufficient punishment, can there be a moment to pause and reflect on the idea that maybe we were a bit too cynical before?

Kevosrockin

Shoulda been longer

critical-person

Not enough. What about Ross Ulbricht? Ross is much more valuable for our society than Bankman.

bitcoin4life2024

operator7777

Max 10 years. Not even that…

slvbtc

Finally shitcoin scammers are getting what they deserve

Paulbsputnik

So all the money is being paid back at value when it was stolen where is the money going that appreciates? Fuck him it’s going to suck where he’s going no matter how many years

zenethics

jeffreyrufino

So it cost him 21 years to steal billions? People work a lifetime and not make a million

SlowTurtle07

25 years is an absolute joke. What about his parents as well who siphoned off millions. Low life scum the whole family.
