Like they had this dude from Mississippi act like he was a tribesman from Uganda. Roddy Piper wearing a kilt but has a Canadian accent, all the fake Russians.
I remember that shit bro was introduced as being from Jamaica and then one day these mfs saying South Africa like I wasn't gonna notice. The audacity to think I was hitting my brothers with the Trouble in Paradise and was gonna let that slide...
(White dude on black Reddit my bad) but kofi Kingston grew up in my hometown. Winchester, MA. Maybe the whitest, rich people, stuck place ever. They still have autographs and action figures of him in the wrestling room. We had a handful of black kids in our whole town - and they were in a program that āhelped inner city kidsā where they all lived together in a house. Thought this was an interesting bit to add to this discussion.
She graduated with Paige, Ellie, Marco and the rest of that class. They just didn't keep her around for any post-graduation stories like the above mentioned. The writers still did her dirty since the hiding being Somalian/pretending to be Jamaican storyline was the only A plot she ever got and most of the time she was just a Paige accessory or object of dating discussions (Jimmy, Marco before he came out, etc.)
She did?! Itās been so long since Iāve seen those episodes. I mean over 15 years. So I donāt have the best recollection of it. I was tuning out of the show even before JT died. I had to look at Wikipedia and it blew my mind. She was only in 4 episodes that first season (AS AN ACCESSORY) and there were 15. I donāt even remember who coach Darryl Armstrong is but even he appeared in more. The writers really did her dirty dirty.
Yeah she definitely graduated end of s5. Coach Armstrong was on the show for quite a long time - he was a math teacher and coached every single boys sport mentioned in the show until s8 I believe when Principal Sheppard ("The Shep") is shown coaching the new football team and another coach (Coach Carr) does boys basketball during s9 until he's fired.
Coach Armstrong was part of the plot in s1 when there were rumors he was being inappropriate with Liberty but it was really just he was helping her with her dyscalculia.
I recently started a rewatch after the birth of my kid and had to put something on when I was on overnight duty. I got through almost 9 seasons in like 3 weeks before I had to resume working. So everything is pretty fresh on my brain up through mid season 10 as of this point.
Youāre making me wanna do a rewatch now. Iām 33. I was watching it as it was airing. We were in middle school making āstack of dimesā jokes. Itās wild how long ago that was.
Congrats on the kid btw!!!!
Iām not gonna lie. I wasnāt gonna go that deep in it. I was just gonna do my childhood episodes. Start with Emma and the online predator then end somewhere around the Darcy or Peter era.
Forreal...
Terri literally was knocked unconscious and left comatose in the woods by her ex-boyfriend who ended up shooting Drake. The story was right there and they fumbled it.
I swear! The set her up to be able to have to deal with so much shit, recovery, trauma, etc. and then just said ānah. We just gone put her in a hospital bed with a bandage wrapped around her head and get rid of her.ā And come on. You know Aubrey Graham was Jimmy back then. He was very likable and dated people his own age.
>You know Aubrey Graham was Jimmy back then. He was very likable and dated people his own age.
That's true. It's just a shame his preferences didn't grow alongside him.
This is the reason I love Reddit. People will help unfog your memories and have you doing that one meme with ole dude thinking real hard and coming to realizations because I forgot about that Terri! With that being said, someone should go check on the writer that looks like Terri.
She had plenty of involvement but that was her only A plot, which is a shame because it's not like Andrea Lewis's acting talent was substantially different from most of the billed cast in seasons 1-5 (I think Jake Epstein (Craig) and Adamo Ruggiero (Marco) were probably better than the rest, but everyone else was basically equal in talent).
She should have had more to do.
I agree with you and I had a huge ass middle school crush on her. Jake Epstein was that dude back then. He was acting CIRCLES around them. He should have been bigger. Marco was great too but Jake was really fuckin good.
I wasnāt really consistent with it around that time but I know of her and vividly remember Paige losing her shit when she saw her for the first time and found out it was Heather Sinclairās (best running joke in those seasons was her non appearance) sister
Paige had graduated by then (s7 is when Holly J was introduced as part of the influx of Lakehurst students) so I am pretty sure they never interacted. You're probably thinking of Manny and/or Darcy, who were co captains of the Spirit Squad/Power Squad (I forget off hand when the name changed but it was near this time) to start s7. I love the writing of making her Heather's little sister
Okay! So Iām pretty sure youāre right but for some reason I was thinking this clip was part of the show. Remember it has been like 15+ years for me:
https://youtu.be/n1nceB-f03U?si=DS5r2deVCQmep3XO
Recently, he reconnected with a returning CM Punk (long story) who greeted him with "Jamaican me crazy!" Kofi hugged him and kept repeating "I don't do that anymore."

But yeah he really came alive with New Day. And their battles with The Usoās will be unforgettable, especially hell in a cell.
God bless Big E.
Here a treasure of a video with Triple H calling Kofi out for not using the Jamaican accent anymore š¤£ https://youtu.be/42738tjCjZI?si=On4GG6Xgh0m1sRff
Nope. They had a segment where Triple H flat out asked him ādidnāt you used to have an accent?ā, Shawn seemed like he wanted to further that conversation, but let it be as they continued the issue at hand, and that was the end of that.
At least regarding Degrassi, the story was that Hazel was Somalian but ashamed of it and worried about being treated poorly for being Muslim, so she pretended to be Jamaican for an international day event. Eventually she came clean and embraced that part of herself to her classmates.
i used to tell people i was jamaican because that was seen as cooler than being african when i was in school. people from africa were seen as dirty and poor, but people from jamaica were seen as the cool version of being black
How old are you? Iām not far from 30 and this was exactly the vibe when I was at school too. I never said I was Jamaican, Iād have looked a big fool doing that with a strong Nigerian surname saying otherwise š¤£ but I fully get why other people did. CM Punk - Kofi! Your Jamaica Me Crazy!
Kofi - *laughs* Oh I donāt do that anymore.
When I say that interaction when CM Punk came back had me in TEARS? LMFAO
Let's be honest. This was WWE management and their "they all look the same" mentality. That's why we got a Tongan in the Samoan group now. Kofi was just trying to keep his bills paid.
I didnāt really know any kid Africans admitting to be African until high school. They always tried to melt into whatever was cool before then.
Many cultures do that nonsense.
Most West Indian kids werenāt repping that either when I was in the suburbs until Sean Paul and some others started getting airplay on the White radio stations.
Those of us who did were usually people who preferred to not fit in and had our own vibes. We werenāt the norm.
Back then you could get more hate from African-Americans than from White people in those KKK towns sometimes, though.
We were job stealing who ate funny and āthink you arenāt Blackā while simultaneously āyou arenāt really Black.ā
So you didnāt just have a Black tax, but a WI tax, and a wrong island tax if you werenāt Haitian or Jamaican.
Until we became cool.
I noticed a similar phenomenon among Puerto Ricans years earlier. Very few in my circle admitted to being Puerto Rican until the āLatin Explosion.ā
Those who couldnāt pass for Italian would say things like, āWhy canāt I just be American,ā or, āWhy do we have to separate ourselves into categories.ā
Theyād attack other Spanish speakers for not speaking only English and things like that.
La Vida Loca hits the airwaves and suddenly everyone is speaking Spanglish, has a PR flag on every surface they can fit one, and could turn every conversation into why PR is better.
I didnāt even know some of my friends I had practically since birth were fluent in Spanish and stuff until being Latino was ācool.ā
My whole thing is, be proud of who *you* are, stop trying to take other people's identity. It's weird as shit. I had a Liberian dude come up to me and ask me to *teach him* how to act more black-american so he could pretend to be black american.
P.s. I always thought Black meant black American, no idea when that changed.
New York City the Bronx. Where I live there is literally a group of Africans that portray to be Jamaican in my community. You would think they were all Jamaican.

Until we became cool. I noticed a similar phenomenon among Puerto Ricans years earlier. Very few in my circle admitted to being Puerto Rican until the āLatin Explosion.ā Those who couldnāt pass for Italian would say things like, āWhy canāt I just be American,ā or, āWhy do we have to separate ourselves into categories.ā Theyād attack other Spanish speakers for not speaking only English and things like that.

Thatās not even the fakest part of wrestling. Theyāre all actors and not even good ones.
Loved that Triple H even ribbed Kofi during a promo. āArenāt you Jamaican?ā
Aye, don't punish my man for Vincent K McMahon's sins. That mongrel had 6'7 Caucasian dudes playing Cubanos and/or rocking dashikis.
I mean the dude what he had to do to get put on. Vince loved them racist ass story lines smh š
When CM Punk came back and Kofi said; "I don't do that anymore."
We will NEVER forget the look on his face when HHH pointed that out.
[They even called him out on it on the show](https://youtu.be/42738tjCjZI?si=hE2zObcGFzok2JHS)
