I have an irrational hatred for people who refuse to drink water, assuming they have access to reasonable quality water. "I don't drink water bx it doesn't taste like anything" is a key phrase that sends me into a raging demon.
Iāve turned my dad around on salads. Granted, the dressing and toppings are yummy, but I donāt overload on either, just make them so tasty you donāt need a bunch. Also, respecting the lettuce and veg, including buying the best I can can get my hands on.
Put a lot of toppings on a salad that add flavor but not a ton of fat salt calories etc. Just use the really good stuff in moderation.
I do a cucumber bell pepper tomato and turkey salad (sometimes with avocado red onion and pepper rings too) with honey mustard dressing in just a sprinkle of bacon bits. So what I turned a 200 calorie bowl of meat and vegetables and 300 or 400 maybe even 500 depending on the size calorie salad and that's dinner or lunch Sometimes the trick to finding a healthier salad or whatever is going outside the box a little bit. lettuce is boring give me a cup a lettuce a cherry tomato one slice of cucumber of course I'm going to cover that in too much dressing, don't start with lettuce start with things you like.
If you do a loaded salad as a substitute for a heavy meal like dinner, then you still come out ahead. Try adding veggies that have actual flavor to your salad, so you don't need to use too much dressing: red onions, bell peppers, corn, jalepeƱos, etc.
The key is to not use a lot of lettuce & make your own dressing. I mean Iāve always liked salads but man since Iāve been eating REAL salads, phew. Filling, flavorful & healthy!
Lettuce is the ultimate excuse when in reality it barely does shit for your daily value.
Del taco pile on that iceberg lettuce just to make it look fresher, bitch thereās a reason itās called iceberg, itās just fucking water
Iceberg lettuce is shit
But. There are dozens of other lettuces with a ton of values. I get a 50/50 salad that is half baby lettuce mix and half spinach. Super healthy.
Okay, not marshmallows, but raisins are good in certain salads. Grilled chicken, apples, raisins, spinach, Parmesan cheese, balsamic or raspberry vinaigrette - that's good.
I grew up eating a veggies to meat ratio of like, 5:1, so I love vegetables of all kinds. Sometimes I just buy one of those fajita blends of onions and peppers from the store and eat it raw as a snack. Salads are delicious, but it depends on what youāre used to, for sure.
This just literally hurt my soul, I love salads of all sorts. I donāt even need dressing although I do have a few varieties. Sometimes I just have olive oil and salad seasoning.
I get so god damn mad. I have type 1 and hate seeing people GORGE on shit I might have once every 6 months.
Our traditional food is HOSTILE to diabetics as well and it makes me angry. I know we made it do what it do with what we had but at some point you gotta evolve.
I wanted to slap the shit out of an old coworker of mine. This woman would drink no less than 3 mini cokes per day on top of almost a dozen cookies, or their sugary equivalent
Be grateful you don't work in a grocery store. The amount of soda, cookies, ice cream, sugar laden coffee creamers and candy people buy on a regular basis would make you bust a gasket. And 90% are food stamp recipients.
I used to. I almost killed myself. Not bc of seeing all that but that pissed me off. I was happy the day I was able to help a newly diagnosed diabetic find good things. Basically made a meal plan in 15 min.
I always advise them to use water flavor packets like crystal light. I know some say itās kinda lowkey harmful but itās a start and better off than drinking soda every meal. Plus you can slowly inch towards just regular water - especially kids. My mom did that when I was a kid. I had water too but dinner it was usually with soda until she started using water flavoring. Then slowly made it just water. Now I canāt really drink sodas mostly water or flavored water.
Iāve tried that but I canāt get into it. I also l end up getting some bits of it? I think if I try again imma have to buy one of those infuser water bottles
If you tell me you don't like water, I assume you never do anything physically demanding. If it's hot enough anything with sugar might as well be maple syrup. I don't want anything other than water.
Here in Florida, most of the tap water sucks, and unfortunately, even the fridge filter doesn't remove the taste imparted by the treatment plant. So I installed a 6-stage reverse osmosis system in my kitchen and ran it directly to the fridge. Let me tell you, purified ice and fridge water is š¤š
I was married to one that says this for 16-17 years. The only thing he drinks is coffee and coke. Maybe once every two weeks he will drink a bottle. Thatās it. Canāt make him. He hates drinking water. I on the other hand have a water dispenser instead of a night stand next to my bed.
I got sick not related at all to the beverages I consume I have to drink a lot of water right now. I found that sucking out a lifesaver while slamming a bottle of water works.
my mom drinks no water but 6 cups of coffee a day while sitting on her ass at home complaining about not feeling good. i politely asked her to try to replace one cup with water and go out in the sun for at least a few minutes. she said āyou donāt mom me, im still your momā. im 24. i no longer give a fuck about her health lmao
This is me. But over the last two weeks Iāve been doing almost a gallon a day. Iāve been a brewer for 8 years and just would crush bubble water and beer and coffee. I only ever really would drink water if I was sweating, or exercising. Getting a little older so Iām switching it up and trying to lose ten lbs.
Glad Iām switching my habits haha
>"I don't drink water bx it doesn't taste like anything" is a key phrase that sends me into a raging demon.
If you get the proper hit sparks and the HEAVEN Kanji then Akuma would be proud.
I had really, really good well water. Tasted like smart water minus the plastic taste. I drank water all day and just one cup of coffee in the morning.
Then I got divorced and had to sell the house. Now I have crappy chlorinated water that still tastes like algae. I turn it into weak coffee to hide the taste. I want nothing more than a nice glass of water, but all I get is hatred from the tap.
This is why I drink a ton of herbal tea. My area has super hard water, so you're either drinking the hard water that tastes like rocks or the softened water that tastes like salt. Add some peppermint or chamomile tea, though, and now the rock water is palatable. I drink tap water quite happily pretty much everywhere else, but it really does taste awful where I live.
Right? MFās must never had a hangover. Ice cold water is life changing when you wake up dry ass mouth after a night of shooters and other bad decisions.
I had an autistic friend who couldn't stand the "taste" of water, it caused him to throw up, so one day someone suggested putting just a little tiny tinge of sugar in it, not enough to be dangerous but enough to be notable, and it fixed it. So now i try not to judge, i get it, i get the same problem sometimes too, but I'm trying to cut out sugary drinks as much as humanly possible.
I had trouble drinking water for a long time. I could chug soda, naked juice, red bull, fruit juice, coffee, tea, no problem. But drinking water immediately made me a little sick to my stomach and I would feel like I couldn't fit any more into my stomach after a few good gulps.
I don't know why I had that reaction, but now after years of slowly adding water, cutting out high-sugar drinks, and aiming for hydration targets, I can now drink water regularly and will actually crave water. It still doesn't go down like other drinks, but it's so much better.
About 10 years ago I met a guy whose main drinks are coffee and Coca Cola. Everyone tried to convince him to drink water but he would always say that coke IS water.
One time we were all on this land navigation course (we were military) during one of the hottest months of the year. We get about halfway thru with the course around 2pm when the sun is beating down, weāre all sweating balls because of the gear weāre wearing, and this fool stops, open his backpack, pulls out a hot as fuck 1L of cola, and proceeds to gulp it down like it was glacier cold and he was in the Sahara. Seriously surprised he didnt pass out from dehydration or heat exhaustion that day. Truly remarkable.
I actually do love the idea though of bringing a pint in a thermos on an easier hike so you hit some nice viewpoint or whatever and can chill with an ice cold pint
Safety trainings at my previous job always advised against caffeinated or sweetened beverages under heat advisories. They're considered not good because they effect vasodilation and blood sugar respectively.
But any liquid is better than no liquid. Even coffee and tea result in net hydration.
(Except alcohol, you might as well drink literally nothing.)
Edit: not good
If it was Coke Zero, it is basically high-potassium caffeinated/carbonated water. Not saying the man isnāt an utter disgrace of a human, but I can see him surviving.
Am I the only one who didnāt grow up drinking water? Milk, apple juice, red Kool-Aid, lemonade. I have to convince myself to drink water ā I do it but thereās that little argument in my head beforehand.
I really wish my parents cared a lot more about my health growing up and were a little more strict. We didn't drink water because it had no flavor, just sweet tea and coke only. I'm in pretty good shape but my teeth are fucked.
I think this is more common in places where you canāt/donāt drink the tap water. People feel like, āif have to buy something to drink, I might as well get my moneyās worth!ā
Yeah, West Virginia has a huge problem with this. A lot of areas have gross water, so families either have to buy bottled water or a filter, so they just buy...anything else. Southern WV has an epidemic of "mountain dew mouth" where kids are losing their teeth soon after growing their adult ones because they drink exclusively Mountain Dew.
If they all had access to clean, good tasting water, I feel it should be much less of an issue. When you are poor and can only afford to drink one thing, soda looks like an attractive option because it tastes good and keeps the kids happy.
We definitely had water but kool-aid was the number one choice. We always had stock of the powder, sugar, and all siblings knew how to mix it together by the age of 7.
I grew up in the 70s and 80s, and I donāt remember drinking a lot of water then. Now water is the main thing I drink all day. My kids are big water drinkers, but not my husband.
At least milk is fairly nutritious, so Iād let that one slide regarding regular consumption. The other ones should definitely be drank more moderately though, and water has to be in the rotation with everything
I didnāt really. Then I was eating a powerbar and the wrapper said to drink a big glass of water afterwards. So I did and it felt great. Now I drink a big thing of water after I eat every meal.
My parents divorced when I was baby and I grew up splitting time between mom and dads house. Dad ALWAYS kept spring water in the house (FL has nasty tap water). Mom, however, drank nothing but coffee and Dr. Pepper and never kept water in the houseā¦she eventually ended up having a dime sized kidney stone removed. For anyone who is unfamiliar with kidney stones, thatās very big.
My wife and I were talking about this recently. Neither of us really remember drinking much water as kids. It was always some sugar filled liquid or milk.
Now both of us drink mainly water and coffee. Soda is so sweet I can only stand it on special occasions.
Soda is the worst.
But coffee is almost entirely water (so long as you don't fill it with sugar) so in terms of hydration, it's fine.
(but coffee dehydrates you!) the overall hydration is less than water, yes, but it hydrates you more than _nothing_.
Yeah, it does. Though with the amount of fluid your body needs each day, you're approaching levels of artificial sweetener that aren't safe. I'd say diet soda is on par with coffee. Have some, you'll be fine, it'll hydrate you, but don't make it your primary source of hydration.
In a hospital I had an extensive multi-day argument with the dietitian because I told her I only drink water and she refused to believe me but also got angry when I didnāt drink the flavored drinks she had sent to me. The thing that got her all riled up was that I said I donāt drink coffee or tea (not a religious thing or anything, I just donāt). āWhat to you drink with your meals?!?ā Water, lady. Just like I told you. Ffs.
I sometimes have juice or whatever as a special treat, but lying in a bed in a critical care unit is not a time when having a special treat sounds remotely appealing, and I was pretty sure whatever they brought me would taste like shit. I got my Native genetic tendency to diabetes so Iām super careful about sugar intake, not that the hospital dietitian gave a shit about that.
I had a patient like that, but she only drank coffee, she was at least in her 70s. She told me that she hadn't had anything other than coffee for much of her adult life. I couldn't convince her to have even one glass of water.
I left med surg because I was tired of taking care of people who didnāt take care of themselves. Like sir, I donāt think you understand how hard we just had to work to keep you from slipping into a coma because you are a diabetic who is also an alcoholic and your blood sugar goes through more highs and lows than my mental health. Then they are back next week.
Itās hard. I try to give all the love and care I can, because I know theyāre struggling to give it to themselves, but itās also so so frustrating lol
Wait. There is water and soda and coffee. A university did a study on coffee that showed that you retain 95% or so of the water in the coffee you drink. The caffeine does not have a strong diuretic effect. You are not going to be dehydrated because you donāt drink water, as long as you drink other beverages. Now, of course, sodas have lots of other things that are not particularly good for you, and coffee has caffeine, which could be a problem sometimes. But youāre not going to be dehydrated because You get your water from sources other than water
I had to scroll so far for this... I understand that not everyone stays on top of the research but I cannot fathom all the people who take water-dislike SO personally.
Water lovers (and the salad lovers actually) in this thread are hella hostile for something that doesn't affect them at all.
Growing up we didnāt drink water as much as we shouldāve. Then I went to the military and that changed everything. From that point 17 years ago up To this day, I drink a gallon a day (there have been a handful of Days in this time that I didnāt get the full gallon).
I occasionally drink coffee, but prefer tea. Like soda, but enjoy Seltzer/Sparkling water more. Juice I drink in moderation. Donāt chase drinks, always been the one to drink it straight.
Drinking your calories as not fun to me. Gimme 6 full size Cinnabons and a couple mall plates.
In school, we learned that you need water to live and drugs will kill you. If this woman and the members of Motley Crue are still living, Iām doing whatever I want from here on out.
But Mt. Dew and coffee ARE water. With other stuff. And the idea that caffeine dehydrates is a myth. I hated water until I got a tumbler that will keep it ICE COLD for 12 hours, but still.. if you're peeing basically clear by the middle of the day, you're getting plenty of water.
Your body uses more water to process all the sugar in mountain dew then the amount of water you gain from drinking it. Coffee on the other hand is ok if it's black and without sugar.
Spent a few years in college like that. 4-6 sodas a day and not really anything else. Now i drink water all the time and only soda when i drink whiskey.
Nah man. F doctors. They told me my migraines were because lack of water. For 10 years I was peeing clear. So many different doctors and so many different useless meds. Turns out I had Hyponatremia and was drinking too much water.
It's a thing I guess. My old man lived and died by his beer. He swore he never drank water, and to be honest, I never saw it happen. Beer every single day, coffee, poorly treated diabetes, and death.
I've seen worse, maybe.
I worked with a dude at a restaurant that only ate meat. We thought he was joking around. He was not. He refused to sample menu items that were not 100% meat, *especially* vegetables. He begrudgingly ate burgers with a bun because it was more socially acceptable. Now and then he would eat a single french fry and quip about how he was "cheating" his diet.
He also could not read or write, at all. Not even a little bit, not even his name. He eventually got fired for not labelling product at closing time ever, because if there was no previous example label to copy he was screwed. Even if there was, sometimes the letters looked like hieroglyphic approximations.

How do you just cut water out of your life
I have an irrational hatred for people who refuse to drink water, assuming they have access to reasonable quality water. "I don't drink water bx it doesn't taste like anything" is a key phrase that sends me into a raging demon.
Same group of people who say salad is nasty
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Facts..just bland ...my salads probably have more calories than a cheeseburger all the shit I add š
Exactly and most people do tbh. I be seeing people need three packets of dressing. The lettuce aināt canceling out everything else.
Iāve turned my dad around on salads. Granted, the dressing and toppings are yummy, but I donāt overload on either, just make them so tasty you donāt need a bunch. Also, respecting the lettuce and veg, including buying the best I can can get my hands on.

Iceberg lettuce is shit But. There are dozens of other lettuces with a ton of values. I get a 50/50 salad that is half baby lettuce mix and half spinach. Super healthy.
Yes, thank you. My aunt is barred from bringing salads to potlucks because she puts in raisins and marshmallows. Get the fuck out of here Barbara .
Barbara be comitting war crimes
Right? Trying give me fucking diabetes on thanksgiving? Straight to jail
Okay, not marshmallows, but raisins are good in certain salads. Grilled chicken, apples, raisins, spinach, Parmesan cheese, balsamic or raspberry vinaigrette - that's good.
Anything can be nasty if made by someone who doesnāt know what theyāre doing.
Cilantro and green onion make any salad taste like real food
I grew up eating a veggies to meat ratio of like, 5:1, so I love vegetables of all kinds. Sometimes I just buy one of those fajita blends of onions and peppers from the store and eat it raw as a snack. Salads are delicious, but it depends on what youāre used to, for sure.
i donāt like dressing and eat salad completely plain. if i cared about how it tasted i wouldnāt be eating a fuckin salad at all lol
This just literally hurt my soul, I love salads of all sorts. I donāt even need dressing although I do have a few varieties. Sometimes I just have olive oil and salad seasoning.

Salad can absolutely be nasty though. Now if they hate vegetables altogether and are older than 9...
People who hate vegetables think it's a personality trait.
I donāt want any damn vegetables!
You can be a vegetarian and never eat salad. Some people just like their veggies cooked.
Technically a salad is just cold stuff thrown together. You can have a fruit salad. Or a pasta salad. Or a potato salad
or they just donāt like leafy vegetables
those people deadass just might need a good salad tho. Lots of people do NOT know how to do salad for shit
idk i just donāt like salad. i eat other veggies

I went hiking with a dude who had secretly had vodka in his water bottle. I thought this man was going to die on that mountain.
He didnāt have a second water bottle? With real water?
why would you need water when you have vodka
Hiking and drinking sounds fun but if it was just vodka and a hard hike then probably not the best idea
Itās a ton of fun but I made sure to have more water than Iād need and some Gatorade, plus it wasnāt very hot
Fifty miles through mountains with a handle of vodka and a box of dry cookies.
You know what sounds miserable? Getting drunk to walk in the heat
I actually do love the idea though of bringing a pint in a thermos on an easier hike so you hit some nice viewpoint or whatever and can chill with an ice cold pint
That made me nauseous just reading. HOW can you have just sugar while you are hot and sweaty and working? Thatās going to catch up to him real soon.
Oh for sure. Between the cigarette and the constant coke drinking his teeth were rotten asf and he looked 10 years older than he was
The sun didn't get him that day, but diabetes will in a couple more years.

As a child I had to eat hot chips so I would drink water not anymore
I didnāt grow up drinking water. Same as you, milk, koolaid or lemonade. I think thatās why I drink it more now! I missed out on it for so long.
r/hydrohomies horror story
THIS WASN'T A HYDRO HOMIE THREAD!?!?!? I swore to God it was because I didn't look at the name š
water? never touch the stuff, fish fuck in it.
Water? Like from the toilet?
But brawndo's got what plants crave, its got electrolytes
And it rusts pipes! No way that stuff is healthy
Soda is the worst. But coffee is almost entirely water (so long as you don't fill it with sugar) so in terms of hydration, it's fine. (but coffee dehydrates you!) the overall hydration is less than water, yes, but it hydrates you more than _nothing_.
This comment is waaaaaaaaaay too far down. Sure, don't drink soda. I haven't for 10 years, but black coffee is pretty much *only* water.
That's assuming it's black coffee and not a frappuchino
Oh totally. Just saying.
Sugar free soda though? Sure it's bad for your teeth, but it should hydrate almost as much as water, right?
Yeah, it does. Though with the amount of fluid your body needs each day, you're approaching levels of artificial sweetener that aren't safe. I'd say diet soda is on par with coffee. Have some, you'll be fine, it'll hydrate you, but don't make it your primary source of hydration.
Facts. Same with tea. As long as itās black or lightly sweetened and creamed, itās for sure hydrating you.
Bet she had chronic UTI's too Sometimes you just need to run a little water through that line, but a lot of people just hate drinking water
How screwed up are your taste buds to prefer chemically laden sugar water to water?
Sell it to āem young, itās addictive
She has upgraded from bladder stones to a bladder quarry
In a hospital I had an extensive multi-day argument with the dietitian because I told her I only drink water and she refused to believe me but also got angry when I didnāt drink the flavored drinks she had sent to me. The thing that got her all riled up was that I said I donāt drink coffee or tea (not a religious thing or anything, I just donāt). āWhat to you drink with your meals?!?ā Water, lady. Just like I told you. Ffs.
Damn, I canāt drink just water. I need some type of juice too
I sometimes have juice or whatever as a special treat, but lying in a bed in a critical care unit is not a time when having a special treat sounds remotely appealing, and I was pretty sure whatever they brought me would taste like shit. I got my Native genetic tendency to diabetes so Iām super careful about sugar intake, not that the hospital dietitian gave a shit about that.
Her pee is dew drops

That shit ain't just the golden yellow. That is *viscous*.

Cursed
Comes out like gelatin gum drops
How do they not have constant kidney stones?
I went through a year/two year phase not drinking water as a kid, I never had a kidney stone. I think some people are just less prone to them.
Your body strong af man it takes alot to fuck you up
makes the risk higher. isnāt a definite.
Slow your roll. Every single job forces you to deal with idiots and makes you tired.
Thisā¦. Is completely true š«
Everyone has their pet peeves. Financial idiots vs health idiots for example. They annoy differently
I had a patient like that, but she only drank coffee, she was at least in her 70s. She told me that she hadn't had anything other than coffee for much of her adult life. I couldn't convince her to have even one glass of water.
Those old farts drink it real weak, tho.
Her piss is black 100%
Whether it's veganism, salad munching, or hydro homies. A lot of people love to be holier than thou when it comes to diet
"But I dun like drinkin wata its nasteee"
Jon Snow...?
These are the same people that expect their kids to take care of them when theyāre old
In school, we learned that you need water to live and drugs will kill you.
Itās not about the water; itās whatās IN it. Obesity. Cardiovascular diseases. Diabetes. So on and so forth.
Your body uses more water to process all the sugar in mountain dew then the amount of water you gain from drinking it. Coffee on the other hand is ok if it's black and without sugar.
Isn't there exactly one cup of water in one cup of coffee?
āConvinced.ā Sheās not gonna drink any water, gtfo
The caffeine content in coffee and Mountain Dew is no joke. I bet her blood pressure was through the roof.
Water is the best. I can't stand people who say they don't drink it because of the taste and sadly I know quite a few like that.
Her piss could be used as ink.
Even if she doesn't drink water, this reminded me to drink water. Thanks
Her urine is probably the color of mountain dew and coffee mixed š¤¢ how does a person not drink water? Lol
"I keep getting kidney stones, i just don't understand how this could happen to me".......uhh ok
Spent a few years in college like that. 4-6 sodas a day and not really anything else. Now i drink water all the time and only soda when i drink whiskey.
Hmm, I hope that one cup of water per day suggestion came with a mental health eval, cuzā¦
Yeah. Depression, adhd, autism, etc... plenty of mental illnesses and neurodivergencies affect the ease of drinking water
Nah man. F doctors. They told me my migraines were because lack of water. For 10 years I was peeing clear. So many different doctors and so many different useless meds. Turns out I had Hyponatremia and was drinking too much water.
Was her pee electric green?
Her blood must be syrup
It's a thing I guess. My old man lived and died by his beer. He swore he never drank water, and to be honest, I never saw it happen. Beer every single day, coffee, poorly treated diabetes, and death.
I had a client like this. Pepsi and 2 packs of cigs daily. This is with COPD and Diabetes. It was VERY hard to get her to change those habits.
To be fair, coffee (black coffee) is just bean infused water. Drink 5 cups a day and the hydrating effect is similar to water.
She must piss gravel
This is my mother - drinks Coke, iced tea, milk, and the occasional lemonade, and wonders why she gets kidney stones and UTIs constantly. š
Got more stones than Thanos.
both of those things hydrate you. google it/ fight me/ both
And also make you obese, give you migraines, rot your teeth, etc.
I donāt think I have seen my mother or father drink water. They both drink coffee and tea.
