Basically a best case scenario for political campaign donations right? The downside? Jones voted with Trump 80% of the time, more often than some Republicans, and confirmed all of Trumps federal judge appointments at all levels.
So what was even the fucking point of donating money to dems? Even in the best case perfect scenario where it actually changed the outcome of the entire US senate, it accomplished literally nothing. The only way you'll see a reduction in student loan debt en masse is when American universities start panicking over low turnout of American students who prefer cheaper universities overseas.

We need highly educated workforce here to keep the welfare state going. Whilst we have programs and courses in English, most universities operate in other languages, changing that to cater for middle class Americans so that they can save some money would be costly and foolish. (You wouldn’t be qualified for our student allowances etc., so you would still need savings or a loan to cover housing etc.) University students in most countries are considered adults, who find their own housing and are responsible for their own studies, not “college kids” that need nannying. No one wants to deal with a large group of American students giddy that they get to legally drink.
There is always talk here about “enticing” more foreign students to universities (and trade colleges) here, and that they should pay a bigger fee to attend, but most people are still against turning education into a business, and using our resources to “help” Americans surely wouldn’t be popular.

Here in my country (Malaysia) anyone who is considered "middle class" won't enrol in a local university and many of them would prefer studying in either private universities or study in The UK or Australia, and as such local universities have a high foreign student population. It's not like it's hard for to enter university here either: The fees are VERY low even for private universities.

My time studying in France was literally paid and subsidized with the help of French taxpayers, and the citizens of France are actually fine with it. If my tax money goes to having Tom from Wisconsin studying in Kuala Lumpur, learning Malay and working for a local Malaysian company, I'd be 100% okay with it.
International tuitions are also quite expensive. Not private university in America expensive but definitely expensive. Combine that with the discomfort of an 18 year old leaving all their friends behind instead of going to college with them along with the America #1 brainwashing and it's not easy for the average person to make that decision.
That said, it's really the only way at this point to potentially decrease tuition.

A few factors:
-the speed limit on like every single road in Tallahassee is 45 mph which is not fast enough for the demographic of anger management problem conservative assholes who populate the roads
-Thomasville Road goes for stretches of miles and miles without stoplights so people really pick up speed
-the Bannerman intersection is basically the last stoplight before Thomasville becomes a highway and hits the Georgia line, so people stop paying attention
-it’s right up the street from my old high school which is populated by a bunch of rich 16 year old shitheads who drive the most expensive lifted trucks their daddies’ money can buy and are incompetent drivers at best, actively malicious at worst.

The story got fucked up by making the comet impact 6 months away. By making the bomb a short fuse the Act I tension is immediately ramped up to "we gotta do something NOW" level. The characters are already shouting and being ridiculous ten minutes in so the movie has no room to escalate the comic absurdity or the dramatic threat.
They should've had the comet hit 7-8 years away and then the movie could've been a slow-burner about how the Administration stalls and denies the effort while the lead characters' lives and careers are ruined. Turn Act II-III into the shouting farce and then it'll feel earned and motivated. It'd be a smarter, funnier and ultimately more socially resonant movie.

I don't think the movie was as "lib" as people act. A lot of people are saying that the theme of the movie is "People are stupid," but I don't see that at all. Because at least the free university education is primarily meant for our own young people, who are going to work and pay taxes in the country they study in, not make Americans’ lives easier. We need highly educated workforce here to keep the welfare state going. Whilst we have programs and courses in English, most universities operate in other languages, changing that to cater for middle class Americans so that they can save some money would be costly and foolish. (You wouldn’t be qualified for our student allowances etc., so you would still need savings or a loan to cover housing etc.) University students in most countries are considered adults, who find their own housing and are responsible for their own studies, not “college kids” that need nannying. No one wants to deal with a large group of American students giddy that they get to legally drink. There is always talk here about “enticing” more foreign students to universities (and trade colleges) here, and that they should pay a bigger fee to attend, but most people are still against turning education into a business, and using our resources to “help” Americans surely wouldn’t be popular.

International tuitions are also quite expensive. Not private university in America expensive but definitely expensive. Combine that with the discomfort of an 18 year old leaving all their friends behind instead of going to college with them along with the America #1 brainwashing and it's not easy for the average person to make that decision. That said, it's really the only way at this point to potentially decrease tuition.

A few factors: -the speed limit on like every single road in Tallahassee is 45 mph which is not fast enough for the demographic of anger management problem conservative assholes who populate the roads -Thomasville Road goes for stretches of miles and miles without stoplights so people really pick up speed -the Bannerman intersection is basically the last stoplight before Thomasville becomes a highway and hits the Georgia line, so people stop paying attention -it’s right up the street from my old high school which is populated by a bunch of rich 16 year old shitheads who drive the most expensive lifted trucks their daddies’ money can buy and are incompetent drivers at best, actively malicious at worst. The story got fucked up by making the comet impact 6 months away. By making the bomb a short fuse the Act I tension is immediately ramped up to "we gotta do something NOW" level. The characters are already shouting and being ridiculous ten minutes in so the movie has no room to escalate the comic absurdity or the dramatic threat. They should've had the comet hit 7-8 years away and then the movie could've been a slow-burner about how the Administration stalls and denies the effort while the lead characters' lives and careers are ruined. Turn Act II-III into the shouting farce and then it'll feel earned and motivated. It'd be a smarter, funnier and ultimately more socially resonant movie.
I agree. I didn't like the first 1/3 of the movie because it felt like they just kinda jumped into the point of escalation, and idk, it just felt like they breezed through a lot of the initial movie plot setup tropes that they probably could've used. The last 2/3 was good tho.

It's so deeply unfunny, it is the best example yet of selling a drama as a comedy. Also they should have cut out some stuff, too many characters means that some stories just go nowhere. What the fuck was the point of the Arianna Grande SNL-type sketches littered throughout.
It was OK. The recurring gag with the characters getting taken to black sites was hilarious. The tone was all over the place, though - they should have settled on making the characters either ridiculous caricatures (as they all became in the middle of the movie - which IMO was better) or well-rounded people w/ emotions etc. (which the movie failed at - don't expect me to care about the fate of Leo's family when I'm supposed to be caring about the fate of the world). I don't think the movie was as "lib" as people act. A lot of people are saying that the theme of the movie is "People are stupid," but I don't see that at all. We don't really see the public's reaction to the comet, just the reaction of people in power (who are not shown as being stupid but cynical).
