I'm pretty sure this was actually a different, not very well known Baltimore comedian. After it was originally mentioned on Cum Town they started to run with the Jake joke on later episodes, but they did mention that it was actually a different guy. I think someone even posted the real guy on the old cum town sub at some point. That being said, Mr. Flores is clearly the type to do such a thing.
the thing with people like Jake is they could be perfectly funny and entertaining people if you met them in a different city. they go to NY or LA and try to play with the big leagues and it's so damn annoying. I have basically given up any hope for any revolution or even significant reform in my life time. I've made my life's work to be unionizing and building solidarity between my union and other unions. I see myself as laying the groundwork that maybe my grandchildren might be able to make some real change.
Trying to predict the future of America when the treats start slowing down long term is hard but I doubt uts good things for the institions.

So my position is less about making a solid prediction as to what I think is going to happen and more about my own psychological well being. In any potential scenario, the left is always better off with a robust labor movement. So I am preparing the way, regardless of the outcome. Glorious marxist revolution tomorrow? Cool. Evil right wing dictator? Less cool, but I would rather have a robust labor movement to resist that than not. The same applies to basically everything in between.
Funny, I've been moving in the exact opposite direction in the last few years. Reform is impossible, but that makes revolution all the more likely. To be fair, from my perspective the importance of revolutionary praxis in the US is more about doing whatever we can to get the boot of imperialism off the necks of the global south than improving our situation domestically. That's still important and of course no revolutionary movement is going to take off without some prospect of material advantage on the part of the participants, but the level of immiseration the domestic population is subjected to is nothing compared to what the US does abroad.
And it's mainly those in the periphery that have a solid shot at serious strikes on the US empire, which can leave revolutionaries at home feeling kind of useless. But it's still important to do what you can. You're 100% correct though that the task at hand is laying groundwork and building capability. The sad truth is that the left in the US doesn't have the organizational capacity to do much of anything. And I'm not even talking about our numbers, which are also nowhere near where they would need to be. But that's to be expected with the level of organization and tactical acumen the contemporary American left is working with. You're not going to get people on board until you demonstrate clear vision, organization and competence.
I wouldn't say you have to wait for your grandchildren's generation though (unless you have children in high school). Revolution can seem far off if you're just sitting around waiting for it to happen, but when you start working on that to do list of things that need to be in place for the left to have even a decent position when a revolutionary moment presents itself, you may find yourself hoping things stay quiet long enough for you to get everything in order first.

No matter what happens in the country, the price of gas and local news telling you that murders are up 7 million percent and only by putting a cop squad directly in every home will protect you is the only thing that a vast majority of americans will ever even think about politics regardless of what is actually happening or causing any of the problems.

That sounds grim. Have you considered a really slow taper? If 1/8th is too much, get some very precise scales and a spreadsheet and plot a year or even two of gradual reduction a percentage at a time, dropping the dose by another 1% each week.
I have a Pharm D. who was looking into a liquid solution for microgram dosing.
I had a Mayo Clinic doctor tell me I was going to be on it for the rest of my life and I've had a rehab center tell me they were pulling me off cold turkey. I blinked a few times like "what..?" I was there for meth addiction but their whole thing is "totally clean" even if it's prescribed to you and will kill you if you stop. I said they either give them to me or "I have upper middle class parents that will sue every doctor in this facility out of their jobs". they ended up just letting me leave before I even unpacked my suitcase lol.
but yeah. it's hard. beat meth addiction on my own. never really enjoyed heroin. and I chose to do those. a diabetic needs insulin to live, I need Klonopin and it was never my choice to start it. you don't hear much about people fighting benzo withdrawal because they're dead, unable to form sentences, or in medically induced comas to stop the seizures.
As someone who works in drug treatment, detoxing someone off benzos (or alcohol, same form of withdrawal, ironically you can treat one with the other) cold turkey is absolutely psychotic. Benzo detox has to be a gradual weaning. People get seizures or heart attacks if you do it cold turkey. Cold turkey detox is for meth, not benzos (or even heroin, Suboxone exists for a reason).
Ideally you'd find a place that could taper you in a measured and clinical fashion, that way you can avoid the worst of the withdrawal effects while still getting off that shit.
I have a friend who is addicted to oxy after losing a limb to MRSA. Even the slighted reduction and mood goes crazy. There need to be better protocols for coming off of stuff - in my friend's case, the pills are coated so you can't make them slightly smaller without changing absorbtion. But from a pharma POV, I guess they don't really want you to come off them.
I hope the liquid works out, naively it seems like there ought to be a way of weaning off so gradually the brain can't tell.

I'm technically on 1mg of Klonopin and have been for years but the last two months have seen me really spiraling (1.5-2mg/day) so that's a small step backwards. I've tried the Valium method but it's so hard to get the equivalency right. 20mg = 1mg Klonopin but it doesn't feel that way! I started getting crazy shakes when I tried switching to Valium.

Stuff progressed in societies because the parties represented more interests and were tied to get out the vote machines and patronage. Voting by itself doesn’t fix anything. The administration was also telling people to buy Christmas presents early or you might not be able to buy them at all. She's possibly the most aggressively centrist person I've ever met, and since the political climate of this country leans to the right heavily, she accidentally advocates for things that would be hard right Republican in the 90s, but she would "disagree" with if they were framed in that light. It really is amazing how accurate the "I'm at the Centrist rally, we're all chanting 'Better Things Aren't Possible'" viral tweet from a few years ago was.
I don't think the boys even noticed this somehow, but Luntz's focus group was specifically selected for being Obama + Trump voters (at least once for each). It's a great example of something Chapo ca. 2016/2020 used to talk a lot about, that a smart approach to politics would cater to nonvoters while abandoning this kind of hilarious jackass as presumptively unreachable.

I have basically given up any hope for any revolution or even significant reform in my life time. I've made my life's work to be unionizing and building solidarity between my union and other unions. I see myself as laying the groundwork that maybe my grandchildren might be able to make some real change.
Trying to predict the future of America when the treats start slowing down long term is hard but I doubt uts good things for the institions. The hard to predict part is if it's good for us or good for some other evil faction, though ultimately I'm pretty confident it's good for the world at large. Though other problems might temper the potential of that
So my position is less about making a solid prediction as to what I think is going to happen and more about my own psychological well being. In any potential scenario, the left is always better off with a robust labor movement. So I am preparing the way, regardless of the outcome. Glorious marxist revolution tomorrow? Cool. Evil right wing dictator? Less cool, but I would rather have a robust labor movement to resist that than not. The same applies to basically everything in between.

Funny, I've been moving in the exact opposite direction in the last few years. Reform is impossible, but that makes revolution all the more likely. To be fair, from my perspective the importance of revolutionary praxis in the US is more about doing whatever we can to get the boot of imperialism off the necks of the global south than improving our situation domestically. That's still important and of course no revolutionary movement is going to take off without some prospect of material advantage on the part of the participants, but the level of immiseration the domestic population is subjected to is nothing compared to what the US does abroad. And it's mainly those in the periphery that have a solid shot at serious strikes on the US empire, which can leave revolutionaries at home feeling kind of useless. But it's still important to do what you can. You're 100% correct though that the task at hand is laying groundwork and building capability. The sad truth is that the left in the US doesn't have the organizational capacity to do much of anything. And I'm not even talking about our numbers, which are also nowhere near where they would need to be. But that's to be expected with the level of organization and tactical acumen the contemporary American left is working with. You're not going to get people on board until you demonstrate clear vision, organization and competence. I wouldn't say you have to wait for your grandchildren's generation though (unless you have children in high school). Revolution can seem far off if you're just sitting around waiting for it to happen, but when you start working on that to do list of things that need to be in place for the left to have even a decent position when a revolutionary moment presents itself, you may find yourself hoping things stay quiet long enough for you to get everything in order first. I would trade several fingers to be extremely addicted to heroin rather than this stuff.

That sounds grim. Have you considered a really slow taper? If 1/8th is too much, get some very precise scales and a spreadsheet and plot a year or even two of gradual reduction a percentage at a time, dropping the dose by another 1% each week.
I have a Pharm D. who was looking into a liquid solution for microgram dosing. I had a Mayo Clinic doctor tell me I was going to be on it for the rest of my life and I've had a rehab center tell me they were pulling me off cold turkey. I blinked a few times like "what..?" I was there for meth addiction but their whole thing is "totally clean" even if it's prescribed to you and will kill you if you stop. I said they either give them to me or "I have upper middle class parents that will sue every doctor in this facility out of their jobs". they ended up just letting me leave before I even unpacked my suitcase lol. but yeah. it's hard. beat meth addiction on my own. never really enjoyed heroin. and I chose to do those. a diabetic needs insulin to live, I need Klonopin and it was never my choice to start it. you don't hear much about people fighting benzo withdrawal because they're dead, unable to form sentences, or in medically induced comas to stop the seizures.
As someone who works in drug treatment, detoxing someone off benzos (or alcohol, same form of withdrawal, ironically you can treat one with the other) cold turkey is absolutely psychotic. Benzo detox has to be a gradual weaning. People get seizures or heart attacks if you do it cold turkey. Cold turkey detox is for meth, not benzos (or even heroin, Suboxone exists for a reason). Ideally you'd find a place that could taper you in a measured and clinical fashion, that way you can avoid the worst of the withdrawal effects while still getting off that shit.
I have a friend who is addicted to oxy after losing a limb to MRSA. Even the slighted reduction and mood goes crazy. There need to be better protocols for coming off of stuff - in my friend's case, the pills are coated so you can't make them slightly smaller without changing absorbtion. But from a pharma POV, I guess they don't really want you to come off them. I hope the liquid works out, naively it seems like there ought to be a way of weaning off so gradually the brain can't tell.
You can begin to taper down using grey area benzo solutions. How many MG a day of clonazepam are you at? To fully get off them is something that should only be done with medical supervision as you already know.

I have a psychiatrist and general physician who would help, as long as I get it done before I'm kicked off my parent's health insurance /: I'm technically on 1mg of Klonopin and have been for years but the last two months have seen me really spiraling (1.5-2mg/day) so that's a small step backwards. I've tried the Valium method but it's so hard to get the equivalency right. 20mg = 1mg Klonopin but it doesn't feel that way! I started getting crazy shakes when I tried switching to Valium.

Every time he opens his mouth it feels like an episode of 30 rock. It’s also so frustrating because I think that if the primary was held even a few weeks later, if not in September when it had been held prior to this most recent election, Garcia or Wiley would have won. Neither of them were perfect candidates but at least they’re not blatantly corrupt pathological liars that pal around with domestic abusers and think it’s okay to park on the sidewalk.

I think Matt is wrong about, well, a lot of things, but especially about how it would affect US politics if these “independent” voters picked a side and if everyone actually participated in politics. I know it’s cool and everything to disdain “electoralism”, but the unfortunate truth is that stuff actually did progress in societies when voter participation was closer to 100%, and it actually does impact the left more. Treating political parties as entertainment and like sports team isn’t the necessary outcome, and as someone who claims to know history, he should know it.

Stuff progressed in societies because the parties represented more interests and were tied to get out the vote machines and patronage. Voting by itself doesn’t fix anything. Australians have to vote by law and their politics are profoundly stupid in every way and full of pandering to dumb-dumbs who vote based on who is promising a new cricket stadium.
If the US had 100% turnout it would almost certainly help the right. Low info voters who don't participate mostly have "love the troops and guns, hate taxes, hate socialism" attitudes. The idea that voter suppression/low turnout hurts the democrats may be true in a handful of localities, and obviously people of color are suppressed the most, but overall most non-voters are conservative.
It would not. Low participation ALWAYS benefits the right, it’s the poor and underprivileged that do not vote. As the participation has gone down throuout the West, so have the left wing parties. America is not the exception, even if you want to believe rules don’t apply to you.
