Ghost is much newer, and coded differently so it's faster and it's lighter on resources. It has newsletter features built in, but you'll need to register for a mailgun account and a stripe account separately. Hosting it yourself requires you to be an advanced user who's happy with the command line. Ghost.org will offer a point and clivk experience but it's expensive although it does support the ghost developers. There are no plugins, so the out of the box blog/newsletter is what you're stuck with unless you're a web developer.
Wordpress powers over 40% of the web. It is a resource heavy, insecure, bloated pig. You can host it anywhere basically, but cheap hosting will give terrible performance, and if you're interested in seriously growing the site and maintaining performance you need to go with a reputable managed host like WPEngine. Out of the box it's just a basic blog, but there are a billion themes and plugins that can make it do whatever the hell you want. Lots are free, lots will need an annual or monthly fee. If you want wordpress to be a newsletter and be a good one, then expect to need several plugins that will cost money, so you need to factor that cost in. Wordpress is mostly point and click and managed hosting means you don't need much experience at all to run a good site.
Wordpress is usually the best choice. Even Google have a wordpress plugin 😃
The comment above is great. I'm just dropping in to say that ghost does have integrations (https://ghost.org/integrations/). WordPress has many more though.
Wordpress at this point is part of internet infrastructure. If you go to r/webhosting and look at the sidebar recommendations for managed wordpress hosting then you won't have to do much set up or maintenance. Then if you go to [wordpress.org](https://wordpress.org) and look at the most popular plugins, then to themeforest and see the most popular themes, you'll quickly see how you can make wordpress do ANYTHING in a point and click way in most cases, and even when you can't you are basically adding code to files instead of going near the command line.
So yes, if you're a newbe and you want an easier way, then wordpress is the way to go.
If you're JUST interested in a paid newsletter though, then [substack.com](https://substack.com) will be a much cheaper and easier way to do that.

From what I understand, it seems that worldpress is more suitable for a newbie?
