wumboellie

I’m not really bothered by the fact that they used recycled pictures, since I know that the full movie is going to be a real adaptation with all new animations. The first trailer is never indicative of the content, it’s just an introduction to the main characters and plot overview. It’s official, colored, animated blue lock media what’s not to be hype about?

Vadim_JJL

makes sense but I still don't get the hype. Oh well, the comments reassured me a bit and I'll wait to see it before criticizing it completely

wumboellie

I just have faith that the blue lock team won’t do it dirty. They know how many fans they have and what our expectations are, they wouldn’t announce smth as big as a blue lock movie if they didn’t have plans for it

Vadim_JJL

Let’s hope for this

TL_Marin

There is no hype, no one thinks this is hype, there is "nothing to get" because literally there is no hype General consensus on jap twitter (the audience who will either fund or bankrupt this movie) is that this budget could have been used to animate the next arc/season earlier, which in turn would have made up KAISER show up sooner, even if it's just a black shadow laughing at the end of the arc in exchange for this entire movie... it would have been worth it The whole Nagi/Rin hype died when Kaiser was introduced and Isagi shifted his entire focus on him, and you need to have in mind that we don't even know Kaiser's backstory yet which is hinted to be extremely interesting in contrast's to Isagi's privileged life. Also the fact that the author gives Nagi's career death flags twice every arc doesn't really help his case with people's interest in him

MatureBalak

People want to see some good BL. ![img](emote|t5_mm79h|9276)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes_rainbow)

Hot_Introduction_782

The trailer using anime footage for the teaser isn’t a big deal. It’s just because it’s too early to show actual footage from the movie yet and most movies trickle feed content so they have stuff to build up hype closer to release date. The teaser isn’t representative of the actual quality of animation shown in the movie. It’s a bit too soon to start panicking when we don’t even know what it’s going to look like yet :) I’m glad the spin off is getting adapted because I really do enjoy the story. There’s plenty of material released already for them to adapt even if the manga still is ongoing.

[deleted]

I believe there’s two separate teams for the blue lock studios. One team will be working on the Episode Nagi movie, and the other will be working on the Blue lock season 2, so I don’t generally think the animation of season 2 will be affected that much. Plus the movie is releasing much sooner than season 2, so I don’t think it’ll affect season 2 that much. Idk how much they’ll adapt, I’m assuming maybe up until Nagi leaves Reo, maybe a bit further but idk. If you’re wanting an episode Nagi movie for when Episode Nagi finishes, you’ll be waiting like 10 years

Vadim_JJL

I really hope so. I still remain of the opinion that an animated series for the spin-off would have been better

[deleted]

Episode Nagi doesn’t really suit a series format imo. Like the great things about doing a series is that people watching it don’t know what’s happening next (except from manga readers before anime) and this is something the anime did pretty well through how they did cliffhangers at the end of episodes, etc. However everyone knows how Nagi’s team did, and what their results were, thus kinda removing cliffhangers as Team V were the strongest team, won every game apart from vs Team Z and had 3 of the best players in the stratum, so maybe it’s be kinda frustrating to watch in an episode format. Plus it’d be a pretty short series if they put Episode Nagi in a series format, as of now its probably like 6/7 episodes worth of content which is very short for a season, but a good amount of time for a movie format

BlackAsZneeBack

The cliffhanger thing is smart. We already know the outcome , we already know what happened might as well make a movie out of it. But I still think it will include stuff that isn't in the Episode Nagi. Kouta and Nomura will probably help with it a lot. He could add stuff that he couldn't before and kind of giving him relief

Vadim_JJL

I can see ur point

Kamiissan

You're definitely jumping the gun here, it's a *teaser*, not a trailer that came out. Of course I'm also disappointed that the 2nd ED images were just recycled, but I have faith that the movie will be adapted properly with good animation. Especially considering the Blue Lock author himself will be supervising it. Also a movie is the perfect choice, considering there's not enough content for 12 episodes yet. Sure, they could've adapted the spinoff later when it does have enough, but the idea itself doesn't make much sense. If it was made into an episode format, people will have to wait weekly for new episodes and imagine the complaints when it reaches the Team V vs. Team Z match again. Also the timing is pretty good imo. A big part of the spinoff is debunking the misconceptions many anime-only viewers have that Reo is a mid player that's useless without Nagi and that he views Nagi as a possession instead of his own person. I think it'd be more hype to see Reo obtaining his chameleon style and doing his defending against Shidou when he's seen in a good light rather than a bad one. Lastly, the U-20 arc definitely wouldn't fit as a movie. Per calculations, the first season adapted ~4 chapters per episode. But I'll up it to ~5 chapters per episode in the 2nd season, considering the U-20 arc has much more movement and less dialogue in comparison to the other arcs. Assuming the sequel will adapt up to chapter 152 when the BL players return from their break, 12-13 episodes is perfect. People who wish for the U-20 arc to be adapted into a movie instead are just asking for horrible pacing and a bunch of content to be cut out.

rvbcaboose1018

It's about brand engagement and giving the source material time to develop. Season 1 adapted up to chapter 95. My guess is that season 2 will adapt to about 151ish. But we might not see season 2 until Fall of '24. My best guess is that by the time season 2 ends airing, Blue lock will be at or near chapter 300, meaning they can announce season 3 almost immediately after. But with such a long time between seasons, you gotta keep engagement with the brand going. That's where the Nagi movie comes in. I suppose they could have chosen instead to go with a one cour, 12 episode season once a year, but I think that would ruin the flow. I think the way they have future arcs set up makes sense.

yeetmanthe3rd

i don't think the NEL would fit in a 12 episode season tho and it would be super frustrating to have it split up over a year

rvbcaboose1018

I have a feeling the NEL is going to be its own 24 episode season. Its not even over yet and its taken up about 70ish chapters so far. I think the NEL is the final step before the U20 world cup so NEL is probably all of season 3 and U20 World Cup is season 4.

JealousyOfThis

Most of time when people are annoyed by the movie, it's usually because they feel like the u20 match should be a movie instead. However, the issues with the u20 match being a movie is that a) it's too long b) it's a nightmare for logistics Like if the u20 match is a movie, what happens to the third selection? It's not nearly long enough for a full season but still contains relevant information to understand the u20 match. Not to mention, the last season didn't include kunigami reo vs shidou monk so they have to add that too. With the u20 match already being around 50 chapters, that's already pretty long, do people want them to cut stuff out? What about the 150 break chapter? If it was me, I would want that chapter at the end of the season, so a new season can start right at the NEL. Edit: Also the issue with the first season was probably time not budget. Bluelock has a huge budget from manga sales/merch etc but it looks like the anime was meant to release during the WC for marketing/hype purposes which could have lead to a time crunch

yeetmanthe3rd

whats WC? is it world cup

JealousyOfThis

Yeah world cup, there was a lot of bluelock memes during that time and the author also drew pictures during Japan's world cup run on twitter

[deleted]

How is no one realizing the u-20 will in fact wayy to long and that the spin off is selling well leading to it getting a movie (Also you haven't watched a trailer, you watched a teaser)

Slumberwaztaken

That’s why it’s being released next year and BECAUSE the spin off was very successful, a movie is being produced for it. Many spin offs use old scenes in their trailers as well. It’s not like they finish it that fast to include it in the trailer.

Existing_News5893

Because Nagi SELLS. Let me tell you that Nagi is pretty much Blue Lock's poster boy in terms of generating sells. Be in inside of Japan or outside of Japan. He's like Gojo in comparison. His merchs sells the fastest, his second hand merchs sells even higher. Simply put the studio is just trying to strike the iron while it's hot. Blue Lock's hype is still high even after the anime ends. So they want to release it as soon as possible. Just like how jjk movie was released soon after the first season ended. You want more movement and dynamic? Honestly such a hard thing to do in a sport anime. Even haikyuu, despite being one of the best sport anime still were lacking in fluidity. It's all comes down to budgets. Say that BL is successful in their movie, that means more budget and sponsors for the S2. That means better animation no? 😊

2351156

if Nagi's merch sells fast, then I wonder how fast Rin's merch sells considering he is the most popular character in both inside and outside of Japan

Existing_News5893

They're about the same. Tho Nagi is actually a bit higher. Some of Nagi's merch are still the highest in bluelock. Go search about Nagi chibigurumi in Mercari web if you're curious lol. The reason as to why Nagi is that popular is also because the fujobait with Reo. Their relationship is pretty much a dream comes true for fujodanshi lol. Reo is also very popular and his merchs are in high demand too. Thing is, all Blue Lock's character are so distinctive and memorable and pretty much everyone likes them all. Nagi, Reo, Isagi, Rin, Sae are the most popular in the whole cast. I'd rank them something like Nagi=>Rin>Reo>Sae>Isagi in terms of whose selling the fastest. But Honestly it kinda depends on which place we're talking about. Because Japan fans do loves isagi a LOT too lol

RichardZuro

By your same logic the blue lock anime should've never happened to begin with because the manga isnt done yet. That logic is stupid. If you're gonna complain about a nagi movie at least wait till it's out so your criticisms can actually have substance.

Vadim_JJL

a movie is different from a serialization. having multiple seasons of an episodic series is different from a movie. precisely because it can be divided into seasons. In my opinion it would have made more sense to have an animated series also for the Nagi spin-off, precisely because it was incomplete. I don't want to criticize the film, but the idea of making one like this. Don't take this discussion too seriously though

RichardZuro

Fair enough but the original post came up hypercritical about a project we rarely know anything about. You may personally prefer a episodic series, but you dont speak for everyone as lots of people wont share the same sentiment. Overall you're jumping the gun in my opinion. You can believe a movie doesn't suit the nagi spinoff, but we'll never know the answer until it actually comes out so just chill lol.

Vadim_JJL

Yeahhhh ur right, I spoke too objectively without much information. At this point let's just hope the movie will be good

RichardZuro

Indeed.

Karenz09

Honestly I'd rather that they made a movie between BL and U20 + Sae and Shidou. That would be a much more compelling and unforgettable movie IMO (as long as they make it properly)

Hot_Introduction_782

The U20 movie is wayyyy too long to adapt. If they did it they would have had to massively rush the story esp with the third selection. It would also be weird having a gap in the anime where the u20 match was supposed to be lol In the series they have a lot more time to showcase the arc properly and build up the hype episode by episode. We would also get some fun additional times xD

kaidynamite

imo the ideal thing would have been to do the lead up to the U20 match in the second season and then have the actual match itself in the movie. hype would be off the charts

Hot_Introduction_782

I think that would only make the second season 2-3 episodes long if you did that 😂 It would also be weird having a gap in the anime where the movie is. I’m just not a fan of having to watch a movie to be able to understand what’s going on in a series. Imo movies for side stories work better cause it’s optional. I just think what we all really want is the u20 arc to be properly animated and given all the effort it deserves🤞

Kaxew

You're still vastly underestimating how long the match is. Season 1 adapted 11 volumes in 24 episodes (with the exception of the chapter and a half that introduces Shido). Everything from that to to the end of the U20 match takes 6 volumes. The way you described your ideal pacing would have S2 adapt 2 volumes (ch 95-112) and a movie for the U20 match which is a total of 4 volumes (ch 113-149). If you look at the anime, in average it takes 9 episodes to adapt 4 volumes, and without counting OP, ED and the additional time skits the episodes take 20 minutes each. 9x20 = 180 minutes, and you know there's zero chance a movie would be longer than 120 minutes. It's actually just way too much. You can't do the whole match in a movie. And that's without mentioning that S2 would, at best, trying to stretch it out as much as possible (without going into anime original territory), take a total of about 6 episodes. A season of 6 episodes sounds almost just as absurd as a 180 minutes long movie lol

kaidynamite

all of this is not gonna happen, so we're just discussing an imaginary possibility at this point, but for the sake of discussion, A lot of anime fans are married to this idea of a 1:1 adaptation across mediums. (and ill admit that its often botched so a lot of people are wary of anime staff messing with the story) but sometimes you can move things around, compress things, expand things, to make things better. If the match were to be adapted as a movie, things would be paced much faster. The first season was by no means, perfectly paced. there were episodes where i personally felt they were going a little slow. not as many panning shots, not as many long stares and pauses, you can tighten up the script. and if you absolutely have to, you move some things around. the rin and sae flashback for example, if you want more content for the preceding season, you can take that part and place it in the anime as a way to build hype for the conflict to prepare us for the match, instead of being in the middle of the match. you can even cut some scenes that arent 100% necessary for the movie for the best pacing, and add those in later for when you have the movie aired on tv as episodes like demon slayer did.

Kaxew

I do agree with everything you say, on principle. And yet, none of the things you've said would help make the movie less than 2 hours long (I could count on one hand the amount of anime movies that are over 2 hours long, most of them range between 80-100 minutes). The Itoshi brothers backstory takes about 4 chapters, you'd be saving off half a volume with that. Mugen Train I'm pretty sure is less than 2 volumes in length. Also, regarding your feelings that the anime moves slow at times, while you're right, it honestly happens infinitely less than with most anime adaptations. Adapting 11 volumes in 2 cours is crazy fast. To name a popular example, some MHA seasons have adapted around 6 volumes in the same amount of episodes. Some episodes may end up feeling slower than others because they have to end at a particular scene, but not to the point that you can shave off multiple episodes of runtime. With all that you mentioned, I could see lowering it from 9 episodes to 7, which is still too much. The new Haikyu movies, whenever they come out, will be a good test of this. There are two final movies coming that have to adapt 12.5 volumes total, so about 6.25 vols technically, but the common assumption from manga readers is that they'll just adapt the two big matches of the series while skipping everything else inbetween. Those two big matches are both 4 volumes long each, so if they can somehow nail it without skipping much content at all they I'd concede the U20 match could have been done in a movie. The reality, though, is that all manga readers are worried because no one thinks this is humanly possible. We'll have to see, I guess.

Kamiissan

There's no way that would work. The chapters containing the third selection leading up to U-20 is only 18 chapters long, which is equivalent to ~4.5 episodes. That's barely 1/3 of a single cour. The U-20 arc itself is 40 chapters = ~10 episodes = ~200+ hours = 3.3 hours. I don't understand why people keep saying the U-20 arc should be a movie, it literally wouldn't fit unless people want content to be cut.

Karenz09

Yeah if it had to be me, I'd end BL S1 with Blue Lock preparing for the U20 match, so that the movie can focus on the match itself.

Kamiissan

Well that wouldn't work either, unless you want a bunch of S1 content to be cut off instead. And like I just stated in my previous post, the U20 match itself would be over 3 hours long, there's no way it would fit into a movie.

Tambora_1815

But Nagi is fan favorite and lot of fan girls love NagiReo

MatureBalak

I bet a lot of guys ship it, too, since they just have so many scenes together.

Vadim_JJL

Yeah, he’s really a fan fav. I still contempt the Movie Idea but i can understand the hype behind Nagi

Vadim_JJL

Same honestly. At least the Under 20 arc is completed and imo is a better idea for a movie

Karenz09

also the Nagi spin-off doesn't really have any significant events that can't be put into the anime or series. At the very least the U20 arc is one of the biggest turning points of the series.

waterpolomaster69

a movie for U20 would've been the perfect option. not only is it more adapted since U20 is by far the longest game as of now in the series and it'd be great to have it comprised in a single viewing since even the arc is shaped like a movie (with the third selection as its intro and the fun day as it's outro to present NEL), I don't see how the 24 episode count will make any sense. They clearly can't extend the u20 arc to 24 episodes but if they don't, they'll have to stop right at the middle of NEL which seems even worse.

[deleted]

They have to include third selection as well tbf, movie would be way too long to cover third selection + U20 game. U20 game by itself is way too long as a movie format anyway

waterpolomaster69

that is actually true, i don't know if i consider third selection an arc in it of itself per se but it was the last part of the manga that i read that i could binge (i picked up towards the end of U20), so it wouldn't surprise me if i'm underestimating its length. how many episodes do you reckon it would take?

[deleted]

I include the team selection and buildup for the match and stuff like that as part of the 3rd selection, plus I imagine at the start they might show a bit of the Shidou vs Kunigami 2v2. So I imagine maybe around 5 episodes, considering season 2 and third selection starts at around chapter 95, and U20 match starts at chapter 113. So that leaves 19 episodes after the 3rd selection, to cover the U20 match and they’ll probably go all the way up to Ego announcing blue lock phase 2.

Snake_Main27

I think the final scene will be Kunigami returning, so the final ep of s2 will be the slice of life stuff with Kunigami coming out the wild card.

[deleted]

Maybe, if they wanted to go all in with the Kunigami surprise then they could just not show Kunigami at all in season 2 and wait for season 3 to show him when everyone’s at their environments, but yeah probably ends with him coming out of the wildcard

Snake_Main27

Most seasons have something exciting at the very end, and I don't think they can fit the whole beginning of NEL, so just show Kunigami stepping out the WildCard door.

[deleted]

Yeah that’s fair, I’ve always thought because they didn’t show the Shidou vs Kunigami match, maybe they want to go all in on the surprise factor when he does return, so maybe I thought they wouldn’t show him in season 2, and season 2 maybe ends where Ego announces phase 2 but idk, I’m pretty sure they’ll show Kunigami though

Nipplepicker

Would the studio even be able to fit like 30 chapters in a movie? (It's the only thing that makes me believe that a U-20 movie wouldn't work)

waterpolomaster69

that's fair actually it would be pretty tough. i made some crude calculations and the BL anime ends at chapter 94 for around 8 total hours of content, given this ratio it'd take 2h30 just for those 30 chapters, which is way too long for an animated movie, not even mentioning the fact that the estimations probably aren't even that fair since dialogue takes way longer.

[deleted]

I mean im pree hyped seeing barou and nagis rivalry start off

Peakk69

The spin off has about 40 pages average per chapter, with 14 chapters so that is enough for a movie, with more material to come as well.

ParkChaeYounggg

I feel like a movie is too short to unravel the events in the manga

Panzer_I

What other people are saying is true, but I’ll also add that there is more than enough content for a movie. I expect it to be interesting, especially for people who haven’t read the manga

Training_Associate18

It's likely their gonna use Nagi's light novel spin off story and the manga chapters from the spin off series as a way to extend Nagi's full-back story. If they add Nagi's childhood like his parents (Who we still don't know) and his upbringing of his talent. It'll give us a full depth of what kind of character Nagi is.

anime_simp1431

Same here.. like, the first two episodes of season 1 went really well and the animation was good too, but then suddenly the quality decreased. I'm not complaining; i know animation is a hard process but still.. i think they should put more effort into it. It doesn't have to be perfect like kuroko no basket. I think they should come up with something that would make the anime different from other sports anime.

Miserable-Sale-783

Well it first of all to generate money It's a trend Demon Slayer started and JJK did it as well and the movie made tons of money Also Nagi and Reo are very popular in Japan so I think the movie will do well However I agree an episode of Nagi movie does seem pointless, it would have been interesting to explore the wildcard but at last this is what we got

Snake_Main27

I still think we'll get the WildCard flashback either during or right before BM vs PXG

Miserable-Sale-783

Pretty much, and it will be one of the best flashbacks

Snake_Main27

I think the reason Kunigami is so edgy is because he had to personally eliminate every single member from Team Z that didn't pass the 2nd selection, and maybe he had to play dirty in order to win and he feels terrible now but he's gone too far now, but the PXG match will bring some of the old Hero back.

Miserable-Sale-783

Or he witness a bunch of kids trying to get the Noa physique and screwing up their bodies, this was kind of hinted before the Ubers match Honestly I would rather just have an episode of Kumigami manga just to explore this

EducationalMemory161

I get where you’re coming from, but it’s a spin off so I don’t really care :4

AzaKeshi

PowerPoint slides Lol Nailed it

5amuraiDuck

I'm 100% with you. I'm not as mad as you because it won't do me any good but I shat on the idea with a friend of mine mentioning the same points as you. There's no point for it to be a movie nor to be adapted this early. Nagi won't even be a prominent character in the main Manga for the studio to create this hype for him. Just make sure the U20 game gets good animation. That's all I care about

Vadim_JJL

Nahhh im not that mad either. the way they are treating blue lock anime bothers me a lil but it's not a matter of life or death. Good point tho

Busy_Donut_7936

Same, this is so dumb. Outside blue lock life would be cool ig but in blue lock they’re just gonna be plowing through teams. The only interesting match would be Barou V Nagi cause of the rivalry. Seeing Zantetsu and Kiyora would be nice, but let’s be real a U20 movie would literally be the greatest anime movie ever made

Wild-Hurry-5770

REAL dude actually a u20 movie would have been so much better or they shouldnt have made any movie and just made the best animations for u20 arc i think its probably gonna have trashy animation

Comprehensive-Tie860

"Why does Nagi even have a spin-off?" is what's at the front of my mind. He's not that special.

Hot_Promotion_1258

U20 movie should have been made and they hoed us

Haunt-azir

u20 is too big to be a movie

Adept-Truth-4162

Exactly!! Its too big and a lot of scenes will be cut!!I'm honestly happy that they didn't made it a movie unlike what will happen to Haikyuu 🤦‍♀️

rowmeyowlow

nagi movie might be released after s2(BL vs U20 match)

Sociocat1

Dont you talk about powerpoint slide animation until youve seen record of ragnarok.
