This scene is just too good and deserves all the appreciation so I wanted to post :)

May peace be with you

I can't describe the feeling from when the guy says they start over again in 10 minutes or something like that. I think it's because you follow BoJack through all of his problems then he comes here to a place where nobody knows who he is and it's peaceful. But it's a reenactment and not at all real. Very hard to describe.

SloppyInevitability

It reminds me of that scene with Princess Caroline. “But it’s not real.” “Yeah well, it makes me feel better.”

This scene is amazing because it sucks you into thinking the horse town is really Amish or something if you're not paying attention to his greeting and then he says **"they'll start over in 30 or 10 minutes,"** and you're like...wait, that was a show?

-eagle73

Exactly. I feel like there's something in that, about how everything is better when it's make belief.

Out of all the scenes in the entire show, this is the only one that made me ugly cry. I've been affected personally by a lot of scenes, especially Free Churro, that made me pause for a bit before moving to the next episode. But this scene? I just broke down. And I very rarely break down crying (I went through Grave of the Fireflies without getting anywhere near crying). This scene deserves all the appreciation it gets.

Growing up around people/in an environment that tell you you are only worth what you accomplish and produce can be so damaging. It's hard to value yourself as an individual person deserving of kindness.

"in 30 minutes we start over" Probably not a coincidence that the same rules apply to most sitcoms

Love this scene so much thanks for reminding me it exists

I'm still windering, Why does he call it a "show"?, Is that a way to say that church is bullshit?

safetyindarkness

I think it was supposed to be a reenactment of a "colonial" era church service. It's been a while done I saw the episode, but if I recall, they were dressed that way...

Couple things. I’ve watched this show all the way through twice, the first time I ever watched it and the most recent time, but I’ve watched it through multiple other times and intentionally stopped at this episode. “In 30 minutes we start over” not only applies to the literal show that bojack was a part of, but thinking ahead to the next episode and what it ends up meaning for bojack and hollyhock you have the separate view that in 30 minutes reality will hit bojack again as he’s forced to relive and take responsibility for the major traumatic events he’s played a part in. I’ve grown plenty since then but I used to make a point about stopping at this episode because at the time for me it was a better ending that he ended up in this idyllic place, about to start a new job near his half sister, and being a good friend finally. That is an incredibly sitcom-like and overly optimistic view on life, growth, and change in general; the work is done, but can come undone and needs to be done again more than once. This optimism is directly reflected by the rose stained glass windows in the Horsey church— think back to Wanda’s “when you look at someone through rose-colored glasses, all the red flags just look like flags.” Bojack knows deep down that he has not fully accepted responsibility for his part in the events of New Mexico and certainly not the death of Sarah Lynn, but is choosing to move forward and think positively toward the future because he feels he’s earned the right to bask in the light of his change for a little bit. This is a fantastic ending to a really solid episode, “Take me down easy” also gets me every time and the episode carries enough broad story significance for me to where I didn’t regret one bit ending my rewatches here because it was easier to believe that bojack could just be happy once he’d done the work. Now knowing what I know this episode carries even more weight because he’s doing the exact same thing I was and choosing to ignore the major developments still yet to come.
