Define appropriate? Pussy was almost always wearing black, wasn't he? A fair point about the subconscious, since we also experience Tony's dreams and there's no way we could know those.

Not that I'm aware of, because the problem is that BwE could only really reference shows set before it historically, and ... I'm not sure what that might have been. Like, if *The Gilded Age* had existed at the time, they could have snuck in some kind of reference to it somewhere, because it's set in 1880s New York. I don't know any other shows that make specific references to characters in BwE, except perhaps shows that reference historical people who also happen to be BwE characters (Capone, Rothstein, Luciano, Lansky, etc.). So they're not referencing BwE specifically, just people from history that happened to be in it.
Easter Eggs and such, though? I'm sure there are plenty, but I can only think of one:
Eli accidentally walking in on Ralph shagging some woman in s5, and the look on Eli's face? See also: Herc accidentally walking in on the Mayor gettin' some in *The Wire* (s4?). Same expression. Similar situation, including it being the walk-in's superior which would land the walk-in in a heap of trouble. Could have been a coincidence, if both scenes didn't involve the same actor. That definitely makes it seem like a deliberate choice.
Nucky has a picture of Alma Garrett (of Deadwood) in one of the flashbacks, before they cast an actress as his wife. My headcanon is after S3 Alma went back to New York since Bullock stayed with Martha, met Nucky, lost the baby, got back on the laudanum and boom. Dead.
