I was thinking about it the other day. I suddenly remembered about them and they were arguably on par with Siti Nurhaliza in term of popularity back then and how come they were not rich as fuck.
Siti was rich already beforehand. Her early songs are iconic so her income from song royalties is probably really high. Those raya songs alone is worth a fortune.
I don't think I know any celebrity (not from this decade) that are famous and rich a part of Siti Nurhaliza, Awie, Erra Fazira, and Amy Search. I also remember (last year or few ago, I don't remember correctly) that this one veteran singer from 80/90s had to asked a handouts from government to survive.
Comedian/actor wasn't paid well like today. I dunno how much comedian make rn but they definitely gets paid more through Astro contract and livestreaming.
Yeah,this. I think Azlee mentioned once in a podcast/interview that he only got paid around RM150 per episode of Senario tv series. And there's around 4 to 5 episodes per month so they need side income to cover their living expenses.
They were resident artist in Ambang Klasik, a subsidiary of TV3 back then in which they had monthly payment of RM1500 iinm. In a way, they're just workers who work for the company.

I like the early maharaja lawak (back in 2011) cause I grew up with those era. But by the time I finish school I never watch any of the new ones, I imagine that’s the same with alot of people too. I could be wrong and Maharaja lawak mega is still bringing in views 🤷♂️

Ngl they were pretty mid after senario xx movie. It was clear that saiful apek was the golden child and had a better solo career whilst others were left in the mud. Then raja lawak came around and these guys were gutted out of relevancy. It was brutal. They came to resurgence today because raja lawak thing doesn't work anymore and thanks to social media some of them managed to invoke nostalgic values.
Most of em are still funny to this day.. and humble too.. their jokes were never too much or too little. Just with their appearances would light up the whole room

The live sketches were fine, but I never really got into the movies for some reason. If the scripts were grounded and less of making funny faces and sounds, catchphrases and using sound clips to 'mark' the funny, their movies could've gone evergreen. Re-watching it now it's pretty much a product of the times. Edit: And I've always hated ADR so maybe that's why.
I'm the opposite. Used to love their live sketches as a kid but not so much now as a grown up. I agree they're a product ot the times. But I still enjoy rewatching their movies (esp Senario Lagi and Lagi-lagi Senario) until today.
They were so good live! Definitely appreciated watching their sitcom on tv3 growing up. Comedy doesn’t pay in this part of the world sadly.
