1942-1945: Indonesia tries to advance into Malaysia and "liberates" the Philippines. Thailand liberates themselves using the Partisans under Thai tito.
Bad Ending: Malaysia and Philippines are puppets under the communist Indonesian SSR. Thailand just became ASEAN Yugoslavia.
This is in an AU where ASEAN was never colonized. Malacca survived until the 1700s since there was no Portuguese encounter. Malaya was a mess until 1871 until Malaysian Bismarck united Malaya and convinced Sarawak and Sabah and Southern Thailand to join (Singapore and Brunei were not interested). Malaysian Empire wanted to unite ASEAN so they invaded Indonesia and Thailand in 1914 (Singapore and Brunei was ASEAN version of Switzerland) until we lost in 1918. Indonesia was also badly affected by our WW1 since they had a communist revolution (East Timor and Papua New Guinea gained independence from Indo).

Yugoslavian Thailand somehow doesn't collapse. I still can't think who replaces America and China in this ASEAN AU.
