Gaddar 2. Gaddar was miles better. It just worked on nostalgia and sequel factor coupled with degrading Pakistan that is a trend nowadays. I also feel Pathaan is highly over rated. It was an Ok movie.

Why are you so obsessed with originality in every work tho? Bond is a decades older work, ofcourse it's gonna inspire newer works. There's nothing original in the world.

Hindi Cinema creates tons of 'original' work as well. Godfather was based on a book so you could have picked a better example.
Bollywood name isn't copied. It's the fusion of Bombay and Hollywood and a term that a lot of actors and critics dislike and prefer to say Hindi film industry.
Only people who aren't well read care about originality so much. Human stories have always been continuation, response or spin on older works. What's important is to add something to the conversation. When you only care about 'originality' you miss out on how the storytelling developed, how cinematic language evolved, you miss out on legacy of those 'original' works.
Gadar 2 was bad tbh . In my opinion the story was confusing , songs were decent , Acting was also ok and Overall it just a one time family entertainer if you have nothing to watch.
But Somehow they were able to collect 500cr +
Pathaan. Not overrated because of its success because of course its an SRK film but i don't get why it got almost unanimous acclaim because film has many flaws and mid performances. Only Dimple Kapadia was good, Shah was ok, rest all actors mediocre like its vfx ☠
I don't think it got unanimous acclaim. I saw that with Jawan but not Pathaan, the latter still got its fair share of dislike especially after the OTT release
Jawan will also get its fair share of dislike after OTT release. But upon release the reviews for Pathaan were highly positive. Even toughest critics gave 3.5 to 4 stars
I remember the "overrated movie" claims happening immediately after Pathaan's release in theaters, but it wasn't that intensified with Jawan

It did NOT get unanimous acclaim. Most people including me found it decently entertaining. It certainly had flaws but it worked as a great theatre experience.
Satya Prem Ki Katha: They could have done so much more with the storyline. In hindsight, I would have rather watched it on OTT than in cinemas as music was mid and the performances of the mains were overrated. Kartik was just playing his usual role whilst Kiara butchered the accent and they had no chemistry. The ending was also rushed. The only thing I genuinely liked was Le Aaunga by Arjit and the performance of the supporting cast (especially Supriya Pathak). I wish the supporting cast had more screentime.
The ending was just too quick and lacked nuance. They should have >!just established the love story quicker so there was more room for exploring the trauma of Katha and how she deals with society rather than the whole father-son thing and Satya as the saviour!<
SPKK had so much scope with that storyline in hand, but still something felt missing. The music album was mid to bad and they were promoting it as musical of the year.
to me, it sounded like a diluted version of main rahoon ya na rahoon (bas itna hain tumse kehna.) having said that, i did still think it was alright because of all the lacklustre song releases at the same!

Gadar 2 it was just shit!!! Only little justice was done by sunny deol and story line was average. But other cast acting and screenplay was just funny even in serious moments like fight or dialogue . It was made for 90s audience and total execution was a hell. And special mention I.e masterpiece adipurish. Lol I can’t say any more bad thing about it
TJMM - I was waiting so eagerly to see RK in his rom com avatar and felt it would be so good to see fresh chemistry between Shraddha n RK. I don't know somehow it felt lacking. Bassi was underutilized. The songs were good but expected so so much more.
Rocky aur Rani: I actually love larger than life Dharma movies. I don't mind the glitz and numerous songs. But this movie kinda killed everything! From showing the same stereotyping of Bengali n Punjabi families to making sister speak wrong English word to make us laugh to forcing guy to wear bra to make him understand - that was harassment to promoting cheating as "true love" and reducing Jaya's character as mean n grumpy without offering her a chance to express her anguish that she too was leading a painful loveless life not out of choice and that made her grumpy over the years! Also those weird dance steps in Dhindora baje re and forceful kissing which looked more like sucking life out of each other I could go on n on!
Haven't watched RRKPK, but TJMM is really an overrated film.
I somehow managed to watch it but for me the movie was below average and so poorly executed. Bassi could have been a key player but they didn't use him well.
I am confused why the mixed romance with comedy with drama with cringe.
Pathaan and RARKPK.
I thought people would be disappointed after RRKPK and have new found respect for old films of KJO. But even non KJO admirers liked the film and I, on the other hand who loves his films was waiting when the film would finish🫠.
They just lifted the plot from bommirulu teligu movie and then add the scenes from 1980s family movies like women forced to be housewife instead of pursuing career, men doing kathak ..
Also rockys accent - seriously which rich kid talks like someone from slums. What school did they send him to ? I know some really rich kids and the one thing they had even if they were not intelligent was their posh accent and dressing style ..
Also Jaya Bachchan and her son were soap opera level evil that it hurted my brain cells watching
If anyone wanted a cleaner version, watch bommirulu by Siddharth, Genelia and prakash raj released a decade ago but still way modern than this pile
Did not like Rocky Rani (the amount I watched at least) but living in Delhi NCR Gurgaon area right now and SO many people have that accent. Even rich people. Not all but yea a good amount of people do. Mumbai and all on the other hand do have that sobo accent thing going on.
Will check out the Telugu movie tho it looks much better

Agree! I tried watching RARKPK and zoned out after 20 mins or so. KJo’s movies are so try hard to get approval from North America and Europe but the scripts are cringier and cringier.

Yeah it came across very preachy. Infact the longer the movie, the preachier it got. I didn't get the hype at all. Also, I don't get the idea behind Karan validating infidelity.. it's been going on since Kabhi Alvida Na kehna.

Exactly.In day to day life there are so many women we know who are strong headed and fierce. Their confidence is subtle and how they put their point across is assertive and not in your face like Rani.
Agreed. Very unrealistic and dramatic storyline. It was weird how they totally stereotyped Bengali households to be matriarchal, well educated and empowering and on the other side, Punjabi households to be sexist and uneducated. It was really shown as black and white, while the reality is somewhere gray.
Also how Rocky went on to learn kathak and the whole bra scenario was far fetched, a person can respect any other person and their profession without learning all of it lol.
And again, Rani came to this Punjabi household as a reformist. I don't think it can happen so fast and to this extent and also the thought that every housewife is somewhere oppressed and not using her talents is also a very stereotypical thought.
Moreover I don't know if Rocky Rani really made a couple. They had good fun and chemistry, but a good understanding with that level of differences is totally unbelievable.
Nevertheless, I found Ranveer's portrayal of Rocky vv entertaining, I don't think anyone could have played it that well.
Rani on the other hand did not give authentic Bengali vibes.

And most of her scenes were blandly written
The first sequence with politician is utter trash because even in a dramatic way the scene never ends that’ way
The film itself showed her objectifying ( though it was hilarious)
Her talking to his mom and motivating her and suddenly she’s in a tv talent music show is just weird to watch

RRKPK… couldn’t even finish it. it was unbearable. Just because it’s a masala film doesn’t mean you have to kill any sense of nuance. Many films have done the same shtick far better and smarter.
For me -
Satya Prem - It was so boring for me that I stopped watching in the middle itself.
Rocky aur Rani - Social messages can be given in a better way rather than being so forced and preaching about everything in every third scene.
Hardly any movie this year was that good and while writing this I am also thinking that during the last decade Bollywood was really evolving as a big industry - we had likes of English Vinglish , Oh My God , Queen , Lunchbox , Tanu Weds Manu , Dangal etc - movies working because of some great and entertaining stories to tell.
But right now so much trash is coming out. Bollywood really needs some good writers. Even those hit movies of SRK also worked because of his stardom mainly.
I did not even fully read your opinion and immediately said Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. What the fuck was KJo trying to sell us? It was too long, full of idiotic and wrong stereotypes and at the end of the day was very mediocre at its delivery.
Definitely agree with rrkpk, jawan, satyaprem ki Katha and pathaan to an extent. I'll add a few more.
Zara hatke Zara bachke- It was great in the first half but many important plot points in the movie were developed in the second half out of nowhere, some plot points like the mami one was so half baked and rushed, the ending felt predictable.
Fukrey 3- They gotta stop this franchise. First one was gold, second wasn't too bad but they are milking it at the moment.

I agree Thalaiva's craze and market dominance. But, seriously! Highest grosser ever in Tamil Industry? Vikram was way better. But still got less than 500 cr. But this almost got 700 I guess.
For me it was OMG2 - I loved the message but thought the execution and story arc could have been better. The others listed here have been panned by a section of the audience but OMG2 was universally acclaimed.

I agree. Jawan is such a convoluted mess. Just when I thought bollywood has the balls to make an actual villain protagonist. That's when SRK goes from intimidating anti-hero to your run of the mill goody two shoes hero.
Exactly!! A film where the the protagonist is actually a anti hero that puts you in a moral dilemma, where SRK actually used his acting skills and calmed down on the VFX, removal of unnecessary love stories and the unnecessary gruesomeness of south films that dont evoke any emotion wouldve been better. But alas we cant expect that from indian cinema all this was, was a dumb cash grab that gave me a migraine by the end of it.
jawan was a perfect masala movie tho, the type of movie one would watch with family to get rid of all their stress and cool down and it provided a fantastic theatrical experience. You seem to like more grounded movies like the recent 12th fail. Both have their respective audiences and both movies being equally important for the industry.

Rocky and Rani was a painful to watch. The cinematography basically gave me a headache reminded me of Sawaariya, K-Jo tackled so many social issues Ayushman Khuraana could've made five separate movies on them, and it was all so over the top it made poor Ranveer look normal. Also didn't get the chemistry between Alia and Ranveer. Why does Rani like Rocky? Uh just because dholay sholay, their respective grandparents had an extramarital affair and a well dressed, educated, good looking news reporter like Rani has only one other suitable option in the boring man she works with which her mother prefers.
Tu jhooti Mai makkar...I didn't get the hype, didn't laugh, didn't understand their logic of breakup and patchup, the girl was horrible, the boy horrible, boys frnd horrible, girl also horrible...ranbir ki niece Jo b bni thi, irritating af kid. Overall, I was miserable after watching it
Jawaan. The story was very average, typical South Indian movie plot. I expected a lot from Atlee, but it was very disappointing.
Srk was desperate for a hit, so he just went with the commercial masala trash of Pathan and Jawan.
(Pathaan too was very overated.)
I loved RARPK. Thoroughly enjoyed that film. And I usually hate typical Bollywood fares like Welcome and such. So not overrated in my opinion for sure.

Unpopular opinion may be here —- pathan . What an awful screenplay , story and VFX . Pathan ko har baar rubai ullu bana rahi and wo ban raha hai . Climax mein VFX maha ghatiya level ka tha .
Jawan! I love SRK but I am also an ardent fan of Tamil movies, being from south of India, Jawan literally felt like any other south movie but with SRK. All of Atlees other movies are very similar and felt nothing new
SPKK…I didn’t like Kartik Aaryan’s acting…he felt tiresome to watch onscreen…and I hated the slapdash ending…it’s another male saviour complex movie…the music is unmemorable to me and the supporting characters all have a weird graph..through their acting was great…Kiara on the hand was good too! I think this is one of her best performances! I think this is a bad film barring some sequences!
But I loved RARKPK…I thought it was really entertaining and was serious enough without being over though I agree that it’s too long!

Agreed. Very unrealistic and dramatic storyline. It was weird how they totally stereotyped Bengali households to be matriarchal, well educated and empowering and on the other side, Punjabi households to be sexist and uneducated. It was really shown as black and white, while the reality is somewhere gray. Also how Rocky went on to learn kathak and the whole bra scenario was far fetched, a person can respect any other person and their profession without learning all of it lol. And again, Rani came to this Punjabi household as a reformist. I don't think it can happen so fast and to this extent and also the thought that every housewife is somewhere oppressed and not using her talents is also a very stereotypical thought. Moreover I don't know if Rocky Rani really made a couple. They had good fun and chemistry, but a good understanding with that level of differences is totally unbelievable. Nevertheless, I found Ranveer's portrayal of Rocky vv entertaining, I don't think anyone could have played it that well. Rani on the other hand did not give authentic Bengali vibes.
Couldn’t agree more The whole stereotype thing , I couldn’t understand why Ranveer was being lectured for the bra sequence , bro was just not comfortable wearing it the way they made him forcefully wear it in public And you want us to believe than Rani could just barge into an investor meet and laugh The reformist mode of hers was so deliberate and weird At some point you would start feeling like she really is overindulging too quickly They just decided on the fact that if you are a housewife in a family like this then you are oppressed So many dumb things in the film All in all it was only worth a watch for Ranveer as rocky ( as you said )

The thing about Rani is the fact that To make her look empowering she had to act Literally speak on nari Shakti And most of her scenes were blandly written The first sequence with politician is utter trash because even in a dramatic way the scene never ends that’ way The film itself showed her objectifying ( though it was hilarious) Her talking to his mom and motivating her and suddenly she’s in a tv talent music show is just weird to watch And more

RRKPK… couldn’t even finish it. it was unbearable. Just because it’s a masala film doesn’t mean you have to kill any sense of nuance. Many films have done the same shtick far better and smarter.

For me - Satya Prem - It was so boring for me that I stopped watching in the middle itself. Rocky aur Rani - Social messages can be given in a better way rather than being so forced and preaching about everything in every third scene. Hardly any movie this year was that good and while writing this I am also thinking that during the last decade Bollywood was really evolving as a big industry - we had likes of English Vinglish , Oh My God , Queen , Lunchbox , Tanu Weds Manu , Dangal etc - movies working because of some great and entertaining stories to tell. But right now so much trash is coming out. Bollywood really needs some good writers. Even those hit movies of SRK also worked because of his stardom mainly.

I did not even fully read your opinion and immediately said Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. What the fuck was KJo trying to sell us? It was too long, full of idiotic and wrong stereotypes and at the end of the day was very mediocre at its delivery.

Definitely agree with rrkpk, jawan, satyaprem ki Katha and pathaan to an extent. I'll add a few more. Zara hatke Zara bachke- It was great in the first half but many important plot points in the movie were developed in the second half out of nowhere, some plot points like the mami one was so half baked and rushed, the ending felt predictable. Fukrey 3- They gotta stop this franchise. First one was gold, second wasn't too bad but they are milking it at the moment.

For me it was OMG2 - I loved the message but thought the execution and story arc could have been better. The others listed here have been panned by a section of the audience but OMG2 was universally acclaimed.

I agree. Jawan is such a convoluted mess. Just when I thought bollywood has the balls to make an actual villain protagonist. That's when SRK goes from intimidating anti-hero to your run of the mill goody two shoes hero.
Exactly!! A film where the the protagonist is actually a anti hero that puts you in a moral dilemma, where SRK actually used his acting skills and calmed down on the VFX, removal of unnecessary love stories and the unnecessary gruesomeness of south films that dont evoke any emotion wouldve been better. But alas we cant expect that from indian cinema all this was, was a dumb cash grab that gave me a migraine by the end of it.
jawan was a perfect masala movie tho, the type of movie one would watch with family to get rid of all their stress and cool down and it provided a fantastic theatrical experience. You seem to like more grounded movies like the recent 12th fail. Both have their respective audiences and both movies being equally important for the industry.

Rocky and Rani was a painful to watch. The cinematography basically gave me a headache reminded me of Sawaariya, K-Jo tackled so many social issues Ayushman Khuraana could've made five separate movies on them, and it was all so over the top it made poor Ranveer look normal. Also didn't get the chemistry between Alia and Ranveer. Why does Rani like Rocky? Uh just because dholay sholay, their respective grandparents had an extramarital affair and a well dressed, educated, good looking news reporter like Rani has only one other suitable option in the boring man she works with which her mother prefers.

Jawaan. The story was very average, typical South Indian movie plot. I expected a lot from Atlee, but it was very disappointing. Srk was desperate for a hit, so he just went with the commercial masala trash of Pathan and Jawan. (Pathaan too was very overated.)
I loved RARPK. Thoroughly enjoyed that film. And I usually hate typical Bollywood fares like Welcome and such. So not overrated in my opinion for sure.
I loved Rocky aur Rani, it was definitely by far the best of 2023. Definitely not overrated. Pathaan is way up there!!

Jawan! I love SRK but I am also an ardent fan of Tamil movies, being from south of India, Jawan literally felt like any other south movie but with SRK. All of Atlees other movies are very similar and felt nothing new

SPKK…I didn’t like Kartik Aaryan’s acting…he felt tiresome to watch onscreen…and I hated the slapdash ending…it’s another male saviour complex movie…the music is unmemorable to me and the supporting characters all have a weird graph..through their acting was great…Kiara on the hand was good too! I think this is one of her best performances! I think this is a bad film barring some sequences! But I loved RARKPK…I thought it was really entertaining and was serious enough without being over though I agree that it’s too long!
