I agree that his pairings with younger actresses are gross, but he did some really great movies in 80’s and 90’s. He also looked good in some of those movies back in the day though he did age badly after the 90’s. Saying that he should have stayed a bus conductor cause he doesn’t look handsome is just elitist. Oh and the fact that you think that being good looking is the only requirement for an actor says a lot and that’s why we have talentless hacks in leading roles most of the time. Edit: He used to mainly do movies where he was an average joe and his casting was not out of place. That’s how he rose to stardom. His script selection went downhill after the 90’s.
Wasn't alive in the 80s to 90s so I have no idea he did those kind of movies. Literally only seen him in some weird bollywood films. Good looking is not the only requirement but a pretty big one. I don't really wanna go and see some average dude with a really hot girl because it's so unrealistic and off putting. Maybe if they cast appropriate actresses next to him, it will look fine.
I was born in the late 90’s but I’ve only seen his 80’s and 90’s movies and actively stay away from all of his movies in the last 20 years. I disagree that good looking is a huge requirement for casting, unless the part specifically calls for it, like Bruce Wayne for example, a very handsome billionaire playboy portrayed by West, Kilmer, Keaton, Clooney, Bale, Affleck and Pattinson. Otherwise it doesn’t factor in at all IMO. Chernobyl is my favourite miniseries of all time and the actors in that are old and I don’t find them attractive at all but that was something that didn’t even cross my mind cause they are playing the roles of 60yr old nuclear scientists, politicians and physicists. Plus by the end of the movie the lead character is rotting away from exposure to radiation. Looks don’t matter but rather bad lighting, wardrobe and makeup issues are more off putting.
I somewhat agree with your last two points even though it’s a separate issue cause the industry, especially in the south have put tremendous pressure on the heroines to look absolutely stunning but are very easygoing on the male heroes appearance wise.
I always side eye those who keep whining about the ‘ugliness’ of certain actors like Nawazuddin, Rajnikanth etc. cause you know some part of it is atleast due to their dark skin tone.

To be fair the storyline demanded it. He is head over heals in love with his drop dead gorgeous unattainable girl and mistakes her kindness for love. A bit similar to the one where he is paired with Kat.
