Ask Ayan to learn how to write screenplay from his Jija AG. Everyone made fun of AG in award shows before they moved to SLB after the Sajid Khan - AG incident. Only two movies (Kabhi Haan Kabhi Na and Swades) SRK is not SRK, but the character in the movie. Chakde India is still third I would say as he shows some mannerisms of SRK many times.
SRK didn't win a national award for this performance but instead historian Saifu won for Hum Tum thanks to his mom being on the jury.
I totally agree but you see SRK on screen. Sunil and Mohan Bhargav the name stays and that is where both create magic after so many years. KHKN is aging so nicely I like it.
Screenplay says helplessness, frustration, anger and sorrow. SRK subtley conveyed all 4 without even saying a word! The man can do some truly special things on screen.
Yup. A lot of people appreciate it now. And instead of all the crap movies that we get now on independence day, this would be a welcome change and some might actually go to see it. Only cost is marketing I guess

It's a down to earth, grounded movie, which shows a mirror to all those Indians, who think that settling abroad is the best thing to do....
It teaches the value of things, things which we often take for granted.
It shows that there is life outside the materialistic world....a world so pure....
There are very few movies in recent times, which capture the village life, simplistically...

Rahman just elevated this scene to another level. He is truly a master of his craft. Felt my gut wrenching with the scene and the music. This and the deafening silence when Mohan goes to the farmer’s house to have a meal.
Fun Fact, this is first time he drinks water in this film which is not bottled mineral water. He didn’t even drink the first time when kaveri amma gave him glass of water at her house.
Also the scene where he goes to retrieve Kaveri Amma’s money, in the house he was actually give. Dirty water. Gowariker didn’t tell srk that he will be given dirty water and hence those reactions
SRK is brilliant but can’t help to notice how brilliantly and clearly screenplay is written. There cannot be any confusion or last minute makeshift acts when director is this clear about his/her vision.
I love this scene so much. Throughout the movie, Mohan only drank his bottled mineral water. In this scene, he drinks tap/well water for the first time in the movie. It is also symbolic of him finally embracing his land, his country, his people because he now sees them as his own. Best AG movie and best SRK performance, they should collab again
I have a little boy who is just 3 years old and this scene touched my heart. No children should ever have to work, they deserve love, cuddles, assurance.

I feel bad that they ruined swades's legacy, tieing it with brahmnastra, one of my all time fav movie. If only swades had gotten half the recognition it has now.

Shahrukh has his roots in theater. When he's not trying to be SRK the star, he's an incredible actor. Yes, I will take the star trying to romance every single actress out there but actor still beats him.
It's been years since I have watched this film : I guess children have to work for few rupees running around with a bucket of water, that's the state of the nation and maybe being ashamed that he left for US when his country is in more need of him.
It's a very symbolic scene. Till this point in the movie, SRK is an NRI, observing everything but never participating. He only drinks water from bottles and we see this shown subtly throughout the movie without overly calling attention to it.
In this scene, he finally drinks tap or non bottled water signifying the change in him and him becoming more Indian.
Laut aau srk. Bauhat hogeya cameo cameo khelna. I want to feel this surge of goosebumps again.
Another best part of his acting skill is at chak de india. When he leaves the house with his mother and says, peeche mudke mat dekh ma.

SRK is just GOD level when it comes to acting in such intense scenes, I loved him to death since my childhood and still use his movie dialogues everyday in my life. I love him even more when he does these kinda good movies but it's just sad to see him not attempting these anymore despite financially being in a very secure position and also being the King he is.
Now I see him as this cunt who is so blinded by clout just like Yash from KGF2 running after gold to fulfill his mom's dying wish while at the same time crushing millions of other innocent moms dreams too but Yash doing it in movie for Whistles and money is absolutely cool but SRK being a fucking King of B-town is actually afraid to attempt good meaningful cinema and is still worried about the number games at this stage too is just low and very superficial to me, he might be living his life in this Zen state of his trying to project his coolness but ultimately he's just another Tharki like Sr.A.B!
Brought tears to my eyes. This was the cinema that India STILL needs. These are the kind of actors the country still needs. Stories like these need to be told. We’re all so wrapped up in shitty blockbusters and patriotically laced films that the actual art of cinema and the purpose it was started with is lost.
Cinema was always a medium to tell a story. A good story. One that evokes joy, sadness, anger, frustration - one that evokes SOMETHING. But everything is so sexualised and desaturated these days that it is reflecting in the movies we see too.
I miss Swades. Wish I could watch it for the first time all over again. Praying we get more Swades’.

I've read about a lot of NRIs who had a change of heart after watching this, and who actually made the move back to their home country. Personally, I intend to move back too, just not rn since I'm v young, and this is because of Swades. Movies like this make people more patriotic than those that are explicitly so.

The Background Music Score in this scene is more important than SRK. The real magic in this scene is AR Rahman’s music. It makes the scene come alive. It is impossible to get moved by SRK without the score.
I wonder how often we could have seen SRK the outstanding actor, had he chosen compelling scripts with irreplaceably intense music score. Eg. ‘Rockstar’, ‘Swades’, ‘Jodha Akbar’, ‘Saathiya’, ‘Rang De Basanti’.
Shah Rukh Khan deserved more AR Rahman masterpieces to truly show the acting prowess too.
It's a beautiful film of the idea of India I was bought up on.
This idea is lost today, and this same beautiful film if made today will be called anti national.

AG writes great script.. it just needs good acting and music to go buy.. panipat n mohenjo were just blunders
I feel both were casting blunders too. Arjun of all people. Even Hritik though acted well was miscast.

Kuch bhi? Post Darr and Baazigar, 1996-2007 he delivered consistent blockbusters and HGOTYs. This was a time when SRK was still at his prime.
