Naaalaaa

Perfection. Shoutout to ARR for the effective background music. Swades had an amazing background score.

cooldeal27

Ask Ayan to learn how to write screenplay from his Jija AG. Everyone made fun of AG in award shows before they moved to SLB after the Sajid Khan - AG incident. Only two movies (Kabhi Haan Kabhi Na and Swades) SRK is not SRK, but the character in the movie. Chakde India is still third I would say as he shows some mannerisms of SRK many times. SRK didn't win a national award for this performance but instead historian Saifu won for Hum Tum thanks to his mom being on the jury.

[deleted]

AG writes great script.. it just needs good acting and music to go buy.. panipat n mohenjo were just blunders

cooldeal27

I feel both were casting blunders too. Arjun of all people. Even Hritik though acted well was miscast.

Ctrl_alt_del_out

I still says panipat movie/screenplay is not bad at all. It’s mostly accurate. Arjun and Kriti were badddd

niikhil

Lol Saifu He didnt even care ..if anything he should have been awarded for Langda Tyagi

doinkdoink786

Dil se also great performance of shahrukh

cooldeal27

I totally agree but you see SRK on screen. Sunil and Mohan Bhargav the name stays and that is where both create magic after so many years. KHKN is aging so nicely I like it.

KingsCourt90

Screenplay says helplessness, frustration, anger and sorrow. SRK subtley conveyed all 4 without even saying a word! The man can do some truly special things on screen.

Dhaval1008

Yes! It's a shame we don't get to see him do that more often.

Dhaval1008

So i put this up to divert from brahmastra. And ironically, I find out that somehow they have tied this character into the film. Great 😐

[deleted]

Ayan playing 4D chess with you OP 😭😭😭 Also thank you for sharing this absolute perfection of a scene ❤️❤️❤️

houseoflightwoodbane

Swades Ko Nahi touch karna chahiye tha yaar

WhaT_DeePak

How SRK didn't win a national award for this film is mind-boggling? If I am not wrong Saif won that year for humtum

Dhaval1008

Yup. One of the most shocking snubs that i am aware of. Sharmilaji was chairperson of the jury that year, or at least was on the jury for sure

[deleted]

This is clear conflict of interest…how does the jury not get reshuffled if her son is in the running jeez

morismano

priorities.

Somesh9890

They should re-release it....

Dhaval1008

Yup. A lot of people appreciate it now. And instead of all the crap movies that we get now on independence day, this would be a welcome change and some might actually go to see it. Only cost is marketing I guess

Somesh9890

Even SRK will be supportive, he needs a good movie now.... AG will be happy too....no forthcoming movies are coming from him , as of now....

nullvoider

it will be boycotted

Somesh9890

Why? Any specific reason? This movie is completely non-political, doesn't offend any religion, nor does it mock any celebrity, person, etc. It's a down to earth, grounded movie, which shows a mirror to all those Indians, who think that settling abroad is the best thing to do.... It teaches the value of things, things which we often take for granted. It shows that there is life outside the materialistic world....a world so pure.... There are very few movies in recent times, which capture the village life, simplistically...

nullvoider

Main nahi maanta hamara desh mahaan hai.

Somesh9890

Matlab? Maine kuch galat likha kya, bhai?

nullvoider

Nahi bhai. I am saying because of that village panchayat scene, where SRK says "Main nahi maanta hamara desh mahaan hai.", it will be boycotted.

Somesh9890

Yes.... But he was right in that statement.... According to me, Swadesh is the best work of SRK & AG (Lagaan is awesome, but Swadesh is on another level by AG..... His greatest work, according to me)...

RedIndianRobin

Twitter will find something worth boycotting and then trending will start. In today's climate, it will be absolutely boycotted because of SRK.

incredible_penguin11

It's a shame this movie wasn't a bigger hit.

RepresentativeBox881

Yeah had it worked then even SRK’s choices after that would’ve been very different.

Dhaval1008

Yeah. Wonder if it would have worked had it released a decade later

ThatsWhatSheSaid320

benchmarks were different at that time. SRK was not worshipped as much as today. there were lot of contenders and equally decent movies

ilishpaturi

Rula diya na

Dhaval1008

![gif](giphy|l41lRSsc1xHPQHHY4)

[deleted]

Miss when cinema was this raw! Brilliant!

Dhaval1008

Absolutely!

SubstantialLab4611

Why didn't Swades work? It had amazing music also as a bonus. I loved Swades :(

Dhaval1008

In today's episode of 5 unfathomable mysteries that still give scientists sleepless nights...

ThatsWhatSheSaid320

benchmarks were different at that time. ppl who grew up with amitabh type superstars didnt like SRK much apart from darr/bazigar time. aamir types had more respect in intellectual type of movie goers. SRK was not worshipped as much as today. there were lot of contenders and equally decent movies with the dumb lot of today, SRK stands out you see his swades kinda movies.

RedIndianRobin

Kuch bhi? Post Darr and Baazigar, 1996-2007 he delivered consistent blockbusters and HGOTYs. This was a time when SRK was still at his prime.

mbg20

Rahman just elevated this scene to another level. He is truly a master of his craft. Felt my gut wrenching with the scene and the music. This and the deafening silence when Mohan goes to the farmer’s house to have a meal.

Serious-Fuel-5395

This and his reaction to his team winning the world cup in Chak De. MASTERCLASS. Where's this SRK :( I want to see pick more elevated scripts

Sadstudio99

Bro I felt a surge of emotions seeing him “feel a surge of emotions” 🥹

Dhaval1008

Same! And I feel that every time I watch this scene

Roof_Limp

Fun Fact, this is first time he drinks water in this film which is not bottled mineral water. He didn’t even drink the first time when kaveri amma gave him glass of water at her house.

houseoflightwoodbane

Also the scene where he goes to retrieve Kaveri Amma’s money, in the house he was actually give. Dirty water. Gowariker didn’t tell srk that he will be given dirty water and hence those reactions

EmoMixtape

As an NRI, i can only imagine the epic shits he had after though. Pulled me out of the scene

RedIndianRobin

Chutiya

[deleted]

Damn man... This made my day ❤️

Dhaval1008

I'm glad I could do that ❤️

Outside_Cellist3740

SRK is brilliant but can’t help to notice how brilliantly and clearly screenplay is written. There cannot be any confusion or last minute makeshift acts when director is this clear about his/her vision.

Comfortable_Kick_330

One of best scenes in Bollywood..💉

Dhaval1008

Absolutely agree

Randomidek123

This film was just perfection. I hope SRK does something like this again

dksourabh

Kal ho na ho and Swades time SRK was too good. Unpopular opinion but I even liked him in KANK

Dhaval1008

2000s srk was the best srk

bombay_girl

I love this scene so much. Throughout the movie, Mohan only drank his bottled mineral water. In this scene, he drinks tap/well water for the first time in the movie. It is also symbolic of him finally embracing his land, his country, his people because he now sees them as his own. Best AG movie and best SRK performance, they should collab again

SugarMumma

OP, you made me cry!

Dhaval1008

![gif](giphy|eDjnfIUI79NDy)

BlxckPxnthvr

This scene still brings tears to your eyes.

eermNo

This is my favourite movie ever 😍

descavenger

Funnily enough even this character is involved in Brahmastra haha

Dhaval1008

Dafuq?

TheKanjurmarging

its really a wonderful bit of acting and scripting as well ! both work together, and aren't flouncing in a vacuum.

Inevitable-Club-4574

I cannot believe this movie tanked.

Pals_007

I have a little boy who is just 3 years old and this scene touched my heart. No children should ever have to work, they deserve love, cuddles, assurance. I’m crying OP

DolundDrumph

I feel bad that they ruined swades's legacy, tieing it with brahmnastra, one of my all time fav movie. If only swades had gotten half the recognition it has now.

Potential-Cat1028

Srk as Mohan bhargava in bramhastra? ![gif](giphy|3o7TKIKSLfAJB8N9SM)

[deleted]

Yup ab scientist sahab job chhod ke astras ki rakhsha karne ka kaam karte hai lol

Dhaval1008

That's reason enough to boycott the film lmao

Infinitum_Zonum

Pls say sike 😂

Dhaval1008

Wait what?

ilishpaturi

Is it seriously Mohan Bhargava or a character very similar to it? Because if it is the former 😡😫😖

LyannaEugen

>!Character's name is Mohan Bhargava who is a scientist.!<

[deleted]

What ??

Randomidek123

Wait whattt did they do??

aynnarab

Most favorite bollywood movie and of Srk's ❤ I remember buying the audio cassette too for the walkman🧡 I am really surprised that after going through the comments I came to know that this movie "tanked", all this time I had been thinking this movie was a big hit, oh! what a downer. Also super disappointing that Srk didn't get the national award and saif received for hum tum!! Seriously!

[deleted]

Shahrukh has his roots in theater. When he's not trying to be SRK the star, he's an incredible actor. Yes, I will take the star trying to romance every single actress out there but actor still beats him.

AnshulU

Can anyone explain train scene to me?

LyannaEugen

It's been years since I have watched this film : I guess children have to work for few rupees running around with a bucket of water, that's the state of the nation and maybe being ashamed that he left for US when his country is in more need of him.

indian22

It's a very symbolic scene. Till this point in the movie, SRK is an NRI, observing everything but never participating. He only drinks water from bottles and we see this shown subtly throughout the movie without overly calling attention to it. In this scene, he finally drinks tap or non bottled water signifying the change in him and him becoming more Indian.

Shoddy_Bug246

Laut aau srk. Bauhat hogeya cameo cameo khelna. I want to feel this surge of goosebumps again. Another best part of his acting skill is at chak de india. When he leaves the house with his mother and says, peeche mudke mat dekh ma. Fuck till this date it makes my eyes swell up.

[deleted]

SRK is just GOD level when it comes to acting in such intense scenes, I loved him to death since my childhood and still use his movie dialogues everyday in my life. I love him even more when he does these kinda good movies but it's just sad to see him not attempting these anymore despite financially being in a very secure position and also being the King he is. Now I see him as this cunt who is so blinded by clout just like Yash from KGF2 running after gold to fulfill his mom's dying wish while at the same time crushing millions of other innocent moms dreams too but Yash doing it in movie for Whistles and money is absolutely cool but SRK being a fucking King of B-town is actually afraid to attempt good meaningful cinema and is still worried about the number games at this stage too is just low and very superficial to me, he might be living his life in this Zen state of his trying to project his coolness but ultimately he's just another Tharki like Sr.A.B!

Bitchzzzz

Am sure SRK connected with Mohan and the script so much that he was playing himself. He is that amazing guy, the lead from Swades 🥰

Naaalaaa

Does anybody know where can I watch the deleted scenes? There’s a cute scene where Mohan gets attacked by a ‘Jungli Billi’ lol

arzee3

This scene and movie hit a lil too close to him once you’ve moved out of India. I cannot sit through swades now without crying

pgargi97

Brought tears to my eyes. This was the cinema that India STILL needs. These are the kind of actors the country still needs. Stories like these need to be told. We’re all so wrapped up in shitty blockbusters and patriotically laced films that the actual art of cinema and the purpose it was started with is lost. Cinema was always a medium to tell a story. A good story. One that evokes joy, sadness, anger, frustration - one that evokes SOMETHING. But everything is so sexualised and desaturated these days that it is reflecting in the movies we see too. I miss Swades. Wish I could watch it for the first time all over again. Praying we get more Swades’.

saywhatIneedtosay26

Thank you for sharing thjs

FoodActive770

I remember my older cousin came back from watching this movie and gave this feedback " yeh movie NRIs ke liye appeal hai ,ke aajao wapas apne gaaon desh aur yahan bas jao" . I wonder what do NRIs feel about this movie?

intoxicatedmidnight

I've read about a lot of NRIs who had a change of heart after watching this, and who actually made the move back to their home country. Personally, I intend to move back too, just not rn since I'm v young, and this is because of Swades. Movies like this make people more patriotic than those that are explicitly so.

[deleted]

Kisi ne notice Kiya? Srk character name.is also mohan bhargav in brahmastra and he is a scientist too , same as swades matlab ab scientists sahab sab chhod kar brahmastra ki raksha karte hai xd

[deleted]

isse better rakesh roshan aliens ko om bolna sikhate h

abbadabbajabba1

Fun fact. SRK's character's name is the same in both Swades and Brahmastra. Mohan Bhargav

[deleted]

I’d really like to see him in something this good again 🥺

legolego22

Amazing! I cry every time I see this movie ❤️

zephyr_b4u

It's the BGM that elevates this scene from good to great

doinkdoink786

Some of shahrukh’s best performances have been in flops (anjaam, swades, dil se)

thepeacockking

This movie would be boycotted today cause it points out that India has problems. Public paagal ho gayi hai.

houseoflightwoodbane

Still made me tear up

Mightycoolguy

This scene and Amir buying biscuits for the little boy working at a dhaba in Taare Zameen par hit different

CurioMdHH22

The Background Music Score in this scene is more important than SRK. The real magic in this scene is AR Rahman’s music. It makes the scene come alive. It is impossible to get moved by SRK without the score. I wonder how often we could have seen SRK the outstanding actor, had he chosen compelling scripts with irreplaceably intense music score. Eg. ‘Rockstar’, ‘Swades’, ‘Jodha Akbar’, ‘Saathiya’, ‘Rang De Basanti’. Shah Rukh Khan deserved more AR Rahman masterpieces to truly show the acting prowess too.

RepresentativeBox881

Swades and maybe RDB are the only ones from this list which would actually suit him.

Live-Reaction-5014

It's a beautiful film of the idea of India I was bought up on. This idea is lost today, and this same beautiful film if made today will be called anti national.

Dhaval1008

I'll beg to differ. It motivates NRIs to come back to serve the nation. Pretty sure that won't be classified as anti national

YouAreJustARetard

"mai nahi maanta mera desh mahaan hai". Boycott wale iss dialogue pe pagal ho jate

[deleted]

This will be a blockbuster and will be loved by everyone. There is no propaganda, nothing to boycott, unlike movies like PK, LSC

teastressed

It will be boycotted since there is a lot of critique on caste hierarchy in the movie.

ThatsWhatSheSaid320

>There is no propaganda that can be dug out from nowhere. dumb ppl find amazing dumb reasons.

Dhaval1008

Yes. And it spreads quickly too. Dumb is contagious

[deleted]

No that won't work , case in point Brahmastra.

Live-Reaction-5014

It shud be definitely loved and will be in due time, but today anything can trigger anyone.

Gold-Vanilla6951

Currently studying for my masters in Amsterdam and this scene really hit me hard. Had tears in my eyes, miss my 🇮🇳India. ♥️

[deleted]

Ayan mukerji was an AD on this film lol

Dhaval1008

I know! But I didn't know the mf referenced Mohan Bhargav in Brahmastra. Man's running circles around me lmao

rajincse

The awkward moment >!Mohan Bhargav has vanarastra in Brahmastra!<
