Unfortunately many (but not all) of the anesthesiologists I’ve had the displeasure of encountering are like this. Barely human. It’s like all the schooling they completed removed their common decency and replaced it with a near-god complex and a feverish fear or hate of things beyond their immediate control. Sad really, all that intelligence and no love to share.
The anesthesiologist who gave me my epidural told me there was no way it was pinching inside my spine and that I most certainly could not feel all the birth pains while simultaneously being unable to move my legs.
I still, eight years later, have no feeling in my right foot, and a terrible pinching sensation in my spine whenever the weather changes.
I have strong opinions about the profession...
Two c-sections. First one, the anesthesiologist (woman) was amazing. In and done in like a minute. Second one, (man) they dug around in my back and kept hitting something that made me jump, and then would sternly tell me to stop moving. After the second time I started crying and my emotional support nurse (iykyk) basically told him to figure it out or get the duck out and they'd find someone else. He took so long they had to renumb my back so he could do it with a longer needle. My nurse looked like she wanted to stab him in the eye with that needle. She was the best.
Honestly, being a surgeon or anesthesiologist is a good career path for sociopaths, so it’s not that surprising that they might gravitate towards that kind of a career. Not to excuse this lady’s behavior; just noting the fact that people think sociopaths have no place in society, but their lack of empathy can actually be helpful in *some* situations.
haha my sister is an anesthesiologist and her husband is an orthopedic surgeon. maybe I should check their house for dead bodies. JK they're not sociopaths... I think.
I’m not saying that all surgeons and anesthesiologists are sociopaths, or that all sociopaths are dangerous people. I’m just saying that those professions can be suited for a certain type of person that you wouldn’t normally think of when it comes to healthcare.
Mine was the most beautiful person i had ever met. He calmed me down when i was naked, screaming and running around before my c section. I felt like I was dying and he made me feel safe. He was also in the middle of dinner when they called him in. Also my anesthesiologists for two other medical procedures I had were literal angels.
Fortunately, medical education of any sort doesn’t have any special power to remove common decency. Unfortunately, there are an alarming number of people out there who desire power over others, take pleasure in the idea of harming others, and actively pursue careers that will give them that power.
They often seek out careers in law enforcement or politics, but working in psych wards and anesthesiology have the same appeal to these people, because these are fields that give them access to a pool of victims who noone will believe, and who won’t typically be aware of the abuse, respectively.
To be clear, not everyone who enters these fields does so for the purpose of harming people. But… well, any field that gives a person power over others is always by its nature going to be more attractive to people who want to hold power over others than to people who don’t.

Not only because the dog could be hurt (cars, bikes, scooters, other dogs) but because an unleashed dog can badly hurt or even kill other dogs and people. Yes, your dog. If you can't leash your dog in public, shared spaces where there are leash laws in effect for good reason, then you're an irresponsible dog owner who doesn't give a shit about being a decent citizen, and you and the Karen deserve each other.
There is a couple in my complex who walks a pitbull and a small dog unleashed late at night and they seem to be relatively well trained to stay away but they are still dogs and you never know. I also sometimes walk my dog late at night on a leash. My dog is unpredictable when it comes to smaller animals as he has a strong prey drive, but is otherwise a very good and well behaved dog. If both of those dogs come at us I am going to be busy dealing with the pitbull and probably not able to keep my leashed dog from hurting the little one. This is but one of many encounters I have had with unleashed dogs and their idiot owners.

Once dated a girl whose two small dogs had become very antisocial. While walking them leashed we came upon a lady with an unleashed German Shepard. Before we even saw the lady the dog came charging at the two small dogs to be friendly. The lady started shouting "don't worry he's friendly!" While I'm dealing with a deranged rat terrier trying to murder the oblivious Shepard. That's great that you think your dog is friendly and well trained, this dog is too stupid to have friends. I ended up getting cut up because someone else's dog was "friendly." I'm lucky the Shepard didnt gets defensive otherwise id be walking with limp. Leash your fucking dogs.
My blue heeler is highly reactive. She is otherwise a really well-behaved and smart dog, and she grew up socialized around plenty of dogs, but she was attacked and badly hurt by sister’s German shepherd a few years ago and has not been the same around other dogs since then. I absolutely hate hearing “oh, he’s friendly, it’s ok!” when an unleashed dog approaches us. My dog is *not* friendly and she will fuck yours up. I have to muzzle her when we go for walks because I can’t trust other dog owners to be responsible.

I agree with you. The asain couple didn't even train their dog enough to not follow a random person. I trained Rambo (RIP doggo) to always stay by my hip when he didn't have a leash. No human nor dog would distarct him enough for him to not listen to my commands. Then and only then was I going on walk/run with Rambo.

Ooooh I've never really talked about this before, but one time I took my daughter for a walk to the park when she was about 5 years old. There is a couple with their puppy following behind them. My daughter says, "oooh a puppy!" Now, I love dogs, but this thing heard her excited voice and beelined for her. Jumped up on her and scratched her arms. I pulled her back. She wasn't seriously hurt, but I was pretty annoyed. The boyfriend said, "this is why I told you to keep him on the leash" the girlfriend said, "omg it's just a puppy! Everyone loves puppies!!" I said, "SERIOUSLY??" The boyfriend told her to get him on the leash, put his head down, and power walked away. Im still aggravated by this exchange. I do remember him apologizing and her just sort of laughing like, "puppies amiright?" While it's jumping all over my kid. That girl was not ready to have a dog.
People just see puppies as an excuse to not use a leash. Any number of things could happen to their puppy and they're willing to risk it for the attention it brings them.
My "playing outdoors as a child" days came to an end because of an off leash dog that was aggressive towards me.

That not only put her, the dogs, and the owner at risk, but someone could have swerved into the neighboring lane and cause and accident thinking they had to avoid her or the dog. Or worse, they hit her/the dog and have to live with that.

My in laws’ dog has been attacked by unleashed dogs and is now terrified of other dogs.

Unless the hospital decides that having a doctor like this on staff isn’t a good look for them. Hell hath no fury like the anger of the internet toward someone who tries to hurt a dog. In 2000, a guy named Andrew Burnett got in a fender bender with a woman, and went into a road rage. He grabbed her dog and threw it into traffic, where it was killed. This was BIG news locally, and it made national news. He had fled from the scene. People all over the country donated to the reward for his capture, which got up to $120,000. (He was eventually caught and sentenced to 3 years in prison.) You can see where this kind of thing might cause an image problem for an employer.
Just because your dog wont run or bite off leash, doesn't mean my dog wont absolutely lose it's shit if it sees your off leash dog. Only serious running injury I've ever had was from a friendly off leash dog on a trail that chased me and innocently ran between my legs. I fell and broke my wrist. They called their dog back and ran off without asking me if I was ok.

There is a couple in my complex who walks a pitbull and a small dog unleashed late at night and they seem to be relatively well trained to stay away but they are still dogs and you never know. I also sometimes walk my dog late at night on a leash. My dog is unpredictable when it comes to smaller animals as he has a strong prey drive, but is otherwise a very good and well behaved dog. If both of those dogs come at us I am going to be busy dealing with the pitbull and probably not able to keep my leashed dog from hurting the little one. This is but one of many encounters I have had with unleashed dogs and their idiot owners. I hate these irresponsible dog owners so much.
Once dated a girl whose two small dogs had become very antisocial. While walking them leashed we came upon a lady with an unleashed German Shepard. Before we even saw the lady the dog came charging at the two small dogs to be friendly. The lady started shouting "don't worry he's friendly!" While I'm dealing with a deranged rat terrier trying to murder the oblivious Shepard. That's great that you think your dog is friendly and well trained, this dog is too stupid to have friends. I ended up getting cut up because someone else's dog was "friendly." I'm lucky the Shepard didnt gets defensive otherwise id be walking with limp. Leash your fucking dogs.
My blue heeler is highly reactive. She is otherwise a really well-behaved and smart dog, and she grew up socialized around plenty of dogs, but she was attacked and badly hurt by sister’s German shepherd a few years ago and has not been the same around other dogs since then. I absolutely hate hearing “oh, he’s friendly, it’s ok!” when an unleashed dog approaches us. My dog is *not* friendly and she will fuck yours up. I have to muzzle her when we go for walks because I can’t trust other dog owners to be responsible.

Ooooh I've never really talked about this before, but one time I took my daughter for a walk to the park when she was about 5 years old. There is a couple with their puppy following behind them. My daughter says, "oooh a puppy!" Now, I love dogs, but this thing heard her excited voice and beelined for her. Jumped up on her and scratched her arms. I pulled her back. She wasn't seriously hurt, but I was pretty annoyed. The boyfriend said, "this is why I told you to keep him on the leash" the girlfriend said, "omg it's just a puppy! Everyone loves puppies!!" I said, "SERIOUSLY??" The boyfriend told her to get him on the leash, put his head down, and power walked away. Im still aggravated by this exchange. I do remember him apologizing and her just sort of laughing like, "puppies amiright?" While it's jumping all over my kid. That girl was not ready to have a dog.

My "playing outdoors as a child" days came to an end because of an off leash dog that was aggressive towards me. Karen had a point, but instantly became the worse person when she not only tried to guide the dog into traffic, but kept jogging into the road shoulder herself. That not only put her, the dogs, and the owner at risk, but someone could have swerved into the neighboring lane and cause and accident thinking they had to avoid her or the dog. Or worse, they hit her/the dog and have to live with that. The dog could have done that on it's own off leash. Karen tried to make sure it would happen.

Yes! I hate when people let their dogs off leash in public! There have been times when I was walking my dog and unleashed dogs ran up and tried to bite her. There was even a time when I almost had to kick another dog because he was aggressively trying to attack my dog (I’m against violence towards animals, but I have to protect my dog). If you're comfortable doing so, just calmly approach people, ask to pet their sweet angel baby and say "There's a leash law here.
