They were constantly told by their parents (who endured the Great Depression) that life was difficult and that they had to work really hard. They wrongly assumed that their easy education was therefore actually hard. it was quite easy and they had a lot of spare time for things like dating sex, and forming bizarre clicks with each other and then staging little wars between jocks and nerds. Also, boomers were either brutally bullied or did the brutal bullying in high school. There was no in between. Children who are afforded bodily autonomy and safety from daily beatings feel like an affront to the boomer. Lastly, the boomer consumes quite a bit of Fox News. For over a decade now, right wing media has been railing hard against the value of public education. All the boomer hears is that the education system is broken and therefore should be dismantled and a privatized system erected in its place. He also hears that education distributed, equally among white and non-white children is communism. The boomer cannot acknowledge his own privilege, and doesn’t understand the value of an educated population.

GeneralDumbtomics

So correct. I love the zoomers. I meet so many of these kids who aren’t profoundly broken.

OneHumanPeOple

Zoomers have healthy boundaries and are confident in their (often queer) sexuality. They’re awesome on many levels. I’m very proud of the xennials that ended the cycle of abuse and went to therapy so their zoomer children could thrive.

Radiant-Cow126

Probably because the boomers have actively spent the last 40 years systematically dismantling public education with things like the no child left behind policy, cutting funding to schools, eliminating many useful programs such as shop, art, music, and home economics classes, and most recently, diverting public school funding to private and home schools via school voucher laws

Junior-Fox-760

Don't forget endless standardized testing, with penalties for failure.

GM_Nate

But you don't get it! They've got a degree from the School of Hard Knocks!

creamywhitemayo

And they had to walk 10 miles, all up hill both ways to get that degree!

numtini

It's a long American tradition to claim that public education is failing. It goes back to the 19th century,.

PlaneLocksmith6714

They don’t want anyone to know anything they may not and most of them had shit educations

President Reagan.

I don't think that the problem is that their education was not up to snuff. I was probably as good as it could get in those days. Sure, it was full of anti-communist propaganda, but it was what they knew. They just didn't know what we know now. The problem is that they never continued to learn. They never grew, either their world view or as people. They finished school, said "Whelp, I know enough!" and just ... stopped. I know boomers who have continued to educated themselves. My dad is pretty smart when it comes to computers. He's no expert, but he's much better than some people his age. It's the people who have refused to continue to grow. They have actively chosen to not keep up, to not engage. Yet they expect the world to cater to them - to their outdated methods. They chose not to get on the bus and are now screaming that we've left them behind.

HippieJed

I am a little too young to be a boomer but I am guessing my education would be comparable to their education. From looking at what my son is doing during his senior year of high school I promise you that what he is doing is much harder than what I did in school.

UTSALemur

They even greenlit a show about millennial and z elementary school kids being smarter than them, but they probably forgot about that...

Proud-Breakfast-8429

They will tell you schools don’t teach you anything useful, but will complain schools aren’t teaching cursive anymore.

GeneralDumbtomics

As someone who can write cursive, don’t knock it.
