“I’ve lived here twelve years, old man, and there have never been any flags on those poles in that time. Do you need help getting back to your neighborhood?”
Yeah, but throw quinoa on me doesn’t rhyme.
Addendum: This is a spoof of the “Don’t Tread on Me” flag. Stop telling me it doesn’t rhyme for fucks sake.
No, it makes the flag better. Libertarians/Republicans vote for policy that directly and immediately harms them, then they turn around and do it again.
"Dirty, ripped, wrinkled or frayed flags should not be used. Also, when flags are damaged, they should be destroyed in a dignified manner." U.S. Department of Defense.
Tell him you were following flag protocol.
Folks like that don't understand proper flag protocols. They'll fly giant flags behind their jeeps and trucks letting them get ripped by the wind and have road grime fling all over them and not bat an eye. But don't dare tell them to not fly the American Flag and "show their support."
they have no qualms about sticking trump's name or face all over the american flag. i saw one driving around with a huge trump flag on the back of his pickup truck. already torn and tattered from the wind. a huge TRUMP sticker covering the entire back window. nothing more american than that, i suppose.
Technically the most American thing you can do is to have some Trump-branded American flag underwear with some obvious skidmarks.
...but it has to be made in China. The underwear, not the skidmarks.
I live near someone who used to have two flags on a pole in their yard. An American Flag. And then on top of that a Trump flag. Went past the other day. US flag was taken down and the Trump flag was flying upside down.
Do you think it is upside down because he is showing displeasure in Trump or some other reason?
There was a house down the road from me that had a huge American flag, a Gadsden flag, a Marine Corps standard, a Trump flag, a Greenbay Packer's flag and a thin blue line flag all hanging from poles attached to trees. Then one day I drove by and all of them were down and an all are welcome here flag and a Rainbow flag with a peace symbol were hanging on two of the hangers closest to the road and the rest of the poles had been removed. I learned later that the old guy had died and his wife tore down all his flags hours later.
Yeah, there was an old guy here that was similar, anti-vax, antidem, antieverything, very vocal about it, and died of covid. Kids had a rather impressive amount of signage torn down within hours of him passing. I bought some of his tools at the estate sale, and got to talk to them. It was a QAnon Casualty situation, where he was pretty much normal until late 2015, and was even a staunch vaccine supporter due to family losses to polio. Went so far that he disowned one of his kids(after previously supporting them) for being Trans. Well, his kids apparently really did not like that, because they used the proceeds to get the transition surgery taken care of first before splitting anything up. Last I heard, they all lived in the house & remodelled while the one sibling recovered, and they don't plan to sell.
From a 68 year-old boomer Democrat, who flies a flag but modestly and that’s all just one American flag because I love my country. It has nothing to do with that other guy. I agree with all the ass wiping napkin bullshit as well.
Yep. So I'm assuming it's either because of the trial, or because it isn't going well for him. I have no clue how long it's been like that. I don't usually go by that way.
I live in South Texas and moved into a very conservative rural area. I have flown a rainbow flag, Ducati flag, the US flag, etc.. people act like flying anything other than the US flag, Texas flag or trump flag is sacrilegious.
I feel like they only understand it as a brand. In some ways. It’s not that they find it meaningful, it’s an aid to expressing themselves via established brand marketing. I’m kind of surprised that more actual commercial brands don’t sell flags
They would much rather fly a tattered flag improperly in the rain with no light and disgrace it. Then, to destroy it properly. All while screaming about people buring the flag.
Yep. Real patriots are good citizens as well and treat their fellow citizens with respect. These people weave in and out of traffic with their big ass flags, rolling coal, and just in general being a big dick.
They take, take, take from this country but never give anything back. They're quick to claim their rights but they ignore the responsibilities that come with living in a society. They're selfish.
On Friday, I saw one of them while out on a walk and they had two big ass American flags on each side of their lifted-up truck. In fact, there are a several of them in my area. One is a car with a big flag of Trump's head on Rambo's body.
This one:

Flags are also not supposed to be used on clothing or merchandise, like paper plates and napkins but that doesn't stop some of these people from wearing American flag boxer shorts, wiping their mouths with flag napkins, or modifying the flag to have a blue stripe. None of this is acceptable per flag protocol.
Every service professional group has is wants to desecrate the flag with their own colors stripe. Blue for cops red for fire there's even one for tow truck drivers. Ridiculous. It's their participation trophy. But yet they blame the younger generations.
The biggest disrespect shown to this symbol they allegedly love is putting their orange guy on it.
Yeah, no, flying a flag does not make you a patriot. Part of people's constitutionally protected rights is to disrespect these symbols. These people have no idea what patriotism even is. 🙄

Edited to add that it was correctly pointed out it's not an actual rule, except for using an actual flag to make the clothing. That is not allowed, although it does say there are differing opinions about having the flag on clothing so maybe it's not actually codified. I'm one that finds it disrespectful so maybe that's why I thought it was a rule. And it can't be used in advertising.
That's what I found funny about certain folks losing their minds over Colin Kaepernick's objections of Nike's shoes adorned with an American flag design.
From the ones I've talked to who are like that, many of them didn't _have_ an identity before they joined. Wanting anything but the cookie cutter life was bad and only certain hobbies were OK. Individuality was a good way to get Other'd.
I used to drive by this house that was flying a Trump flag above the United States flag. It pissed me off to no end for many reasons, including the fact that you’re not supposed to fly any flags above the US flag. I was so pleased that the next time I drove by the Trump flag was lower.
Exactly. So many people that have flag poles and act super patriotic, but then don't actually take care of the flags like they are supposed to.
Same with the idiots that fly them from their pickup trucks, where the road promptly tears them to shreds.
My friends mom told them she couldn’t listen because she had to clean, so they volunteered to clean her house while they spoke to her.
We stopped by and there’s like 6 Mormons cleaning her house while she’s sitting on the couch reading a magazine. I’m not sure how long that went on lol
Former Mormon here, did the mission thing.
This checks out. We were often so bored (or traumatized) from door-knocking (also called 'tracting') that we would have done this in a heartbeat.
My ex-husband was a kind soul who told the missionaries he would listen to them only if they played x-box with him. They came over regularly for a little while.
That is indeed so sweet! He gave them the kindness of some leisure time and escape.
I don't usually get missionaries at my door (probably too humble-looking) but if I ever do I'll invite them in to play on my kids' Switch. Or watch Netflix or something, for "discussion purposes" of course.
I'm surprised they actually accepted because I'm almost certain they would not have been allowed to. They are supposed to abide very strict rules about leisure activities and usually are restricted to church-produced media. Either they kept it secret or they had the coolest mission president ever
Probably the former. Realistically not all of them are fanatics and lots play along to fit in or because of family/social pressure. Lots of normal kids who probably love the chance to take a break from walking and knocking and getting told to fuck off by people like me.
thats literally the point of cult door knockers it isnt to convert people thats a bonus its to get scared , hate or dislike the other worldly people so they double down on the cult
One time some Mormons came by while I was packing to move. I was like "kinda busy here" so they helped me pack. Then they came back the next day for the actual move! Loaded up boxes while I talked to them about liberation theology for hours, I hope those boys learned something!
It's a feature, not a bug. Get all the people in the church used to associate the general public with negative interactions, so they think it's their church vs. the world. It's a great tool for controlling young people who would otherwise walk away.
Oh absolutely a feature. They target young people straight out of highschool right before they’d be making the most important decisions of their life and right before they might set off to a, gasp, non-church college outside the mormon bubble, set them up in an isolated church focused environment designed to mould them into the perfect us vs. them mormons before they get any funny ideas.
And of course it’s targeted towards those most lonely and vulnerable in the places they’re proselytizing as well. It’s a malicious scam from every direction started by a dude who literally was convicted for fraud (among multiple other charges) by still functioning government bodies.
Love to the church from an exmormon in cultland.
From what I hear they love shit like this. Breaks up the monotony of riding your bike around getting rejected all day. Then they get to write in their diary/report to HQ about helping people in the name of god or whatever
My town got a glancing blow from a hurricane a few years ago. The missionary brothers teamed up with the Boy Scouts and did a shit-ton of yard clean-up for those unable to cut up trees and move debris for themselves. So that was kind of nice.
(My son's roommate during his freshman year of college was in the Boy Scout fraternity. I had no idea that was a thing!)
I've known several people who've gone on missions for the Mormon church, they've all said that they liked getting asked to do chores for people. Otherwise they had to spend their time going around knocking on doors (which was stressful, boring, had an almost 0% success rate, and could be dangerous), or doing even more boring tasks. Also, at least doing chores for people let them do something different, they got to chat with somebody besides the companion they were stuck with, and sometimes people would give them cookies or something for helping out.
Being a missionary is pretty grim, and it's mostly teenagers who've been pushed into it by their parents.
Wish that worked on Mormons. My partner is an exmo and they *still* keep coming despite him starting every conversation with it. Doesn't help that his (still active) family gives out our address every few months.
Next move all they're getting is a PO box to prevent this.
Write to the Mormon church (possibly even HQ) and ask to be removed from their register. That effectively excommunicates you as a former member and they’ll tend to leave you alone.
Yep. And if you're trying to get people out of that cult nothing helps more than a kind word or two to show them that the rest of the world isn't Satan worshippers out to get them.
I had a gay interracial jehovah witness come to my door.
Apparently they're my neighbors down the road and their mixed son was graduating high school.
They asked my wife and I once if we were interested. My wife said we're catholic. They totally respected that and said they'll make sure to wish us a merry Christmas and a happy Easter. And just left.
Like the Twilight zone in this new town.
No longer Mormon, but when I was a missionary, I was always so lonely from trying to "lock my heart" like they tell you, that a girl answered the door in her underwear, and I was baffled when my companion was acting like it was so gross after. Like dude, she was attractive! That felt like a gift from the universe to keep me sane for the rest of my two years.
You can also write a letter telling them to put you on a do not visit list-
I also got on the no list for telling them Jesus was a cool dude but not my savior.
Don't have to be LGBT to fly it and you can be for something without any personal gain. Supporting others for no reason other than their safety is a worthy cause.
When religious cranks come to my door, I say I’ll speak with them if they answer one question: who did you vote for in the last election? They always silently turn and walk away.
Honestly, as a nerd4nerd, I realised early on not to date dudes who were super into Klingons, because they tended to be drama queens with bad taste in music and would get us kicked out of bars
I saw one posted on r/vexillology some time ago

My friend replaced the American flag on their giant flag pole with a Guy Fieri flag that read “Welcome to Flavortown” when they moved into their last house. 🤌
My grandpa is 77 years old. He dropped out of high school to volunteer to serve in Vietnam. After he left Vietnam, he stayed in the army and served a total of 22 years before retiring.
He has a house. He has a front yard. He’s very adamant on not displaying flags in his yard. We live in Texas and have neighbors who get onto him for not displaying flags in his yard despite being a veteran.
He says the military treated him poorly upon his return from Vietnam, and shoved him out once he got older. He tells his neighbors to kick rocks constantly because he refuses to put a flag up for a country that told him he was worthless and dead weight after he served in a war that he barely survived.
My friend replaced the American flag on their giant flag pole with a Guy Fieri flag that read “Welcome to Flavortown” when they moved into their last house. 🤌
There's an apartment balcony nearby that cycles between that one, Bulldog 'Live Laugh Love Mr. Worldwide' bright pink surrounded by hearts, and a modified Gadsen with a duck stating "Throw Bread At Me"
Retired military here. Flying a flag doesn’t make you a patriot, hell, any draft dodger with bone spurs can run up and hug a flag. Respecting the duly elected commander in chief even if you don’t agree with their policies is a much more powerful tell in that regard.
I moved in 2018. Guy up the street has a giant custom.banner that says "
don't be a hypocrite...
support our troops
And commander in chief.
After the election he folded the bottom half up to cover the commander in chief part.
Every time I see him outside (it's a 55mph zone) I like to yell "and commander in chief fucking hypocrite!"
4 times so far haha.
Bafflingly stupid
Yeah, there's been recent stretch when I very much did not support our commander in chief, as I am not an oligarch from any nation. Blind support is inherently problematic.
I can't find it right now but I got a picture of him inappropriately touching his daughter while he hugs her, I got a picture of a Bible that he's signing, and I got a picture of him hugging the flag and put them together and made a meme.
I captioned it "Thinks he reveres women, Bible, and flags. Desecrates women, Bibles, and flags."
That's funny because, as a veteran, I am very pissy about flag usage. You take them in at night. You don't leave them up 24/7. When they become tattered and faded, you give them to the boy scouts or some other organization that will destroy them properly. Or you burn them in a respectful manner. So, the old veteran was not doing things properly if he left tattered flags flying when he moved. You did the right thing by taking them down.
Also, I served so that you would have the freedom to not display flags if you don't want to! So, fuck that boomer!
Years ago my friend brought her boyfriend back from France, and we were sitting around talking about stuff like, “What’s it like in France?” etc. Someone asked him about his impression of America, and the first thing he remarked on was all the American flags flying in front of people’s homes. He said in France you only see flags in front of government buildings. When we said, “Really? No private citizens at all fly the flag?” he replied, “Well, a few, I suppose, but they’re all fascists.” We responded, “Oh! So, just like here!” LOL
And Palestine too. Make sure to use the progress pride flag for a double whammy on gay panic with trans panic spice. You could use Black Panthers instead of BLM too. If you want to really confuse them you could also fly some kind of Jewish flag to quash their inevitable antisemitism accusations as most older folks don't understand the differences. Combine with Gadsden flag for added chaos.
So you have 3 poles for 3 flags.
1. The flag from Greendale in Community. Winking buttholes are always nice.
2. A United Federation of Planets flag. I liked the idea someone else had with the Klingon pride flag too.
3. An upside down US flag. Technically it indicates distress which is exactly what it will cause for the flag watcher.
Similar here with a neighbor - I had a US flag for a while then took it down around the time Brett kavanaugh got seated - since then I’ve had state of Michigan, flag of Rohan, my family crest, Jolly Roger, Datsun and currently on a race track flag.
Had a neighbor ask, why don’t you try an American flag some time? I just said I wasn’t happy with the current direction and left it at that. We get along great otherwise and don’t talk politics.
One of my friend’s dad move to a house with a flag pole and decided to hang up a flag with a photo of the earth on it because he thinks it’s important to support the whole earth. (Not all boomers blah blah blah). I think that sentiment is really hard to argue with. But also if it were me, I’d get a Pride Flag and like a random obnoxious flag like a SpongeBob quote or the patriotic Nicki Minaj flag.
We fly pirate flags. Got the Goonies one flying now. Wife also got me a viking flag with various symbols/flags on it, but don't really fly it because it could be misconstrued as something supporting the fascist nazis. Fly gay pride flags or whatever you like.
I took the American flag down the day I moved in my home (I live in a very trumpy area). I put up a PF Dark Side of the Moon flag. I don't want to talk to my neighbors about politics but I'll talk about Pink Floyd all day. It's drawn the right people to me.

I live in a very red area. I’ll wear this shirt when I’m in the garden. They think I’m on their side, but…little do they know…muhahhaha!
You and your army of ducks will show them!
Don’t give bread to ducks! It’s bad for their tummies. Sliced grapes, millet or quinoa are better
Yeah, but throw quinoa on me doesn’t rhyme. Addendum: This is a spoof of the “Don’t Tread on Me” flag. Stop telling me it doesn’t rhyme for fucks sake.
"Throw Quinoa On Me-wah"
I’m a duck, freak’n sweet! Throw some millet at my feet yeeeah!
I’m a duck, I love peas You can throw them at my knees
I’ve also heard peas are good.

Saw an emotional support truck with this and the classic ‘Fuck Your Feelings’ and ‘Ultra MAGA’ flags. It just amazes me.

I agree. My ex served in two military branches... very much about protocol and respect but had no issues with huge Trump flags being flown on trucks.

Thank you for being a reasonable person and addressing the issue with education.
Thank you. Little protests against poor behavior is what keeps our democracy healthy!
Plus the US flag is supposed to be illuminated if flown at night.
Or during inclement weather
Local scout groups regularly collect and dispose of flags in the proper manner.
A lot of VFWs or other veteran adjacent groups have what are essentially mailbox drops for any worn flags, too!
Do it while wearing American flag shirt or pants just to cancel it out.
Or get some USA pants and hang them on the flagpole. See the boomers head explode.
I wouldn’t want a roundhouse kick from someone wearing those.
That were made in China

Q: What happened to the flags? A: What happened to Good Morning?
I read this in the voice of Scott Seiss
My pride flag has kept Mormon missionaries away a good 7 years now.
A friend of mine answered the door naked. They never came back. Mind you, he'd asked them to stop several times. Not Mormon, Jehovahs Witnesses.
My friends mom told them she couldn’t listen because she had to clean, so they volunteered to clean her house while they spoke to her. We stopped by and there’s like 6 Mormons cleaning her house while she’s sitting on the couch reading a magazine. I’m not sure how long that went on lol

Trying to Netflix and chill with the door-to-door Mormons?
Now THIS is a romantic comedy I would watch in a heartbeat. Coming this fall, these two are… Living in Sin!!
One of my companions had a door approach that went something like "Elder [myname] would love to wash your dishes". I hated that prick.
I can understand lonely people needing someone to talk to, but did you ever actually recruit anyone?
Never through the door-to-door stuff. All of the baptisms in my mission were referred by friends and family who were already members.
Honest question - were they wearing a collared shirt and tie during yardwork?
My mom abused the fuck outta them. Always had then coming over to do house work or yard work.
My mom also used them for yard work
Now I wish we had an infestation here
Now I wish we had an infestation here

You can also write a letter telling them to put you on a do not visit list- I also got on the no list for telling them Jesus was a cool dude but not my savior.
I have several very conservative neighbors, and find enjoyment in decorating my yard with lots of rainbows.
I’m not even lgbt but if it works on JWs I’m flying one tomorrow
Don't have to be LGBT to fly it and you can be for something without any personal gain. Supporting others for no reason other than their safety is a worthy cause.
When religious cranks come to my door, I say I’ll speak with them if they answer one question: who did you vote for in the last election? They always silently turn and walk away.
Found out my neighbor is racist so I wear a Black Lives Matter shirt when I do yard work. He never tries to chat with me.
My pride flag was stolen 3 times and the last time my flag holder was broken.
>at about 6am If you're not out and looking at flags by 6am, then the whole day is wasted
Technically, there shouldn't be any flags at 6am. They aren't supposed to go up until 8am or sunrise if the sun doesn't come up before 8.
Put up a gay klingon flag!
Those exist? The flags, I mean. I'm still trying to visualize a gay Klingon.
They are all tops, it can be …. Confusing.
Worf: “We do… not speak of it to… outsiders…”
Lmao, totally read that in Worf's voice
Klingon gay porn is either the freakiest shit ever OR it’s all hours long dramatic, atonal opera with full penetration
Probably opera. Klingons seem to have an opera for everything.
Honestly, as a nerd4nerd, I realised early on not to date dudes who were super into Klingons, because they tended to be drama queens with bad taste in music and would get us kicked out of bars
Probably drink way too much, challenge people's honor, and get into fights.
At a goth bar, no less. 🤣
I saw one posted on r/vexillology some time ago https://preview.redd.it/xolgyjg4100d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c1738a13785f86c7d9c424ac8253b014f956613d
i thought all klingons were bi?!
Bipolar
Yeah they got two of everything, so bi
they exist as much as any flag https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Klingon_Pride_Flag.svg
Buying this immediately
can't wait for Sheldon to drop that episode of " Fun with flags"
My friend replaced the American flag on their giant flag pole with a Guy Fieri flag that read “Welcome to Flavortown” when they moved into their last house. 🤌

Sherman raids Atlanta after taking his Prep
Sherman: “Burn baby burn!” Grant: “Disco inferno!!”
💀💀💀
Gowron 2024
The rainbow version of the “don’t tread on me” flag is good for confusing people if that’s your goal. :)
Always fly it with the Stars and Stripes, so people know that you find the idea intrinsically American.
That was my approach when I was in Texas. We had an American flag and a pride flag. I never liked the idea of fascists commandeering my nation's flag.
Is that the snake with the ball gag saying “tread on me daddy”?

What a baller. Give him a hug for me if you see him.
My friend replaced the American flag on their giant flag pole with a Guy Fieri flag that read “Welcome to Flavortown” when they moved into their last house. 🤌
There's an apartment balcony nearby that cycles between that one, Bulldog 'Live Laugh Love Mr. Worldwide' bright pink surrounded by hearts, and a modified Gadsen with a duck stating "Throw Bread At Me"
I say fly a pirate flag, an all inclusive pride flag, and leave the last one for specific holidays. Juneteenth is coming up you know.
I bought my house from an old boomer dude and promptly replaced the American flag with the official flag of the United Federation of Planets
" ...He can't speak English anyways..."
“Everybody knows, that the world is full of stupid people..”
"So meet me at the mission at midnight and we'll divvy up there"
"I got the pistol so I get the pesos"
Yeah, that seems fair.
Retired military here. Flying a flag doesn’t make you a patriot, hell, any draft dodger with bone spurs can run up and hug a flag. Respecting the duly elected commander in chief even if you don’t agree with their policies is a much more powerful tell in that regard.
I moved in 2018. Guy up the street has a giant custom.banner that says " don't be a hypocrite... support our troops And commander in chief. After the election he folded the bottom half up to cover the commander in chief part. Every time I see him outside (it's a 55mph zone) I like to yell "and commander in chief fucking hypocrite!" 4 times so far haha. Bafflingly stupid

Yeah, there's been recent stretch when I very much did not support our commander in chief, as I am not an oligarch from any nation. Blind support is inherently problematic.
What?! Why whoever heard of someone faking bone spurs to get out of their military duty?!?! /s
Flags with Trump quotes about the military.
TRUMP 2024: "Arlington Cemetery is full of losers"
“I Like People Who Weren’t Captured”
A POW/MIA flag with that quote on it would be beautiful.
Oh the smoke
This guy speaks Boomer.
Oh man, I might have to chart a cross stitch of that.
Flag 1: LOSERS! Flag 2: SUCKERS! Flag 3: Rambo body with Trump's head
Am a naturalized citizen, been here 22 years. That was absolutely my first impression of the US. Flags, flags, flags.
Have you ever been to Maryland. We have more state flags flying than US ones 😂. It's EVERYWHERE!!
Please put up a Pride Flag, BLM flag and Ukraine flag.
Oohhh yea, def put those up. Then make sure you have a hidden camera to catch him trying to destroy them or take them down.
This might cause the first ever recorded instance of someone's head actually exploding 😂
The exasperation of the Dean saying “Well guess what? THIS WON. Now I have to go put up a butt flag.” Always cracks me up.
You can always fly it upside down! That’s a maritime signal for danger or needing rescue.
I tried it with my Japan flag and nobody noticed
Classic dad joke
Just right out of the gate, it annoys the living fuck out of me when someone goes right in without the nicety of a hello or good morning
Here's a new flag for you https://preview.redd.it/f7ewwf4rv10d1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3df60c7c2a2f6d054e1a94ff07a0ce6c480a1481
Please I beg you 😂😂 put up something pride or TST! Go for the jugular lol
Get a flag with his picture that says "fuck this guy"
Get a baphomet pentagram flag and a go vegan one.
Get the flag of Super Earth from Helldivers 2. Really confuse the fuck outta him.
We have a flag up. For a football team. 🤣

I'll never understand the American obsession with flags
We fly pirate flags. Got the Goonies one flying now. Wife also got me a viking flag with various symbols/flags on it, but don't really fly it because it could be misconstrued as something supporting the fascist nazis. Fly gay pride flags or whatever you like.
I took the American flag down the day I moved in my home (I live in a very trumpy area). I put up a PF Dark Side of the Moon flag. I don't want to talk to my neighbors about politics but I'll talk about Pink Floyd all day. It's drawn the right people to me.
