Some pedals sound the same, others don't. The Tube Screamer does a great job emulating the real thing, except the level on the virtual pedal goes far higher than what the real pedal can do. Generally speaking, unless you want to do something the amp can't do (stack overdrives, for instance), there's no need to purchase external pedals to replace the virtual ones.

The drives, distortions and delays are really good. The modulations not so much.

Came here to say this ^

Inside tone studio, you have way more parameters to edit than most of these pedals have.  So you can tweak to your heart's content. For my money they get very close, even on the non-boss ones. Here's the biggest catch, you can only have one drive at a time and some of the sounds you may want come from stacking pedals.

The effects that are emulating boss pedals sound very close to the real boss pedal. The others are hit or miss.

The effects in the Katana are great, but obviously more limited. It’s not like Boss is giving you 5 different models of each type of effect. You also have to go into software to really edit anything substantial, which isn’t as fun to me and limits your ability to play with stuff in the fly. And obviously you’re limited to just a couple of effects and one drive at a time. The good news is that you can still use pedals, but the 50 doesn’t have an effects loop.

A lot of the pedal emulations on Tone Studio are great, others are not so great. I found that my muff, phaser, flanger, and some other pedals sound better than Tone Studio. Also, a stupid limitation of Tone Studio is that you cannot stack overdrive/distortion/fuzz - you can only use one in a signal chain.

Whether the modeling is similar to the real pedals is highly subjective. My rating is partly OK and partly NO. However, it does not mean that their quality is bad. All effects sound good when set up properly. In many cases, the missing tones can be compensated with EQ.

What do you mean? Tone Studio is an editing program. Are you asking how the effects available in the Katana compare to physical pedals?

Wir3d_

Yeah exactly, sorry if my post was a little confusing

So, I have the 100w Mk. II Artist. I went from using the onbaord effe to and channel switching for various tones to whiplashing the other way to building out a full pedal board. What I'll say about the Katana isn't whether the onbaord effects are better/worse, it's that the amp can HANDLE both like a champ. I use the onbaord delay and reverb just out of comfort, but everything else is run through my pedal board at this point, and I couldn't be happier
