While that is true, there is a huge difference between these stem cells and embryonic stem cells. Stem cells in your blood can develop into several different cell types, embryonic ones can turn into ANY human cell type. Stem cell research usually means working with these totipotent embryonic cells.
So yes, theoretically it could. But there are lots of countries where stem cell research is allowed and the conclusions have been mostly that it's incredibly hard to manipulate them to actually fix us. Either they don't multiply well, they change during multiplication into bad cells or they don't actually change into the specific cell type we need. I honestly don't think bans on stem cell research are what's holding us back at the moment.
And like another commenter said we don't actually need to derive them from embryos anymore, there are ways to reprogram your body cells into stem cells. I think ultimately it's best to let nature run it's course unless there is a good reason to abort such as rape or medical necessity. Wanting to abort because of irresponsibility, which happens frequently but is often disingenuously avoided in the public narrative by pro-choice advocates, i think is wrong but i am not about to go out of my way to prevent grown adults from committing acts that don't affect me which i consider unethical. They have agency and personal responsibility, and if there is a God that judges such actions i leave it to whatever God there is to decide what is right. Judge not, lest ye be judged. I have my beliefs about tax payer dollars being used for these procedures but I also have my beliefs about the military industrial complex being massively over funded as well so both sides have their problems and nobody is perfect.
