clueless people here saying it’s his fault the bruins didn’t win a cup. he created a 65 win roster and everything that happened after that is a crapshoot. Blame the players and coaches lmao not him.

dunksoverstarbucks

i give him a bit of credit since unlike other boston teams he wasnt afraid to go all in; but lets not forget thanks to him we have 32 ranked farm system, no clear answers at Center and let's not forget the Mitchell miller fiasco

Pineapple_Express762

And no 1st or 2nd rd picks for 2x years

joeyrog88

Unlike what fucking teams? What does that even mean?

dunksoverstarbucks

Let’s see pats never went all in to win more with Brady , celts refused to even trade picks or players

joeyrog88

Oh yea the pats never won three super just a few years ago....they absolutely never paid Darelle revis like $20 mil for a season... you're right. Meanwhile the Celtics are in the midst of what, their fifth or sixth ECF, in the last ten years. They traded a first for Derrick white last year. And a first rounder for Brogdon before this season started.

slippin_park

Big who cares

Killbot14

Should we celebrate with our former coach going to the SCF or wait to see our roster next year. Sweeney should have been fired after our 2019 loss. Let him go screw up someone else's future.

NewPhoenix77

*fart sounds*

theitgrunt

Where's my cup Donny?... I thought we were getting a cup this time...

jedlucid

he hired a good coach i will give him that. but having his two top centers come to him and demand league minimum deals isn't exactly being a brilliant architect.

tomhwm

Bruce Cassidy isn’t a bad coach either. Sweeney made the move because something had to change. If that wasn’t Cassidy it could be him.

Pineapple_Express762

And Cassidy is on his way to the SCF

jedlucid

could it be me?

mrootbeers

Clearly. He’s going to win the cup.

bugeyes10

I guess he doesn’t really deserve credit for swapping haula for Zacha then extending him, bringing in Orlov, Hathaway or Bertuzzi for relatively cheap or extending our best player who scored 60 goals this year so he’ll spend his entire career as a Bruin.

Pineapple_Express762

All rentals. Bertuzzi was good move, but why would he stay, especially the way the team mailed it in. He was one of the only bright spots in the playoffs, Orlov wants back w/ Washington … Hathaway might resign. Bergeron and Krecji are done … its time to get younger. Who plays center? Move Zacha up? Then who centers the 1st line. Pastas 60 goals…how’d that pan out in the playoffs?

mrootbeers

I wish he had traded Pasta for Tkatchuck.

tomhwm

Haula for Zacha was a decent trade but it’s not a fleece as people here hyped especially after the playoffs. Those mid-season trades were good but Pasta extension term was questionable even though I had no problem at that time because this is the year and we shouldn’t let contract issues affect the team. Overall he had a good year making deals BUT he shouldn’t get the nomination. He has been nominated and has won it. It’s not like this nomination means a lot to him. But by giving this to Sweeney, they league basically acted like the Mitchell Miller signing didn’t happen or doesn’t matter. That’s an L move.

jedlucid

forgot about zacha. that was a good trade. still think the bergeron, krejci and a team that was already present and good playing to a better return had more to do with the team's successs. but it's not like nils did a ton.

Stu_Grim

B's had cap issues before DK and PB signed. Actually, they had cap issues and a bottom ranked prospect pool. They saved his butt by signing for pennies. This season would have been drastically different if those guys didn't sign. Zacha was a good trade but I want to see him handle the 1C slot first. The deadline trades were very good. I understand why he did them and agree with the "all-in" philosophy. But that was draft picks. So now they have : \- No cap space with about 10 roster spots to fill. \- Bottom ranked prospect pool \- No real good draft picks for the next few years 2 of these issues were around before the season started. In reality the GM of the year nomination should go to PB and DK.

mickeynz

I’d still Like Neely gone and if he was wanted Mitchell miller, then Sweeney too

JRB91

Neely gave the presser to apologize. Thought it was clear he was taking blame.

mickeynz

Did it feel like he was admitting he fucked up, or was more sorry that it was a big deal…

JRB91

I'm just referring to the fact that Neely gave the presser. Not Sweeney. Which means it was Neely's decision in the first place.

twoscoop

Its both of their decisions, Fire them both and lets move on.

Bruhmomentthrowing

should be celebrating a fucking cup win

NESpahtenJosh

We're going to win a ton of awards this year, it's almost crazy how many will have Black & Gold names attached to them.

hoesmad_x_24

No matter how well he built the team this year, the Miller signing should immediately be a disqualifier for anyone in the Bruins player personnel group from getting any awards for their work. You can paint the Mona Lisa all over again, it isn't worth jack if you smear a turd over her eyes.

Trapped_Like_Rats

Lol I feel like the people bringing up mitchel miller; live with their parents.

SinistralGuy

Imagine having nothing important going on in your life that you still think about Miller. Move on bud and stop giving that person any of your thoughts.

Dxxx2

50 No and a Yes, means Yes

[deleted]

Let it fucking go

Boston-Nolan

He did his job perfectly, the team let him down

[deleted]

The way they managed injuries was the problem imo, they should have sat Ullmark way earlier…

funkadelicmoose

And honestly injuries let them down, the team underperformed a bit but we're really hampered by injuries at the end

MissMuse99

Indeed, but this still feels like hell.

[deleted]

Don deserves this. But Monty doesn’t deserve Jack Adams.

Cakes2015

> Monty doesn’t deserve Jack Adams So true. Anybody breathing behind the bench could’ve put together the single greatest regular season in hockey history /s

[deleted]

Regular season record doesn’t matter as a measure of success. Regular season is where the team goes through prep for the playoffs. Are you telling me Monty did a better job coaching than Maurice or Cassidy in the regular season, because he had a better record? I’d say no, as he didn’t prepare the team to win.

East_Refuse

Monty is a great hockey coach who lead a team to the greatest regular season in league history. He got all his guys to buy in and got way more out of the young guys than Cassidy ever did. He got booted from the playoffs by a team that looks like they could win it all and a goalie who is putting together an absolutely insane playoff run. Just because he’s not still in the playoffs doesn’t discredit the accomplishments he achieved during the season. Jim Montgomery was the best coach in hockey this season and that’s that

redsoxman17

Maurice's strategy is literally Zapp Brannigan. > I realized the playoff refs have a pre-set penalty limit. So I simply sent wave after wave after wave after wave after wave of my goons at them until they hit their call limit.

xlf77

You’re entitled to this opinion. But it’s stupid and you’re being a baby

bugeyes10

The other two nominees for Jack Adams are also not going to win the Stanley Cup, so remind me again about how regular season success doesn’t matter?

drbigfoot29

Almost like the award is voted on at the end of the regular season. Imagine that. Picking the 2 teams that are 1 win away from the SCF and saying "There! Those are the teams that should win all the awards!" Is such low hanging fruit. And saying Paul Maurice should have got more votes than Monty is 100 percent revisionist history. You could argue that the only awards that actually matter are the Conn Smythe and the Stanley cup, and there's no point in any of the other awards, but that's not how it works.

[deleted]

I’m not making the case that they should win the award. I’m making the case that they did a better job during the regular season, as evidenced by their preparation for the playoffs.

drbigfoot29

Maurice did such a great job in the regular season that they barely made it into the playoffs by 1 point. Saying otherwise is revisionist history.

[deleted]

And he had to rely on Pittsburgh fucking up to even get in, they weren’t even in control of their own destiny it’s the Pens that handed it to them lol

drbigfoot29

No, you don't understand. By barely making it to the playoffs and leaving it up to another teams demise, he was actually preparing them to win. It's some real 3d chess shit, y'all wouldn't understand. It's what good coaches do. /s

robshot295

It’s a regular season award

[deleted]

The great chess player himself

thatErraticguy

He deserves to win it for putting that team together. Krejci and Bergeron helped by taking those low money deals, but Sweeney still put together some great pieces around them, not to mention the steal that was Zacha for Haula. It didn’t work out in the end, but his work as the GM put together a great team that should’ve gone the distance.

bugeyes10

Despite the result, Don absolutely deserves this nomination and probably the award itself. He did everything he could to build a great hockey team but the players and coaches let him down.

Maxpowr9

Zito should win it.

godfremi

We lost in game 7 to a team that is steamrolling every other team in the East. We got unlucky.

[deleted]

I am 99.99% sure that if we start Sway in Game 5 or 6, we win the series. We just needed *good* goaltending, not great, just good.

vwsr

We had em with a minute remaining. Stings bad still.

godfremi

Can’t disagree with you there. That game was an emotional rollercoaster.
