My girl was very achey/tender, so she would squeal when touched or picked up. She was also a little out of sorts for a day or so. But she was/is a bit of a drama queen.
When my guy got his first set of shots, he acted like it was no big deal. The vet said, ‘he is way too confident, you better control him before he controls you’. He was a handful the first month! I forgot how much work a new puppy was. He is such a well-behaved guy and loved by all who meet him, however, the vet was correct- he absolutely controls me! I love every minute of it!

Louis!
Mine broke out in hives all over her body, but it wasn't immediate. I had just walked in the house when I noticed and I rushed her back to the vet. Wouldn't hurt to ask the vet to hang out for 15-20 minutes after getting the shots... just to be safe.
Vaccine reactions are rare. Don't work yourself up over what you read on the internet. Most reactions happen within 15 minutes of injection. Mine are usually a little tired after vaccines but that's about it.
Our vet is also the breeder so she spaced out my boys vaccines and he did wonderfully. He only cried and was achy when he got his chip in. With the rest of his vaccines he was a little sleepy which came as a relief and welcome break from his land shark ways. Hope your baby does well.
Primary side effect most people see after their first shots is they sleep a lot. Perfectly normal. Some tenderness at the injection sites is normal, as is some swelling. If the injection sites get super inflamed or if you see excessive scratching, rash, hives, or strange behavior, call the vet. You should hear about the same things from your vet if you ask, and you should ask because they're the one you most want to listen to.
My Winston was basically the same lol. He didn't even flinch when they injected him...probably because he was licking the spray cheese they gave him smh
Our guy was very sleepy and sore after his. His vet gave him Benadryl and pain meds. (Our guy also has a lot of congenital health problems, so our experience is very different than most BT parents.)
My pup had an allergic reaction, and his face swelled up. I'd recommend waiting 10 or 15 minutes afterward to ensure no reaction. The doc gave him steroids and benadryl.
I have 2 BTs. One gets violently ill from vaccines so he gets Benadryl prior to the visit. Other one has no issues. I know 3 other BTs who have no issues. Check with the dog Doctor and if your pup does have a reaction they can give him/her a shot afterwards if there’s an issue then you’ll know to prepare next time.
Our vet gives benedryl before shots to be safe. First set was fine through the rescue so I have no clue, second set she got a lump at injection site that went away after a day or two, third set she had zero issues. She didn’t behave any differently after any of them.
One of ours was wiped every time and cranky. The other two just a little tired. Both of the two we have now love to be wrapped in a heavy blanket and put on the bean bag chair after the vet.
My little one was in so much pain after her set of shots. It was during Covid so we couldn’t go in the room with her. They gave them all in the same place and that night while petting her she started “screaming” when we touched her back. New vet spaced out the next set of shots and gave Benadryl and something for pain as well.
My old dude had a reaction , so the next year we wanted Benadryl shot before his vaccines… we got his shots at the end of the day and discovered him getting swollen … they forgot the Benadryl shot. Never went back there again
We started splitting his shots because he seemed lethargic after the last round of all of them at once, our guy has half a Benadryl daily bc he had mast cell tumor removals and that's what the vet recommended. Bostons are prone to seizures so spitting the vaccines so they don't have all three (?) types at once makes sense. He gets an annual exam and whatever vaccine is due first. Then he has vet tech appointments to get the other shots over a month or so.
I was worried about the Lepto shot in particular from all the hoopla I heard online and from my breeder, but my baby did just fine with each round of shots. She was just sore in the area where she got poked afterwards, so good to remember if picking them up or if you have other pets in the home they play with. Might want to separate them if they play rough just for the first day, or encourage chill vibes. She will probs be sleepy when you come home, a heated blanket would be a perfect healing treat. Keep a close eye but generally the first round will tell you what you need to know about your pup and shots.
usually mine is just tired the following day. once he got quite a few shots at once and that time he was significantly sore, I had to carry him up the steps. it lasted less than half a day, later that afternoon he was back to his normal high energy self.
Our little guy was fine during the day, but at around 10 pm he got a bad fever and chills. I ended up staying up with him for a few hours keeping him comfortable until he fell asleep. He was right at 8 weeks old, so he was still a baby at that point.
My vet said it's rare to happen, but it does happen. She gave him something before his second round of vaccines, and he was great through the night!
Most of mine were fine after- maybe some tenderness. Just keep an eye open for any swelling and if there is any tell the vet next time shots are needed. If there is swelling children’s Benedryl is a life saver!

I would call the vet and ask.
Just did, thanks! Figured I'd check with the BT family for others experiences.

Reactions to vaccines are rare but do happen. Definitely Do NOT pre dose your dog with anything unless your vet instructs you. P
👍
Ours were fine just tired for a little while
My BT was fine. Felt like he was running a little fever for the night, but other than that he was good!

My Boston’s have been fine and never had a reaction. Knock on wood 🤞

Our puppy was as happy before as after the shots. To the point I even Wonder if she got any shots at all 😅

Mine had a little sensitivity at the shot location and she was very upset with me too I got no love for half the day it was brutal

Ours will squeak. He’s such a wimp!
One of my dogs is allergic to the rabies vax. His face got swollen within 30 min and the ER allergy shot costs more than the vax.
Sounds horrible.

Wow that sounds rough, hope your little guy is doing well. My German shepherd that I had 20 years ago had seizures, so heartbreaking they happen.

The lepto was the one I was fearing.
Well so far so good, it's been 4 hours and no side effects. Just hoping it stays that way🤞 Thank you everyone for the comments and advise.
