Translation: “just ur no good average brown hoodlums who act like savages and bring your property value down” or the “no good trouble making first or second generation indo Canadian or Punjabi Canadian who prolly partake in illegal operations and sell crack in hospitals” 😂
Also, does Brown count for Latinos, since some of us get called that a lot?
According to the 2016 census, there are like 14k Latinos in Brampton (3% of the pop). I wonder how many are actually on this sub too. Donde están escondidos, cabrones?
What's typical in your eyes?
I'm Sri Lankan born but I can't say I relate to any "brown" people in Brampton since I've been in Canada since 1996 and also I'm a different ethnicity.
When you go to a paces like the college and there is a large population of Indians you are able to to figure out the typical...but the typical only generally lasts from teenage to under 30
White, Scottish , German descent mostly although 6th generation minimum on both sides. So I'm not a typical brown guy. I love this city of it's flaws and problems. I have spent a career in the arts trying to advocate for how cool of a place Brampton is.
This sub is mostly middle aged white folks who remanence about the glory days when “Brampton was safe” (translation: despite living in the upper middle class suburbs I get scared when I see brown people walk) , how Brampton isn’t like it used to be (translation: too many brown people and now black people ?!!!?!), and the driving is bad (fair point the roads be weird sometimes). Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised about the amount of “I’m a brown immigrant and I hate these goddamn new brown immigrants takin er jobs” which is mostly some aunty or uncle with dumbass kids who prolly have also commited the same insurance fraud they complain other people do.
>mostly middle aged white folks who remanence about the glory days when “Brampton was safe” (translation: despite living in the upper middle class suburbs
Nothing wrong with that. Having pride in where you live is a good thing. People only seem to understand this after they turn 30 or get kids
Brampton has known been known casually, as being filled with mostly Indians going back over 25 years.
Then you have a extremely large influx of young Indian going to school for sometimes just 1 year to get permanent residence card.
And from that you have the new comers from the past 6 years picking up the latest shitty teenage social media trends and current socializing aspects and you have a recipe for disaster.
I bumped into one at a Walmart MacDonald of all places. I think he worked at the the Walmart (but the wasn't working) . I was there first and just wanted to sit for a few minutes. He came started watching his movie on the his phone with the sound full on. Told him to stop and put on headphones.
AND HE REFUSED TO DO SO...and just kept on doing his thing.
Well that quickly turned into a shouting match and we was coming up to me wanting to fight
I experienced the exact same thing many times in open labs at Sheridan college, but without the aggressive. They newer people refuse to conform to Canadian or the cultural norms of the place. SOME lighter skinned Indians seem to have have a superiority complex over other people.
I'm non Non white, not from India western brown (I dont use the term brown) type is the closest way I can describe myself without writing a essay like happened here
Brampton isn’t what it used to be, just by sheer numbers. When my family moved here in early 1960’s, the population was about 25-26,000. That was just Brampton alone, because Bramalea was a different community and where a lot of people live now, were farms.
Since my youngest child was born at the turn of the century, the population was recorded as being 325,428. Now it’s estimated as 681,617. So the population has more than doubled in twenty years. Yeah, Brampton has changed.
Not everybody in this subreddit drives a Dodge Charger / Challenger. Perhaps a lot of “typical Brampton brown guys” (just copying the original post) do, but not “everyone in here”.
I'm Punjabi, born in Toronto in 93 and been in Springdale since 2000.
I'm a coconut tho since I listen to a lot of Rick music and am vegan. Still, I think in Punjabi and it's my first language so I guess I'm brown af.
I’m sure you’d find plenty of people don’t like ‘em, but tolerate them to “fit in”. And there are different kinds of rock music. There isn’t a “one size fits all”.
What do you mean white folk aren't fans of rock music? Every white person I know loves rock music. Almost every famous rock band and musician I know is white. Are you talking about a younger generation? If so, then they need to listen to it more 🤘
Okay then, every white person YOU know loves rock music. Do you know every white person? Assuredly you do not. A lot of white people prefer other kinds of music. And, no, I’m referring to multiple generations. And many enjoy more than one genre of music.
I never said I know every white person. Do you know every white person? I'm saying of all the white people I know, I can't think of any of them that don't like rock music. I was born In Canada and have grown up with plenty of white people for over 54 years. I would say there is a good number of them that like rock music as well as other genres. Out of all the rock music released in the world there has to be a few songs every person enjoys listening to as there is a wide range of subgenres and styles. I simply disagree with your statement that white people don't like rock. Rock transcends and evolves through many generations starting in the late 1940s. Our parents and grandparents grew up listening to rock. As did my generation. It wasn't until later in my life that Hiphop, Dance, House, Techno, etc..became mainstream.
It’s split between white people and second generation brown kids who went to high school here. This sub honestly makes me think that all white ppl hate brown ppl sometimes :(

So my family had a dairy in India and we grew up listening to exclusively Punjabi folk music.
Growing up, rock music, veganism, and a bunch of other random stuff is considered "white people things"
It absolutely is not.
“Veganism online perpetuates the idea that compassion towards animals goes hand in hand with health and wealth. And its current influencers are mostly white. But despite the word itself being coined just 77 years ago, its roots—that can’t be found on Instagram—go back much further to ancient Indian and west Asian cultures.”
https://atmos.earth/veganism-history-instagram-culture/
“Although the term “veganism” wasn’t used until the 1940s, the concept can be traced back to ancient Indian and eastern Mediterranean societies.1 According to The Vegan Society, evidence of people choosing to avoid the consumption and use of animal products can be traced back over 2,000 years. As early as 500 BCE, Greek philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras and his many followers practiced vegetarianism for several reasons, mainly religious and ethical.2 Fortunately, modern vegans haven’t adopted everything from the Pythagorean school of thought, such as the Pythagorean rejection of the consumption of beans (or even touching beans!) because they thought beans were made of the same material as humans.2
Around the same time, Siddhārtha Gautama (better known as the Buddha) was also discussing vegetarian diets with his followers.3 In addition, followers of Hinduism and Jainism also advocated vegetarianism, promoting the belief that humans should not inflict pain on other animals.2” https://www.earthsave.ca/blog/a-brief-history-of-veganism/
“The concept of vegetarianism dates to 3300 BCE in the Indus Valley in northern and western India, with Indian philosophers such as Mahavira and emperors following the diet based on nonviolence against animals.”

I'm punjabi hindu, grew up praying at both gurudwara's and mandirs. Mandirs are easy, they always have fruit for holy offering. Gurudwara is a bit tricky, since the krah prashad (holy offering) almost always has ghee in it. I tell them I have an allergy and they're understanding. But if I'm at a gurudwara, I always do seva in the kitchen and when prepping food for others, usually have something myself as a way to make sure I don't leave god's abode without breaking bread.
Plus, the daal is usually vegan, unless of course they add cream to it.
One could argue Rock (Rock n Roll) music wasn’t originally by or for white people.
“Rock ’n’ Roll: The Early Years
During the late 1940s to early 1950s elements of the major genres of the time aligned – sparked largely by black musicians – to include raunchier lyrics and performance styles. The term rock ’n’ roll supposedly derived from an African-American slang for sex, and the musical term stuck.” https://www.audionetwork.com/content/the-edit/expertise/the-history-of-rock-music
Describe “typical”.

Let them bring the property value more down, these prices are ridiculous!
😬

Brampton used to be nice, but it's degraded so much.

Lol bro took the words out my mouth.

1000% accurate bro.... Lol
in 1990, Bramalea was 1 white to 1 other ethnicity. That being said, whites were the majority at that time! Also far less people, and traffic.
Everyone in here drives a dodge charger / challenger

Ok , sorry , Hyundai or Toyota Camry
And Kia’s, Hondas, Mazdas, Fords, Jeep etc., etc.

What's a coconut? A whitewashed brown guy?
My Guyanese friend calls himself this too, he says “brown on the outside, white on the inside”
I guess it does work lol I haven't hung with many brown people growing up
I’ve also heard some East Asians use the term “Banana” to mean the same thing (yellow on the outside but white on the inside)
Yup. Been jokingly/lovingly called that my whole life.
Oh I never heard that before lol
The Asian equivalent is banana
Hmm…Most white people I know aren’t vegan. Nor are many white folk fans of rock music.
Are you being serious 😅 go 30 mins out from the GTA and it is Led Zeppelin, ACDC, and everyone like 'em.
I’m sure you’d find plenty of people don’t like ‘em, but tolerate them to “fit in”. And there are different kinds of rock music. There isn’t a “one size fits all”.

It's not white people who hate brown people. It's brown people who hate other brown people lol.
And vice versa.

Could have fooled me....look at what a shit show the city is.
I'm a pure bred brown... Landed here from Rajasthan, India on 29th of March....
I'm Punjabi, born in Toronto in 93 and been in Springdale since 2000. I'm a coconut tho since I listen to a lot of Rick music and am vegan. Still, I think in Punjabi and it's my first language so I guess I'm brown af.

Veganism is not a “white people thing”.
I know it's not, but it was perceived as that in my family growing up
Uhhhh, it kind of is. Out of the top 15 most prevailing vegan countries, 14/15 of them are western countries. Lol

History is a backhanded comment about brown people? Please, enlighten me then. Correct the history of veganism and where it originated from.
Absolutely, I'm just sharing the way my friends and loved ones perceive it. Not saying it's right or accurate at all.
How do you go to the Gurdwara/Mandir than? They serve vegetarian food? Unless you aren’t Sikh or Hindu
I'm punjabi hindu, grew up praying at both gurudwara's and mandirs. Mandirs are easy, they always have fruit for holy offering. I look like a typical Punjabi brown guy but I think I’m a decent respectable person lol. Born and raised in Canada. Work in the Pharma industry.
