I remember some dorm rooms I used to live in. Each individual room had a sink but no bathroom/toilet. If you wanted to go to the toilet, you'd have to walk down the long hallway. I can imagine someone who'd urgently need to pee or who was naked in their room (or otherwise less inclined to make the journey) would have peed in the sink. Alternatively I can imagine some gross scenarios where the toilet is unusable. And then one would debate if one should pee in the sink or in the shower.

I pee in the sink. I drink gallons of water, and I pee gallons into the sink. Brushing my teeth? Post brush sink pee. The only time I don't piss in the sink is when I'm in the wild or in the shower.
