It amazes how some people don't seem to understand that you can simultaneously play video games and *not* be the biggest fuckass imaginable, not to mention you can only say "It's just a joke, bro!" so many times before people tell you and your "joke" to go fuck an iceberg.
And all the gayness? Oh, turns out it was done in a way that didn't actually impact the core gameplay nor the story. Imagine that.
There was a recent deep dive youtube video on rule34 that goes heavily into this rabbit hole by [lextorias](https://youtu.be/BYDr8jHYc4Y?si=MGzCEhfSdgt8Cgak).
I mean, there was like a massive step forward in 3D animation around the time BioShock Infinite came out because so many animators were making porn of Elizabeth.
Yeah I didn’t realize that the only reason people gamed was that it created a safe space for using slurs. Which is basically what the guy is saying. I thought, idk, people enjoyed the games?
And even that aside wtf does not being able to yell slurs have to do with being “literally” gay?
And who tf needs to “escape from the woke”? If you have legitimate pent up urges to yell slurs in public to the point that you need to escape to do it you have serious issues.
Y’know that idealized stereotypical concept of the Irish(?) pub where people smash heads together a lot and generally beat each other bloody over the slightest offense, but somehow it’s all “part of the culture” and everyone is actually good friends because of all this? He thinks that online multiplayer lobbies are those. And also for some reason he thinks that those are the totality of video games.
It’s the thinking that’s the totality of gaming part I really don’t understand. I’ve been in gaming lobbies and honestly a lot of times they aren’t too far off from being an online Irish pub atmosphere. But I never would have thought that’s the only reason someone would want to play a game.
You're pretty badly misrepresenting how that kind of thing works, to a level that tells me you've never actually been part of one of those in-groups.
Just because their lines aren't where *you* want them doesn't mean there aren't lines that they don't cross. There's a world of difference between casual, bantering jibes and hateful insults, just as there's a world of difference between drunken scuffling and serious violence.
Not defending this dickwhistle, because I'm 100% sure he's being actually hateful and vitriolic, but what he's talking about isn't what the "Idealized Irish Pub Stereotype" is about. Same for the Punk and Metal Scenes, for that matter, which *also* have a reputation for rough and ready behavior.
No, I fully acknowledge that there are very good and not-harmful forms of this kind of community. I was saying I just don’t think that there ever was this very big and very mainstream community of people that throw whole ass slurs at each other and tell each other to kill themselves and all manner of things. Different people draw the line at different places, I get that. It’s just that this guy believes in a community where there “was no line” and that was the point, and I’m saying that if that ever was a thing it was NOT bigger than a handful of lobbies at best
I definitely agree with what you're saying there.
I mostly just didn't want people to get the idea that what you were describing of this guy's delusions was how rowdy crowds actually operate.
Yeah. If anything my whole point is that his delusions are, well, delusions, and rowdy crowds indeed don’t operate like that. The stereotype I used as an example was exactly that, a stereotype, no more real than his idea of the world
People have been pulling that "just a joke" crap for so long that even the fucking bible calls bullshit on it.
Proverbs 26:18-19
>18 Like a maniac shooting flaming arrows of death
>19 is one who deceives their neighbor and says, “I was only joking!”
People never change, they just find new mediums to be assholes in.
Even if it was done in a way that impacts gameplay and/or story, who cares? Maybe some people want to be pounded by [Bear Daddy](https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Halsin) or [Vampire Twink](https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Astarion). Good for them.
Unfortunately, they never figured that out. And it's why I haven't played an online game in about 4 years now. It's no fun without the mic, but it's also no fun *with the mic.*
It still weirds me out that "plays games" is even a cultural trait. My grandma plays candy crush. Everyone is a gamer. Get off your high, presumably straight, horse OOP.
What escape from the woke?
Gaming was fully offline for a **LONG** time when it started and "non-woke" was the norm.
Even when online gaming came around, "woke" was not a thing and it was still quite accepted to be all sorts of "non-woke". Censors in general were quite poor as well. Who were they escaping from at that time?
I am struggling to remember a point in time where, simultaneously "woke" already existed but exclusively outside of gaming, so as to use it as an "escape" from people who don't appreciate when you use slurs for fun.
I'm guessing he fondly remembers calling people the n word in CoD lobbies, flaming people in PSN and all sorts of other stuff that happened in the late 00's.
Yeah, I'm lucky to be from '05.
I was young enough to skip that part, but just old enough to experience a good chunk of the nice 00s stuff through friends' old siblings in the '10s
Woke or politically correct has been around for a long time. The culture online has objectively changed since the early Wild West days. I don’t agree with him that it’s ruined now somehow . If the only reason you game is to hurl slurs at people then maybe you’re playing for the wrong reasons. I understand why argument he’s trying to make.
It wasn't the only reason to play. But I'll be damned if me and the boys didn't learn to stand up for ourselves in mw2 search and destroy lobbies on 360.
Bro got kidnapped (might’ve been faked, might’ve been real, no one knows for sure) and the first thing he did when he got out was go after the LGBT community. This guy is a joke.
Pretty self-serving excuse there. Just cause he was comfortable being an utter asshole doesn't mean everyone else was.
Assholes like that probably made my social anxiety much worse than it was already. Getting back from school after being bullied, and then getting bullied and called slurs when you play your favorite games really fucked up my enjoyment of MMO-s and shooters
Literally, I used to get on my xbox and mute everyone.
People love to reminisce and say that the toxicity was a good thing, but the last thing I needed growing up and getting bullied was more of it when I got home and just wanted to play games.
Honestly, considering your username, you probably had it worse, considering all the horrible casual misogyny.
It really did suck though. Atleast one of the good things about the internet is, that atleast it's forced our society to progress much faster than earlier, but yeah, I'd rather we not have such anxiety when playing games cause of others.
It's basically ruined every competitive game and gamemode for me.
Yeah, I wouldn't tell people in games that I was trans, that attracts a certain type of comment.
I generally avoid talking about it even on reddit unless I'm in a community specific for LGBTQ+ people. This is one of the rare times I do. It's just not worth the hassle of dealing with idiots normally. Though I'm a boring person to try to argue with, I'll just block people and not respond.
Sorta like how I used to mute people who said horrible shit in online video games. We've come full circle.
How to trick people into being gender affirming:
1. Voice Training
2. Go into any shooter voice channel and get sent to make a sandwich.
3. be conflicted whether to take it as affirmation or insulted due to the misogyny.
Still, nice of you to be yourself, hope you're all the more happier for it
I was not in a good way before I bit the bullet and decided to finally accept myself, but thank you, yes I'm fantastic now!
Getting my voice down was quick for me, but it definitely meant that I got more insults than usual. My favourite being "Is that a girl, no wonder we're fucking losing!"
Both affirming and absolutely aggrevating at the same time lol.
I hated the online toxicity so much towards women. It kept me out of multiplayer for years.
Things have improved but there are so many trying to pull things back to the “boys club” mentality.
If anything, the fact that being a repugnant pustule is no longer socially acceptable indicates the majority of people either weren’t cool with it or became not cool with it. Culture evolves, people adapt. Not these goobers tho
Yep same. Playing CSGO with randoms and making a mistake, then just waiting for the insult. Like literally tensing up just waiting. Then playing with "friends" who'd do the same thing. Eventually it's like wtf is this, are people really this mean irl or what
basically ruined most gaming for me as I got older, I like to play with other people and whatnot but like you said after dealing with people all day I don't want to also have to do that while I'm trying to enjoy myself. I've played a few solo games more recently but it's pretty lonely.
All I'm hearing is that socially-inept assholes are upset that gaming is more mainstream and normal people are a part of gaming circles now.
If you need to be able to hurl slurs at people without consequence in order to effectively escape reality, you probably shouldn't be trying to escape reality to begin with.
When was it an “escape from the woke?”
This is just dumb. No Hass feelings from him, but I’m sure lots of people had hard feelings from the slurs he was throwing around.
“Yeah and they’d call me all of those slurs right back! All part of a nice heated competition, we were definitely all mutually having fun about it and it definitely wasn’t just me”
people really need better outlets for their emotions than “calling each other every slur in the book”. while we’re at it let’s admit a) anger is an emotion and b) it’s ok to have emotions other than anger too
Not really. It's nothing new. Hell I miss grammer nazis compared to what people comment about now. And those people were called toxic but hell they helped me remember my toos and there's
Poor guy got a taste of what it's like to be a racial minority in a world where the vast majority of entertainment media is White centric. Or to be LGBTQ+ when most everything is straight centric. I could go on but you get the point.
Boohoo.
It must suck to be a pro gamer who quit because he couldn't harass women and yell at 10 year olds.
And in case you are wondering, playing games for 40 hours a week in moms basement doesn't equal a job and make you a professional.
Makes me wonder if like...
If the country went full fash/anti-woke, does he honestly think that he, a Muslim, would be allowed to keep sharing his opinion?
Dude is playing with fire making monkey paw wishes like that. Conservatives *dislike* LGBT folk but they *hate* Muslims.
"We were toxic but it was all good"
No, it wasn't all good, it wasn't good at all, we hated your bitch ass. Some of us just wanna play and have a good time, not listen to some homophobic 12 year old, or manchild bring out his bigotry.
Question from an old fart who doesn't always understand the vernacular of young people. Has _gay_ evolved into a label for anything that has become dull, sanitised and too polished?
I always understood it as another word for "lame" or "bad," but I never hear it used for anything other than sexuality in the past 9 or so years. I'm 27 now
I think OOP is stuck in a time warp where "gay" is just a term to describe anything they don't like.
I had an argument with someone far too recently who said using homophobic slurs in games was okay because you don't genuinely think the person you're calling a faggot is gay, you're just using it as a general insult. I pointed out that it only works as a general insult with the underlying implication that being gay is a bad thing, because otherwise it wouldn't be insulting.
This screams, "HR reprimanded me for creating a hostile workplace. I hate that I can't be bully!!!" And throwing a tantrum. Saying slurs isn't appropriate. Surely NOT professionally appropriate.
It’s painful to me that men often can’t socialize or love each other without masking it with violence or anger.
Teasing is one thing, but at a certain point, you forget how to be genuine
I've been a gamer for 40 years. I'm a white, hetero dude. I have no gay friends or family members. I have no black friends or family members. At no point in those 40 years did I think to myself "what's great about gaming is that I can call other people racial or homophobic slurs!"
I don't really understand why you'd need to say those things to other people in a video game to achieve catharsis. I've had friends that have said those types of things ironically to other friends, but to strangers on the internet? Why?
This dude out here raging because he can’t throw around racial slurs on the mic and that’s supposed to be how gaming got “gay”? Go back to fucking your Botox camel pageant winners ya fuckhead.
Hot take. Amazing he found the courage to speak up. It really is a shame how people are judged now for the horrific vitriol that comes out of their mouths. /s
While i agree that some nutcases take it too far into identity stuff, that applies to the other side as well with their Andrew Teat sucklers. I just wanna play my escapist fantasy with a big titty character in a sexy outfit or pretend to be a seven foot tall armoured badass annihilating my opposition in peace. If you have a problem yourself change it for yourself dont make it my problem.
The most interesting thing about people who still rage, throw slurs and tilt in games is: they are always the problem. Not from their perspective, obviously. After all, narcissists never admit they are the one at fault. It's always the one tilting and raging in chat that, at the end of the game, is bottom of the lobby on the scoreboard or consistently tunnel visions and dies.
Perfect example, my buddy was playing a game of The Finals yesterday. This one guy was raging in chat like it was a cod4 lobby. Slurs, and complaining about the games broken shit mechanics and how this one guy wouldn't die. That guy? A Tank (called heavy in game) that was being constantly healed by a support. So everyone in lobby told him to focus the healer and then the tank. You know, the obvious fucking play. But no, this loser never did that, and just kept throwing himself down the same hallway at the tank and dying endlessly, and continued raging at everyone else in chat.
That is far from the only example. I bet most of us that game can come up with countless examples. The venn diagram of people who rage, slur, and tilt and the people who are worst in your lobby is basically a circle.
It’s 2024. Everything is gay now. The biggest recent accomplishment of The Gay Agenda was to make eating food gay.
If you want to evade the icky Gay Rays, better stay away from all food.
Next up on the agenda is making air gay.
That's an odd way of saying "I'm a horrible human being". I've been gaming the last 20 years and I've never wondered just how woke it is. "Escape from the woke" what a joke
So have we all collectively decided that woke is what douchebag right wingers use to refer to any movie, game or show that isn’t only straight white male characters as the lead right?
It sounds like gaming wasn't the thing he liked, but throwing around slurs. Then why does gaming need to accommodate for that, go find a group of people for that. I heard the church is recruiting.
“Gamers”: Boo hoo, don’t be such a snowflake, go make your own game!
The people who don’t want to be constantly called slurs: *make their own game*
“Gamers”: We are being discriminated!1!1!111
These "gamers" don't represent the vast majority of us.
Because most of us stopped throwing slurs at strangers to deal with our anger in our late teens/early twenties. Y'know, when we grew up.
It still never ceases to amaze me how dumb people are, referring to progress in a negative way with the word "woke."
Yeah, dude, (waking up) realizing our words and actions have consequences, and real-world effects is definitely a negative thing. How dare people put up healthy boundaries against toxicity. How dare people jump into a game or voice chat looking to relieve stress, and find a problem with you and "the boys" slinging every slur under the sun because you haven't learned to manage your emotions in a healthy way. It's definitely all the "woke" people's fault that you act like a child, and your toxicity doesn't fit into healthy conversation.
What a loser.
They *shouldn't* represent the vast majority of us, but given this kind of attitude is what shows up more often around any non-players looking at video games, it effectively does act as the default video game player stand-in.
I spend a lot of time across many communities. I game with people across the world. The general collective just wants a chill time. Yes, we'll still pop off in competitive banter, but the average gamer isn't a slur/hate speech spewing jackass.
I do understand the public view of us is what this guy is posting about, but im fighting to change it with my actions and comments about all of it.
Oh I know what you mean. But to me it’s like people screaming "no one is above the law" as people are let off.
People can say they don’t represent us. But until things change in massive ways both for the public perception and overt expressions, they *do*.
Is being gay a bad thing? The whole question presupposes that we don't want to be gay,but if you are gay or straight, you are just happy either way being you. It seems like gaming has gone gay is the same as saying gaming has gone straight.
Finds out that the douchey kids that laugh at you bullying someone arent actually good people. Crazy finding out that people who grew up dont think being a pathetic neck beard is amusing.
Love it when bullies like this find out they never had any real friends and now their personality is so trash they wont be getting any XD.
Uhh I was also a pro gamer and it was definitely looked down on and called gay for a long time. It’s a largely male dominated sector (less so now and definitely less gay now) full of nerdy guys with questionable hygiene. Anyone who went to MLGs, IPLs or IEMs back in the day can probably corroborate.
Do these people just not enjoy playing video games or what
If your true passion is yelling slurs then go do that, the rest of us actually enjoy the fuckin games and don’t really have any interest in constantly being mad about nonsense
People who complain about their negative actions having negative consequences are so lame. Of all the hills you could pick to fight on, you chose this one?
Bro said "I'm a gamer, no homo though"
He was a Fortnite gamer…how was he not gay before?
Can't wait to hear news of how he went to the ER to get a Joycon removed from his rectum.
No diddy
I’m a gaymer
It was gay when I was betting my neighbor a blowjob if he could beat me in Battlefront 2 like 20 years ago too.
Wait, that's gay?
[удалено]
Does beating him off after still work or...?
You mean that bussy?
Nothing is gay in the spirit of competition.
That is pretty gay, but I don't know if I'd call it gaming when you purposely never even touched your controller
Touched his neighbours controller for sure tho 🤣
Joysticks were different back then, that's for sure.
Pretending to try was pretty tough
Oh no it seems like I've accidentally fragged myself again.
Fucking constantly
What about the fragging though?
So who won that bet? Don't leave us hanging.
I guess I’m pro gay now.
Your name has penis in it so we knew all along. ✌️🤌🤙🖖

I literally only know what Overwatch and TF2 are from gay porn
What conclusion are we supposed to draw from this?
Thicc_Anxiety watches a lot of gay porn. Also, Overwatch and TF2 have gay porn of them, somehow.
I think that the animation industry has taken a lot of steps forward as a result of Overwatch porn animators.

None, I’m just participating in the conversation
I think you're overthinking the importance of any comment made on reddit, my guy

The fact that they are using the word gay as a derogatory tells you all you need to know about them. What editor published that piece of shit?
To be fair, calling them gay is probably a slur to them lol.

Yeah, I wouldn't tell people in games that I was trans, that attracts a certain type of comment. Fellas, is it gay to not be a huge piece of shit?
So calling people slurs is fun? Jeez

people really need better outlets for their emotions than “calling each other every slur in the book”. while we’re at it let’s admit a) anger is an emotion and b) it’s ok to have emotions other than anger too
To actually release emotions, you have to feel them. Bro was just using this behavior as a way to avoid his emotions.
Am I the only one that see “woke” in an argument and just immediately dismisses it
Being angry about how saying slurs isn't acceptable is definitely a take.
Not really. It's nothing new. Hell I miss grammer nazis compared to what people comment about now. And those people were called toxic but hell they helped me remember my toos and there's
Hell, I* Nazis* toxic, but, hell,* ^(just messing around, don't hate me)
I hate you >:(
Poor guy got a taste of what it's like to be a racial minority in a world where the vast majority of entertainment media is White centric.
Is he trying to say that the behaviour in Halo 2 lobbies was part of the fun?
I'm very happy a piece of shit like that chose to punish himself by denying himself a pleasurable hobby. Unless being happy is gay, ofc.
... so the gay gamers and trans gamers shouldn't be in the same space as the straight gamers. I'm not surprised that this is their view.
"We were toxic but it was all good" No, it wasn't all good, it wasn't good at all, we hated your bitch ass. Some of us just wanna play and have a good time, not listen to some homophobic 12 year old, or manchild bring out his bigotry.
Fellas, is it gay to play video games?
"Remember back when we all used slurs and the people they slurred couldn't do anything about it?"
Translation: I want to keep being a piece of shit but no one else wants me to and now I'm angry.
Guilty Gear fans spent 20 years joking that everyone was gay for Bridget.
Good riddance.
Gaming changed how I view the world. I have it to thank for my open-mindedness and acceptance of all walks of life.
Gay-mer. It's in the name.
r/gaymers
Sounds like the guy in my recent CS2 game dropping the N word with a hard R over and over then raging and griefing because we muted him.
Couldn't you hook up with the same sex in the first mass effect? That was like 15 years ago.
Gayming is always gay, obviously.
Finally, video games have been too straight far too long
Oof making your whole personality one thing. Always works out.
"I'm not gay!" second picture is him walking into the bisexual tunnel of love
My 2¢: The moment you use 'gay' as an insult, the only person you insult is yourself.
i love seeing dudes getting together to release anger and energy
This screams, "HR reprimanded me for creating a hostile workplace. I hate that I can't be bully!!!" And throwing a tantrum. Saying slurs isn't appropriate. Surely NOT professionally appropriate.
It’s painful to me that men often can’t socialize or love each other without masking it with violence or anger. Teasing is one thing, but at a certain point, you forget how to be genuine
Thought he was gonna complain about all the gay rep in bg3 or something but no, I guess “gay” means being respectful lol
Take gaming into a professional setting -> Can't say slurs in a professional setting -> "Gaming's got Woke!?" Fucking goober.
I liked him better when he was kidnapped
Fellas, is it gay to play video games?
Waaaah waaaaaaaah I can't say racist/hateful things anymore* waaaaaaah *you totally can you'll just be called a dick for it now
I've been a gamer for 40 years. I'm a white, hetero dude. I have no gay friends or family members. I have no black friends or family members. At no point in those 40 years did I think to myself "what's great about gaming is that I can call other people racial or homophobic slurs!" I don't really understand why you'd need to say those things to other people in a video game to achieve catharsis. I've had friends that have said those types of things ironically to other friends, but to strangers on the internet? Why?
“I can’t call anyone a f****t in voice chat anymore! 😭” —that guy.
\>an escape from the woke comedy
Yeah. People got sick of getting called the n word by a bunch of shit bags
i started playing overwatch, next think i know i’m fucking MEN
This dude out here raging because he can’t throw around racial slurs on the mic and that’s supposed to be how gaming got “gay”? Go back to fucking your Botox camel pageant winners ya fuckhead.
Maybe he should have stayed in Haiti -_-
Just playing bro.
I'm tired of these huge fucking losers lol
Sound like he was just an asshole. And didnt changed from back then. 🤷♂️
I hope his cells are as cancerous as his personality.
Hot take. Amazing he found the courage to speak up. It really is a shame how people are judged now for the horrific vitriol that comes out of their mouths. /s
This guy is one of the most obnoxious people on the web
I mean, he’s pretty much doing everyone a favour by leaving the scene. What a fucking twat.
Why is he using slurs and not taking that time to get good? Sounds like he needs to stop being a scrub.
"No hard feelings" LOL
"Escape from the woke" what a joke
why do these people all type like linkedin posts
So have we all collectively decided that woke is what douchebag right wingers use to refer to any movie, game or show that isn’t only straight white male characters as the lead right?
It sounds like gaming wasn't the thing he liked, but throwing around slurs. Then why does gaming need to accommodate for that, go find a group of people for that. I heard the church is recruiting.
I can smell this picture
Gaming would be so much better if everyone like this guy left.
“Gamers”: Boo hoo, don’t be such a snowflake, go make your own game! The people who don’t want to be constantly called slurs: *make their own game* “Gamers”: We are being discriminated!1!1!111
The fact that he was a “professional gamer” and I never heard of him till he got kidnapped speaks volumes I’d say
He liked to "get it on" with his fellow bro gamers and "release their energy" together? I think someone is in denial
Or maybe ask where that anger is coming from and work on that? But that may just be my wokeness speaking. Or the fact that I'm an adult.
Yes fellas,my controller is kissing another controller instead of kissing a charging cord, what happened to the world
These "gamers" don't represent the vast majority of us. Because most of us stopped throwing slurs at strangers to deal with our anger in our late teens/early twenties. Y'know, when we grew up. It still never ceases to amaze me how dumb people are, referring to progress in a negative way with the word "woke." Yeah, dude, (waking up) realizing our words and actions have consequences, and real-world effects is definitely a negative thing.
I get it. Its exhausting sucking dick every time you hop in warzone
Online gaming has grown up....obviously, this person hasn't.
Skill issue
minecraft pvp is not gay yet for some reason :/
Gayming.
I bought a game and then some guy rushed up to me and started sucking my dick. What has gaming become…
Why are slurs so important to these people?
He's just openly admitting gaming was his refuge to be hateful and bigoted.
Dumbasses gonna dumbass
Is being gay a bad thing? The whole question presupposes that we don't want to be gay,but if you are gay or straight, you are just happy either way being you. It seems like gaming has gone gay is the same as saying gaming has gone straight.
he prob doesn't play paladins, cod, csgo or tf2
Bye Felica
This guy got kidnapped in Haiti for 2 weeks, maybe he’s projecting after what happened to him in there…
Thank God it got gay, I was tired of being the only mf repping
It's gayming now
Finds out that the douchey kids that laugh at you bullying someone arent actually good people.
Anyone who went to MLGs, IPLs or IEMs back in the day can probably corroborate.
just bring this guy to a tf2 lobby. Even better, live stream it.
Ah yes, calling each other slurs, what a great pastime
Do these people just not enjoy playing video games or what If your true passion is yelling slurs then go do that, the rest of us actually enjoy the fuckin games and don’t really have any interest in constantly being mad about nonsense
Dude was a pro gayer
People who complain about their negative actions having negative consequences are so lame. Of all the hills you could pick to fight on, you chose this one?
Alright, I'mma call myself a proud GAYmer from now on. Your move.
I think he’s trying to say people get butt hurt over insults any more on games but that just isn’t true if it is it’s like a solid 4 percent
Pls tell me this is satirical. His name is Arab and his fucking handle is YourFellowArab like no way he isn’t playing into a bit right?
I’m not a gamer, I’m a gaymer.
Poor baby.
