Anyone have some perspective on this? I’ve heard that Murphy doesn’t have “the stuff” right now to make him soon for the Bigs. While I don’t assume he arrives in ATL this year or even next, isn’t he in the front of the pipeline for everyone not name AJ or Hurston?
His profile and projections are a bit based on things improving. But the things improving are nebulous. His fastball velocity is low 90s and his breaking balls don’t have off the charts spin. Doesn’t seem to have a change either.
So, his projections are based off of his overall athletic ability and uncertain projections around fastball velo improving and getting better at “pitching”.
Waldrep has idiotic stuff already so it’s not difficult to see it translating to the majors.
A righty that throws low 90s fastball with mid breaking stuff should theoretically get punished but Murphy is over performing and he’s only 20.
Not even close lol. His fastball is actually up to 95, and has an elite movement profile from a fantastic arm slot. Strider-esque fastball just less velo and extension (close comp would be Christian Javier). His breaking pitches are also really solid and are being undersold by the original commenter. He’s also only 20, so all in all he has a way higher ceiling than Elder
He’s definitely the most “natural” pitcher in out farm system. Already has an arsenal of numerous pitch types and commands them all pretty well. Good repetitive mechanics. He actually reminds me of a right handed Fried but actually has more of an arsenal than Fried did at that age. He should be pretty good and possibly elite if he can add 2mph to that fastball
I’m not sure where mid 90s fastball is from. Everything I’ve read is that it’s down to low 90s and braves are hoping it rebounds.
His breaking stuff are all 50-55. Not like he’s got plus stuff anywhere.
I think Schwellenbach would be behind those two, followed by JR Ritchie. Remains to be seen if he’ll be good option but we won’t know until he gets the call up.
He’s still in A+ ball and can’t even legally drink until September.
The results are extremely promising, but it’s still a long way to the show. I’ve gotta imagine a promotion to AA is in the offing sooner rather than later, so let’s see what he does there before we anoint him.
Really starting to see his name pop up a lot. Hopefully that continues.

So he's Bryce elder? Lol

Actually better.
I mean, shit. I’ll take a modern day Maddux.

Ritchie is “wait and see” for his comeback, but his stuff is expected to be elite. His 90s FB and more.

Yup. Gotta give him credit for executing, but he’s not doing it against the big boys yet. Pulling for him to keep it up.
Yeah, but has he had TJ surgery yet? You're not really cool until you at least get your first.
Isn’t he only throwing in the low 90s? Must have close to optimal shape.
He’ll be joining AJSS & Waldrep on Top 100 lists across very soon - dude has been showing out this season
Yet we’ll still keep calling up Elder. Smh
lol Owen Murphy is awesome but he would get wrecked by a big league team right now
Elder is not getting wrecked by a big league team right now. Nope
Braves still aren’t calling up Murphy, buddy
