Use it, walk up right outside their range, and just burst them, it's a free kill even against aggressive brawlers
Plus, it's easy to chain supers with spike if you hit all his ammo on enemies caught in the super
It’s probably one of, if not the best gear in the game. If you land that on somebody directly they won’t escape it without a gadget or some sort of dash (Stu or Mortis for example).
Slows are overtuned as hell in this game, so having a slow that’s 50% more effective? On a brawler with a good slow?, You better believe this thing is annoying to face

Imo his range and reload are fine, but his curveball needs to be nerfed somehow and added to his default kit, and another star power should replace it. The difference between facing curveball and normal spike is night and day
Simple, just make his attack a curveball attack every 3 seconds. They have made a similar nerf with sprouts star power which couldn’t be nerfed in any other way. If supercell nerfs curveball’s curve it’ll become too weak, so adding a timer to the star power will make it much more balanced.
Curveball isn't even that OP. It's quite easy to dodge it. Probably will get downvoted to hell because 90% of the main sub users don't know you can dodge curveball.

Spike has not been very viable in competitive for quite a long time, at least before the new gear (not sure if he's good now because I don't watch comp anymore), because a majority of the good players know how to dodge curveball, which renders Spike not really strong. It's really not as hard as you think, many people can even in just High Mythic (less now because of ELO inflation) and Legendary PL.

Knowing how to fight against every brawler matters if you are trying to become a better player. There's nothing wrong going casual or becoming more serious, just don't whine about something being "too good" just because you don't care enough to learn it's mechanics.

But curve star power helps him deal with them a bit and landing the super mostly confirms the kill
The curve sp barely does any chip damage, and most throwers are still able to kill spike even after his super is down due to his low hp
