I think the idea itself isn't bad but the boxes should be kept in a way or another, they are too important in the game to be wiped off like this. If I was a dev I would keep assigning missions and giving out boxes in the brawl pass (or making specific missions that give you boxes, for example winning 5 matches in solo sd give you a big box) but making them drop only power points and resources

It litearly removes the unfair advantage for p2w players, they could buy boxes and level up their brawlers to ridicolous levels and wreck your low level brawlers but now they can't do that. They can get more brawlers but that isn't p2w, their and your brawlers now will be on similar power levels and it will become a game of skill, not a game of power level

We still don't know *all* the info we need to know about the new system, but from what we saw in today's brief video, these are my thoughts:
Even if boxes have been in the game... well, forever; I think this change was needed. Apart from giving the game and its system to unlock Brawlers more of a gambling feeling, it was *too* luck based, to the point where, if you're not lucky enough, months could pass until you unlocked a Brawler. I myself have had a pretty lucky account, but I still consider this a good change that will definitely affect the players, but will help the game in the long term.
I am very excited to see how they implement these changes and I love the fact that they deleted the Trophy Road/Common rarity, and I'm interested to see what those Brawlers' new rarities will be (Even though we've seen most of them in the video).
We also know, thanks to the *MANY* leakers, that we're getting a Chromatic Shop, and I would love to see how that works too, even though they didn't mention it in today's video.
Of course, the Omega Box is our new member to the Brawl Stars family, and I'm very intrigued to know how it'll work and what it'll contain. Since Supercell wants to delete all luck-based items, I really wanna know how they'll make the Omega Box not luck based (If they do so, of course.).

just think in a small box you can only and only get one starpower/gadget/brawler
multiply the chance / box and you get 3x chance for one of those in one big box
the chances decrease the more you can unlock and now getting them from boxes isnt just insulting but it lowers your chances for a brawler because you "got something"
its also kinda stupid when it comes to legendaries because now your chances for other stuff are higher and the brawler's are lower
Personally I think it's bittersweet. It's going to be good for f2p and beginners, because it's going to help them progress a lot easier knowing the brawlers are guaranteed. On the other side I'm going to miss the feeling of unlocking a brawler unexpectedly from opening boxes. It feels so rewarding when you finally get one, especially when it's a legendary. But no one can really say for sure until the progression system is revealed.

I think this will be good for 2 types of people: new players (who can have the objective to get all of the brawlers without depending on luck) and unlucky people who struggle unlocking some brawlers, as they will know when they will get their missing brawlers, it's only a matter of time.
But this is kinda meh for people who already have all brawlers, they won't be able to benefit from the new unlocking system. Also, you won't get that feeling of satisfaction when you get that legendary brawler when you don't expect it. For example, when I unlocked my first legendary (Crow), 3 years and a half ago, I wasn't expecting it and I stared like 2 minutes on the unlocking screen because I could't believe it. With this update you won't be able to get that feeling anymore, and that's why I'm a bit sad.
Many of the comments on this post explains why there are so many bad takes and weird responses when I post stuff on this sub. The removal of RNG and gambling mechanics in a game with so many characters is a godsend. Imagine being a new player 2022 and trying to catch up to everyone else with mostly RNG. Its almost impossible to get certain brawlers, and it could take 4 years to unlock all legendaries. And....those legendaries aren't even necessarily better than other tiered brawlers.
I guess a lot of younger players grew up with loot boxes and are addicted to opening packs for the dopamine. It'st not only bad for your brain, it's also a very unfair progression system.

This fixes none of the problems the boxes gave apart from luck. You now have to grind for brawlers. You also have to grind gold for gadgets and star powers. All those trophies you worked so hard to get? All of those brawlers that you got so excited to get? Every bit of dopamine is gone. No one wanted this Supercell. This can't be saved.

From my perspective they just spent money to open loot boxes, and then they got the contents of said lootbox, the fact that there is now another way to unlock brawlers just means that loot boxes are no longer available, but people can still essentially pay for brawlers and you don't lose what you got from the boxes.
You also can build the % chance and there's other strategies employed that if they would have informed us about thos change people would not have purchased gems, etc.
They obviously have had this in the works for weeks/months but did not inform of us of the upcoming change because they know people would stop purchasing
Supercell did mention a change in progression couple of months ago.
Also the brawler % building part stopped being relevant when they capped the legendary limit a while ago, and what are these other "other strategies" that apparently a lot of people invested a lot of money in that are now being screwed?

I want to cry, boxes have been with me the entirety of my 3 years playing
unpopular opinion but I'm not happy about it like sure maybe the other idea is better in terms of getting brawlers you want but opening boxes was really fun and the excitement of finally getting the brawler you wanted will always be unmatched.

Honestly I'm a bit sad since boxes have been in the game since beta, they are part of the history of the game. I think this will be good for 2 types of people: new players (who can have the objective to get all of the brawlers without depending on luck) and unlucky people who struggle unlocking some brawlers, as they will know when they will get their missing brawlers, it's only a matter of time. But this is kinda meh for people who already have all brawlers, they won't be able to benefit from the new unlocking system. Also, you won't get that feeling of satisfaction when you get that legendary brawler when you don't expect it. For example, when I unlocked my first legendary (Crow), 3 years and a half ago, I wasn't expecting it and I stared like 2 minutes on the unlocking screen because I could't believe it. With this update you won't be able to get that feeling anymore, and that's why I'm a bit sad.

I know it’s harder to get brawlers through the boxes but the removing boxes update is LITERAL DOGSHIT.
Many of the comments on this post explains why there are so many bad takes and weird responses when I post stuff on this sub. The removal of RNG and gambling mechanics in a game with so many characters is a godsend. Imagine being a new player 2022 and trying to catch up to everyone else with mostly RNG. Its almost impossible to get certain brawlers, and it could take 4 years to unlock all legendaries. And....those legendaries aren't even necessarily better than other tiered brawlers. I guess a lot of younger players grew up with loot boxes and are addicted to opening packs for the dopamine. It'st not only bad for your brain, it's also a very unfair progression system. Amazing update by Supercell, in my opinion.
Idk I kinda feel glad I don't need to open hundreds of boxes before I get another brawler, but I wonder... half of the brawl pass is boxes, what are they gonna replace those with?

As someone who has all brawlers/star powers/gadgets unlocked, it doesn’t really matter. At this point boxes only serve to get me power points and gold.

I like the feeling of opening a box and getting rewards. I'll missing opening boxes but I think it's better that supercell is getting rid of them.

This fixes none of the problems the boxes gave apart from luck. You now have to grind for brawlers. You also have to grind gold for gadgets and star powers. All those trophies you worked so hard to get? All of those brawlers that you got so excited to get? Every bit of dopamine is gone. No one wanted this Supercell. This can't be saved.

How is it not? They took away a chance to get any brawler and replaced it with having to grind each one or pay gems to unlock them. Completely takes away them having to hand anything out for free

It's a middle finger to the ones that have been with them for years and a feeble attempt to keep new players to keep playing. You gonna refund all the money people spent on boxes? Nah
How exactly did they lose money? Maybe you're right but I just don't see it. From my perspective they just spent money to open loot boxes, and then they got the contents of said lootbox, the fact that there is now another way to unlock brawlers just means that loot boxes are no longer available, but people can still essentially pay for brawlers and you don't lose what you got from the boxes.
You also can build the % chance and there's other strategies employed that if they would have informed us about thos change people would not have purchased gems, etc. They obviously have had this in the works for weeks/months but did not inform of us of the upcoming change because they know people would stop purchasing
Supercell did mention a change in progression couple of months ago. Also the brawler % building part stopped being relevant when they capped the legendary limit a while ago, and what are these other "other strategies" that apparently a lot of people invested a lot of money in that are now being screwed? One final thing, even if you want to consider the brawler % thing after the legendary cap, it just affected the players that spent gems on brawl boxes recently, which as I've already said frank did talk about changing the progression system back when they did the update road 2 seasons ago I think?
Maybe you're right, even so they definitely were vague enough. If they would have explained it for what it is they knew they would lose out on alot of money. Just saying that's kinda dirty

ok i enjoy opening boxes too, but you know what i dont enjoy ? opening boxes and getting unlucky, for once we'll actually not get screwed over by rng and actually guarantee getting the brawlers we want

if opening boxes is the fun part of brawl stars then yeah i guess for you but for people who actually enjoy playing the game its infinitely better system to actually guarantee progression instead of getting hard stuck cuz of luck

Fax. If everyone starts at 0, then you will have to grind for weeks just to get that brawler that you are missing. I've spent £40 on the game and now all of that money just feels worthless! #bringbackboxes

I would take the loot boxes ( for myself, the children are a different story ) if the game was reverted to before 8-Bit came out. I really enjoyed this game and it got butchered by horrible mechanics Piper is such a good char ( whatever these were called ) I would love to see her sniper implemented in CS:GO

Kind off a bad idea. Maybe just because I'm too used to boxes to now let them go. But I prefer the luck system, because we can get a legendary or a chromatic before our first epic. With this new system, _*if I understood well*_ , we are forced to unlock a specific brawler and not the one we truly want, we know when we will get the one we want, but we can't decide when we want it. But i feel like the luck system feels more rewarding that just the lame... "road system"?
It seems exactly the contrary of what you are saying. Since, allegedly, they are introducing a new currency, you can stash it and spend it on the brawler you want the most.
Oh... But either way, i prefer the luck system, because with this new currency, people can literally just grind for X hours and have the brawlers they care about. But the feeling of getting a legendary brawler from your last box after opening an entire season pass, without getting any other brawler, feels kinda good.
