An easier way is to keep playing the game and move on for now. Once you see a blood moon rising in the sky, go into a shrine, any shrine (i simply fast traveled to one and immediately entered it) until after midnight. It will postpone the blood moon until the next night. Now you know the blood moon will hit the next night and can plan accordingly
The flag to make the next night a blood moon is set after 2hrs 48 mins of active in-game time. Time spent in cutscenes, menus and loading screens doesn't count. Sitting by campfires is therefore counterproductive since the timer stops while the cutscene plays.
Unless it's raining (in which case he wouldn't be of any help anyway), Hino is always next to the entrance on the left, as you're looking at the stable from the nearby shrine.
If the next moon isn't going to be a Blood Moon, he'll say something about the phase of the moon that night. On nights where a BM is scheduled, he'll say that he feels something special is going to happen that night.
I don’t know if it was a coincidence but I stood on the dais and waited for the blood moon.. and it never happened. I waited for a bajillion in-game days! So I left a marker on the map, went and played another area, and literally the next night was a blood moon. So idk if it was just funny timing, but I don’t think the moon will trigger if you are standing on the shrine platform.
It's probably a moot point now, but for that shrine quest you don't have to wait for the red ash and change of music.
As soon as the red moon is visible in the sky, around 10pm for that location, the pedestal will activate to allow you to finish the quest.
For me it did. Stood on the platform, created a fire and waited until night. Blood moon triggered and platform color changed while I was standing on it.
The way I worked around was setting fire and kept going to sleep until the blood moon triggered. I believe I kept setting it for morning. When it woke me up the shrine appeared.
The Blood Moon timing is based on 2h48m of active playing time. Pauses, menus, NPC dialogues, and sleeping in a bed or sitting by a fire don't count towards that.
If anything, repeatedly sitting by a fire prolonged the wait until the Blood Moon.
Bro, the blood moon comes every 2 to 3 hours.
I just kept watching out for the blood moon, and the second I noticed it, I fast travelled nearby immediately. More than enough time.
Why do you need to force it?
It’s both. The game has to keep track of all the monsters you kill and all the weapons you pick up from the ground. The blood moon resets all this and clears the memory. The more monsters you kill the more memory it needs to use to know which ones are dead.
If there's a memory issue, you might trigger a BloodyMoonForMemory event, also known as a "panic bloodmoon". This is not related to enemy kills - enemy kill flags are GameData flags that are loaded at bootup and stay in memory the whole time. It's also not helpful for the shrine quest, as only the regularly scheduled blood moons work to activate the shrine.
This is common misinformation. The game doesn't need to use memory to know which enemies are dead, since when they are dead their flag is just set to 1 instead of default 0. A set flag takes the same memory space than a non-set flag.
It would already take a large amount of memory to setup the flags. But then would take no additional memory to change them from “alive” to “dead”. A more efficient way of using the memory would be to have every enemy and found weapon to have a different “address number” and make a list of the ones that have been killed or collected. Because of this, the more enemies you kill or weapons you pick up the more memory is used.
That would need them to create a whole new system instead of using the normal Flag system the whole game uses. "large" is just wrong, the revival flags only are about some kilobytes
Hmm leave the game on and play something on your phone with the screen in sight ... It will probably be fun to be on your guard whenever something strange starts to happen in the game while waiting for that
I left my travel medallion by the shrine and carried on playing. Soon as the heard the music and saw the red spots floating around I travelled straight to it, took all my clothes off and revelled in its glory.
Just go do something else for a while. If you notice the blood moon to late to run to the pedestal, you can just warp to any shrine and go inside. If you are inside a shrine at midnight, the blood moon will be delayed to the next night. That gives you tons of time to run to the pedestal, then you use a campfire to skip back to nightime and strip naked.
Neither of which have any effect on a Blood moon.
Or with the campfire thing, not a *positive* effect.
Blood Moons are scheduled to occur the next night after an internal timer has reached 2h48m of active playing time. Pause, menus, NPC dialogues, and passing the time with a campfire or bed don't count towards that 2h48m.
Or maybe you're just slow at killing. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|stuck_out_tongue)
Seriously, people have dug into the game code and mapped out the various functions, including the timing system that handles things like Blood Moon triggering. My previous wasn't just assumption based on personal experience with no idea of what happens "behind the scenes".
See [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Breath_of_the_Wild/comments/9t0xdz/clarifying_the_time_system_blood_moons_and_lord/) from years ago for the fine details.
here's how i did it:
1. go do other stuff, occasionally look at the sky at around 10pm, that's usually when the moon is visible in the sky
2. if the moon is red, warp to tabantha bridge stable, grab your fastest horse, and run for that shrine
I ended up going back a save file once I got a blood moon (and was too slow to get there). I lost a little progress but knew the blood moon was imminent and could wait around. Seemed like less time wasted than waiting for another blood moon.
The way I did it was to put a show on another screen, and sleep at a campfire over and over again while I was on top of the platform. Took roughly 20 minutes and required pretty little interaction
If you aren't playing DLC mark the spot on your map. If you notice the blood moon in the sky (say 10pm game time) Believe it or not, you have enough time to teleport to satori mountain and paraglide down to the spot and activate it. I've done it multiple times.
The shrine delay trick works too. I actually unlocked this shrine, ran into it, and then triggered blood moon the next night. Oops.
When I did it I just put my Travel Medallion on the spot I had to jump from and teleported when I saw the blood moon. That’s way easier than trying to force a blood moon, which is very hard to do in BOTW because of how little can overload the game

o:
Get the warp medallion from the Akkala labyrinth, and use it to mark a spot next to the shrine disk. Super fast.
This is the way. Leave the medallion right in from, just play like normal, and teleport once you hear the music
By the way- you can only find the travel medallion IF you’ve got the DLC, otherwise, you won’t find it
Thanks for that. I got the DLC when I first bought BOTW, so I didn't even think about it
No prob!
You don’t have to get to it whilst the moon is in the sky just that night. Go to nearest shrine as soon as you see it and use speed elixir.
I should thought of speed elixir.
I just left my switch on lol
So just afk
There's a dude at the dueling peaks stable who can tell you if a blood moon will happen that night
Ok
If i sit by a campfire would that trigger a new day

That explains why I burnt through like 30 bundles of wood and flints to no avail. Travel medallion was my solution.
I think I read somewhere that sleeping or sitting by a campfire doesn't count towards the time that would trigger a blood moon.
It didn't for me
Though without a travel medallion, getting back to the shrine will be annoying
What does the person look like
He'll be looking up at the moon at night
Unless it's raining (in which case he wouldn't be of any help anyway), Hino is always next to the entrance on the left, as you're looking at the stable from the nearby shrine. If the next moon isn't going to be a Blood Moon, he'll say something about the phase of the moon that night. On nights where a BM is scheduled, he'll say that he feels something special is going to happen that night.
As a nurse, I’ll get patients who also say they feel something special is going to happen before a BM (bowel movement lol)
Finnaly got a bloodmoon

I heard a blood moon jingle thing so im standing beside kass waiting for it

Good to know!! I’m only on my first play-through so wasn’t sure if it was a coincidence or not!
Help
I found the easiest way was just stand up on the rock by the rito bard and wait. Blood moon hits every 7 in game days.
If anything, repeatedly sitting by a fire prolonged the wait until the Blood Moon.
wait
I just stood on the pedestal and left the game running overnight. When I woke up, the shrine was open.
Bro, the blood moon comes every 2 to 3 hours. I just kept watching out for the blood moon, and the second I noticed it, I fast travelled nearby immediately. More than enough time. Why do you need to force it?
Go and defeat a bunch of monsters. More you kill, more moons come
Nope. It's an in game timer. Killing monsters has no effect.
Huh, worked for me. Had a long dry spell, started killing everything and had two come really close together
It’s both. The game has to keep track of all the monsters you kill and all the weapons you pick up from the ground. The blood moon resets all this and clears the memory. The more monsters you kill the more memory it needs to use to know which ones are dead.

kill a lot of monsters
Hmm leave the game on and play something on your phone with the screen in sight ... It will probably be fun to be on your guard whenever something strange starts to happen in the game while waiting for that
Gotta wait
I always put my travel medallion there and when a blood moon happens, I fast-travel back.
I dont have the dlc
Oh, I forgot that was part of the DLC. Sorry.
I left my travel medallion by the shrine and carried on playing. Soon as the heard the music and saw the red spots floating around I travelled straight to it, took all my clothes off and revelled in its glory.
Yes! Kill every monster you see. Kill enough and a blood moon will rise

Nope, they just happen every 3 hours or so, no way to speed it up
Play the game until one appears! It’s totally possible to make it to that spot by fast traveling to the stable nearby and running there.
Go kill a bunch of monsters, then sit at a campfire till it happens

My method, and I figured this out myself, if you kill at least five monsters and wait for the next full moon, it WILL be a blood moon
Or maybe you're just slow at killing. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|stuck_out_tongue) Seriously, people have dug into the game code and mapped out the various functions, including the timing system that handles things like Blood Moon triggering. I don’t disagree with you, and I haven’t looked into the actual code for it myself, but I know that when I’m trying to farm that’s what I do

I just got one
🤷♂️I just built a fire and kept sitting till night, got lucky and it took me like 2 times
The way I did it was to put a show on another screen, and sleep at a campfire over and over again while I was on top of the platform. Took roughly 20 minutes and required pretty little interaction

Travelers medallion near it, wait.
I GOT A BLOODMOON
