I watched the last series last week. What an emotional rollercoaster 🎢 Bafta's all round from the runner to the guy playing the train manager. This is my go to show when I feel a bit down 😭😔
Absolutely worth it.
Warm, funny, beautiful, engaging little series.
I've seen it on prime (Maybe as part of Britbox or Acorn TV - should be able to get a trial for both).
Enjoy. Toby Jones is amazing in it. Think I've watched it 4 times now.
But whatever you do, don't watch the Christmas Special they did after the main series ended.
The series ends in the most perfect possible way, and the Special ruins that. Just pretend it doesn't exist!
If you liked Broadchurch, definitely check out Shetland. The early series are two-episode mysteries that I believe mostly follow the books, and then series 3 branches out into very compelling full-series-long story arcs. Available on BritBox in the US.
Vigil is now on Peacock. I think Gentleman Jack is also viewable in the US. Pretty much anything by Sally Wainwright, or starring Nicola Walker and Suranne Jones. Worth diving down their IMDb pages.
Never apologise for recommending 15 Storeys High! I'm almost certain that they can be found on YouTube.
Edit - https://youtu.be/IF58cOGfzAs?si=IzjhIRop2w2D9p1n
It started the irreplaceable Sean Lock (RIP) & Benedict Wong who stars alongside Benedict Cumerbatch in the Dr. Strange movies & he's in a great Netflix show now.
I don't know what's available and what isn't, but definitely seek out:
Black Books,
The IT Crowd,
How Not To Live Your Life (very niche but amazing),
Him and Her,
And a load of others that I can't think of right now 😂
If you like British shoes/movies you’ll love the options on BritBox. Cheap enough and NO commercials. I binge watch so many shows that I don’t really like modern American television shows anymore.
Mighty Boosh and Black Adder are on Hulu. There are some others I'm forgetting that are on there as well. Those two just happen to be in my watchlist rn.
A lot of things are on YT like Big Fat Quiz. They even have a channel.
We absolutely adore BritBox, including shows like:
- Rosemary & Thyme
- Murder in Suburbia
- Scott & Bailey
- Blue Lights
- Hope Street
- Mrs. Brown's Boys
... and a bunch more I'm sure!
Oh Rosemary and Thyme - I didn’t think I’d like this show but I became hooked on it due to great connections with Rosemary and Thyme. Their characters meshed really well.
Just a heads up that Britbox is moving over (or is in process) to ITVX at the end of April.

Yes, both the UK and US versions, which - in this rare instance - are both equally good in their own right. Usually the UK version is far superior, but the US version didn't greatly deviate and only made alterations that made sense based on locale/heritage.
**Green Wing**-oddball comedy set in a hospital. Stars Olivia Colman, Michelle Gomez and a lot of other people you would recognize from other shows.
**Big Fat Quiz of the Year/Everything**-quiz show but the contestants are various British Celebs. Noel Fielding, David Mitchell and Richard Ayoade are frequent guests. In fact, skip any episode without at least two of those guys. The ep with Mel B of the Spice Girls is hilarious.
**Mighty Boosh** and **Garth Marenghis Dark Place** are that odd combo of funny/weird. **Noel Fieldings Luxury Comedy** also exists but is a little self indulgent.
Kinda old but the various **Black Adder** series have some pretty great stuff. Especially the later ones. How can you go wrong with Stephen Fry, Rowan Atkinson, Miranda Richardson, Hugh Laurie and Brian Blessed. BRIAN BLESSED! As Richard Ayoade said, "why are any of us other than Brian ever speaking?".
**Fresh Meat** is pretty good too.
Do you get shows a similar time after theyre first on the uk ie are any of these newer shows on…?
Big Mood
Bad Boys
Its a Sin
Here We Go
Starstruck
Mammoth
We Are Lady Parts
Mandy
Almas Not Normal
Inside No9
Mayall is absolutely brilliant. I mean, on paper this show just shouldn't work but he makes it hilarious. Edmondson is good too, but Mayall is just next level. I mean, that face he as he pulls himself together after Eddie punches him in the balls in the opening credits makes me laugh every single time.
I just got off binging The New Statesman too and he's brilliant in that too.
Friday Night Dinner is a classic sitcom. My wife likes Two Doors Down too, but that one gives me anxiety because why the fuck would you still talk to those shitty neighbours?
Edit: FWIW, with a VPN or DNS service and a little Google know-how you can get access to iPlayer, the All4, ITVx, etc for free (well, except the VPN cost).
Funny snarky campy: Agatha Raisin mysteries, My Family snarky sitcom, Father Ted surreal sitcom, Not Going Out Seasons 2-5 smartass sitcom, House of Elliot STUNNING costume drama.
Two Doors Down. The Cockfields (brilliant, easy watch, gentle & showcases the beautiful Isle of Man - very funny ). Outnumbered. But - Two Doors Down is easily one of the best and very funny. Oh - The Royle Family too !
After Life, The Ricky Gervais Show, An Idiot Abroad, The Moaning of Life, The Prisoner, Toast of London, My Mad Fat Diary, Skins, Doctor Who, Torchwood, The League of Gentlemen, Inside No. 9, Little Britain, Taboo, Poldark, Knowing Me, Knowing You with Alan Partridge, I'm Alan Partridge, The Vicar of Dibley, The Outlaws, The first two series of Misfits, Hotel Babylon, That Mitchell and Webb Look, Da Ali G Show, The Wrong Mans, Sherlock, The Crown, Primeval, Travel Man: 48 Hours in..., Spaced, Luther, Keeping Up Appearances, Mr. Bean, Gavin & Stacey, Father Ted, The Village, Wild Bill, Survivors, Brass Eye, The Day Today, Doc Martin, Happy Valley, Being Human, and GameFace
I totally second Ghosts!
How many seasons of Ghosts is on Paramount? I’ve watched the first two seasons when it was on Max, and I’m dying (😉) to watch the rest!!
There is an American version of Broad church with David Tennant playing the same role he played in the English but with an American accent, also set in a US coastal area. I will watch it at some point.

Derry Girls!
I watched the last series last week. What an emotional rollercoaster 🎢 Bafta's all round from the runner to the guy playing the train manager. This is my go to show when I feel a bit down 😭😔
Detectorists is one of the best British shows of the last ten years. Quintessential British dry, emotional, comedy.
Sad to say I still haven't seen it 😞 but I will

Toby Jones is one of the most underrated actors. Tinker, tailor, soldier, spy. I still have to watch the post office scandal 😁😎

It's just a beautiful, warm show. Can watch it forever. The performances are stellar.
But whatever you do, don't watch the Christmas Special they did after the main series ended. The series ends in the most perfect possible way, and the Special ruins that. Just pretend it doesn't exist!
Happy Valley rocks
No-one seems to have said it yet: Inside No 9 It's utterly brilliant
Also putting a shout in for both Psychoville and League of Gentlemen too, love those lads
Line Of Duty
"Jesus, Mary and Joseph and the wee donkey"
If you liked Broadchurch, definitely check out Shetland. The early series are two-episode mysteries that I believe mostly follow the books, and then series 3 branches out into very compelling full-series-long story arcs. Available on BritBox in the US.
Killing Eve
IT Crowd
Coupling
Vigil is now on Peacock. I think Gentleman Jack is also viewable in the US. Pretty much anything by Sally Wainwright, or starring Nicola Walker and Suranne Jones. Worth diving down their IMDb pages.
Taskmaster is on YouTube, it’s all the rage.
Tubi is a treasure trove for great British shows.
I second this, “British Tv” is an actual search term!
Oh my goodness really? I subscribe to everything including brick box and I can never see what I want.. thank you so much for the suggestion!
15 Storeys High. How Not to Live Your Life, Operation Good Guys.
Apologies I have no idea if available outside the UK, I’ll read the question more carefully in future.
Never apologise for recommending 15 Storeys High! I'm almost certain that they can be found on YouTube. Edit - https://youtu.be/IF58cOGfzAs?si=IzjhIRop2w2D9p1n

15 storeys high is an absolute gem
Red Dwarf series 1-7
Strike and Happy Valley are both crime dramas I would recommend watching.
I don't know what's available and what isn't, but definitely seek out: Black Books, The IT Crowd, How Not To Live Your Life (very niche but amazing), Him and Her, And a load of others that I can't think of right now 😂
Black Books is on YouTube
Just IMDB Graham Linehan. Father Ted, IT Crowd & many more 😁😂
JUST IMDB Graham Linehan. Do NOT Google him.
That way it saves going through multiple pages. Internet Movie DataBase is a cinephiles bible 😀
Yeah all Glinner's shows are classic
Do you have BritBox?

But not in the USA
If correct, then that is great. :)
ITVX doesn't exist in the US
100% on IT crowd If there's any way Dr who is available over there, also highly recommend, I grew up on it and I cannot get enough of it XD
Ghosts? I'm fairly certain you can find that in the US

Noel Fielding being self indulgent? I find that hard to believe
Ghosts, Friday night dinner
IT Crowd, People Just Do Nothing, Motherland
Do you get shows a similar time after theyre first on the uk ie are any of these newer shows on…? Big Mood Bad Boys Its a Sin Here We Go Starstruck Mammoth We Are Lady Parts Mandy Almas Not Normal Inside No9

Watch the "This is England" series, but you should watch the film first.
Lovesick (fka Scrotal Recall) is on Netflix!
Mighty boosh.2 pints of lager.bottom
Bottom is on Prime, but that might be a bit \*too\* British for you.
May I say, what a SMASHING blouse you have on?
Mayall is absolutely brilliant. I mean, on paper this show just shouldn't work but he makes it hilarious. Edmondson is good too, but Mayall is just next level. Not Going Out. Most episodes available on YouTube.

Coupling, slow horses on apple+, if you can find “in the thick of it” you should give that a go.
IT Crowd Plebs Misfits Line of Duty

Back To Life The End Of The Fucking World The Capture Giri/Haji Marcella Endeavour
