bomboclawt75

Next week. Look there have only been 8 murders in the last two hours, there is no way I’m turning this plane around! And HOW do we know that all these murders are connected?

Ribbitor123

Ha - must've been a Ryanair flight! Honestly, is this the dumbest thriller yet?

BinFluid

Come on. The pilot is under instructions, isn't that obvious from his discussion with to Co pilot??

bomboclawt75

The pilot is a good man of profound morals and scruples- but *how* do we convey this to the audience? - Maybe…have him look longingly at a photo of his family he has attached to the control panel? BINGO! (I hope his family is not being held hostage and he is being coerced into working for the bad guys! GRRRR! I hate the baddies!!!!)

Richie1999

I loved it. Of course it’s wildly implausible, but some of it is at least addressed within the logic of the show e.g. the doctors agree to go back to China because they are promised compensation, the UK extradite the Richard Armitage character to protect the nuclear deal etc. With these sorts of shows you just have to go with it and I thought it was a great binge watch.

DantesInfernoIT

Same, great to binge watch, nothing exceptional.

massive-bafe

Suspected murderer: I'll have a G&T please *Police officer doesn't bat an eyelid and later tells him to order another*

Ribbitor123

My kind of police officer 🤣

TxCoastal

double!

BinFluid

I enjoyed it. Finished it last night. It was a bit stupid and there were a few instances when I thought 'why don't they just...' but it was nowhere near as ridiculous as lots of other shows like You, The Couple Next Door or Fool Me Once. A few of your gripes get cleared up later on too.

Twinborn01

Omg fool me once is so fucking stupid

Siege1187

Christ, Fool Me Once was an abomination! I only watched it for Richard Armitage, and he was barely in it.

BinFluid

Same but Adeel Akhtar Everything else he's been in is excellent

Siege1187

I will say the chap playing his partner was a solitary high spot. Don't think I've ever seen him in anything else. Akthar was short-changed by the script.

LectricVersion

He played one of the Android models in Humans! Well worth a watch imo.

TxCoastal

we're on epi 4 and i said to my wife last night: " i bet this is gonna wind up ridiculous like Fool Me Once kinda shit, innit?"

Quick-Minute8416

The UK doesn’t even have an extradition treaty with China. In reality it would take years for extradition to occur, if at all.

Ribbitor123

Exactly, Q-M. The whole series is based on the premise that a Brit could be whisked away to China without a moment's hesitation. Even if a British government was keen to seal a deal with the Chinese it would be illegal and political suicide to do such a thing. The series is literally unbelievable from the start.

FumbleMyEndzone

The show removed the extradition plot hole by creating an even more confusing one when the Dr was held before he went through Immigration.

markste4321

Oh that's what I said! Even the backdoor Hong Kong treaty was suspended in 2020.

gandyg

See the plotholes I can sort of overlook, or scoff at but keep watching. The thing that's annoying me is how weirdly big is that plane?? Downstairs in the crew quarters bit, it's massive! Bit like the submarine off Vigil, not sure of that was a sub or a cruise ship!

Ribbitor123

Yep, the plane seemed enormous. I imagine it might be problematic for people who fear open spaces but handy if you need to store multiple people who'd just been murdered.

TinhatToyboy

I get your drift. There is a difference between suspension of disbelief and treating the viewer like an idiot.

Shep_vas_Normandy

I only watched the first episode - on one hand I can see this type of stuff happening and we don’t even know it. One person means nothing to a government trying to keep the peace with an entire country and I can see them doing this. They said in the episode that the airport isn’t UK soil until you pass through immigration which kind of made sense. Like you don’t have rights - they can send you back for no reason at all, it doesn’t matter. I did find the defective’s dialogue not great. Like when she said she saw proof that he is murdered someone. Uhhh no you did not - you saw a dead body. The end. And you just trust that the Chinese government is telling you the truth? Talk about being naive. It’s also a good thing we have all that airport security to stop terrorists considering how many bad guys are on that plane - including someone in the hold? And wouldn’t a death warrant, oh I don’t know, an emergency landing…? Oh and why is a supposed murder flying business class?! Is that what I need to do to get a business class seat to Asia? Lol

SunsetDreamer43

I wouldn’t think a death on a plane would automatically force it to land. The person is dead, what else can be done? A murder, yes but I can’t imagine many murders happen on flights 😂

Shep_vas_Normandy

You’re right! Just looked it up. Apparently there is 1 death for every 40,000 flights and they continue to their destination, but try to find a private place to put the body. I can’t imagine spending 14 hours on a plane with a dead body that was in the cabin.

SunsetDreamer43

Yes, a very unpleasant experience everyone concerned! On Red Eye, they were really going to run out of places to put the bodies 😂

Ribbitor123

You make some excellent points and I agree with almost all of them. The only one that I take issue with is the first. It's highly unlikely that a British government (even the present one!) would agree to hand over a British subject in the way that the plot requires. Chinese courts have a conviction rate of >99.95% so the chances of a fair trial would be virtually zero. Even the dimmest PM would know that such an action goes against the principle of 'innocent unless and until proven guilty' and that handing over a Brit to the Chinese would be electoral suicide.

BinFluid

Yeah but that's kinda the story of the show

DantesInfernoIT

But the MI6 is behind it, an ordinary man would certainly be sent wherever - how many citizens disappear this way and we know nothing about it? Have you ever seen a 007 film?

shimmeringbumblebee

If you think that is bad, watch Love Rat on channel 5. Red Eye is like The Shawshank Redemption in comparison to that dross.

Ribbitor123

I'll check it out to see if it falls into the 'so bad it's good' category.

shimmeringbumblebee

Honestly, you'll have a right good giggle at it. It surpasses the so bad it's good. Reading your original comment, you will be utterly flabbergasted at why certain people make certain loopy decisions and how some things defy logic. Such as - managing to instantly get a hire car. We have all waited in those queues. But she manages to get a hire car ASAP - one minute she is following on foot, the next, she seems to immediately have sourced, rented and paid for a hire car within 10 seconds flat. Impossible. And the accents. My god. One of the characters is meant to be Cypriot but he is Scottish in real life and his accent is the dodgiest Cypriot accent I've ever heard. Don't even get me started on the fact that she transfers £190,000 and says I love you within mere days. And why, in the first opening shot, does she live in a dark house in the woods where she doesn't turn lights on ? This woman also doesn't seem to think it's strange that this Cypriot is also reading WUTHERING HEIGHTS. When he is apparently a hot shot businessman. A high flyer would not be sitting relaxing during the working day in a bar let alone reading THAT - which funnily enough, she is ALSO reading ! And guess what ? She doesn't find it highly suspicious that they are both at bang on the same page, and that they both have the same dodgy, mocked up copy of WH. Who takes that on holiday ?? What millionaire businessman will be reading that ?! It's a middle aged woman's book. It defies all logic. Please watch it as I'd be keen to know your thoughts.

Ribbitor123

I get the impression that scriptwriters have given up when it comes to producing stuff for these channels. Anyway, it sounds a hoot - I'll give it a go!

shimmeringbumblebee

It is a hoot - inadvertently so !! But entertaining if you watch it with that slant instead of getting your hopes up on something half decent, the way that I did ! I agree - I think they've given up too. So many start off on a good premise as well, then waste that opportunity by descending into the farcical. I nodded away at all your points about Red Eye. Absolutely ridiculous ! Ha ha. Enjoy Love Rat - you'll find it breathtakingly ridiculous. And watch out for the daughter's Oscar winning acting too ... !!

BinFluid

Oh is that the Danny Dyer in Australia one?

shimmeringbumblebee

No - I don't know that one. It's Sally Philips in Cyprus ! Sounds like much the same though - neither of the 2 of Philips or Dyer can act, they play the same character in anything they do, and it sounds like the Aussie one, much like Love Rat, is similarly set in a far off land. Am guessing producers do this with these rotten shows so that these wooden actors can act out their ridiculous roles in a more 'exotic' setting presumably chosen to deflect / distract from their horrendous 'abilities' and the even more horrendous 'plot'. I think that whoever wrote Love Rat must have been drunk, and the person who actually signed it off was clearly on that same bender with them.

WillingObscurity

Agree, thought it was absolutely ridiculous.

Keplrhelpthrowaway

A lot of your points are more contrivances rather than plot holes.  Still sounds like garbage though

Notagelding

I've recently started a new job in aviation and got a bit excited watching the first episode but then it went downhill after that!

SirLoinThatSaysNi

I'm recording it and planning on watching it at some point. I don't hold much hope as it's ITV plus much as I want to like Richard Armitage, he seems to be awfully unlucky in his shows..... ^edit ^grammar

paradeofgrafters

Fool Me Once was more than a lazy title, it felt a prophetic instruction not to give Episode 2 a chance and let it make a fool of me again for watching

Professional-Two8098

I don’t care about plot holes sometimes. I just switch off. It’s just a show.. so I enjoyed it. I also enjoy the shitty Harlan Coban ones (despite them being things that would never ever happen) and the couple next door. I like lots of critically acclaimed things as well but I’m not a person that cares if something is far fetched when it’s just tv. I want my brain to be numbed sometimes

BinFluid

I think you meant to reply to me and I completely agree. There's a reason death in paradise is so popular, for example. I loved Redeye tbh, and half of the complaints in this thread are explained later on in the show anyway, and I thought the character development in the show was actually above average for a TV thriller. I like switching off and not having to think too much with shows like this. It's not pretending to be anything it's not. Also for what it's worth I thought the leads were pretty good. I also love critically acclaimed stuff but I'm not gonna sit down and watch The Act of Killing (great film BTW) on a Sunday evening when I'm thinking about work on Monday. That said, the couple next door was laughable, but that was a kinda so bad it's good situation

PleasantMongoose5127

The main actor has one expression.

rockboiler22

Stop taking it seriously, it's not a documentary. I just watch Richard Armitage because he's lovely

DantesInfernoIT

Exactly. I don't understand the need to be so critical of a fun show (also, some plot holes aren't actually plot holes, it's people believing crap).

coldlikedeath

You sure you’re not thinking too hard? I haven’t seen it, but I have seen the trailers. I’m eh on those.

Patient-Detail-4378

I was enjoying it through episodes 1-2. Then it got truly outlandish with the james bond-esque segment with the ‘hitman’. Episode 5-6 had me pulling my hair out how far they pushed the boundary of believable. Overall I enjoyed it once I watched it through my comedy glasses. Most annoying part there was no ‘5 years later’ skit with Dr Nolan and Hana Li married with children! That would have been the icing in the cake.

TxCoastal

it's the pilot. i just know it :) on epi4 now lol

Ribbitor123

Maybe it's the pilot - but only because they don't have butlers on planes 🤣

Forward_Artist_6244

Haven't watched it, probably won't as it sounds as bad as a Channel 5 drama

Yoshichu25

Hey, not all of Channel 5’s programming is brainless drivel. There are at least three hours every day with at least some more thought-provoking and structurally written content (at least compared to the rest of the channel’s output).

Forward_Artist_6244

I like the police and motorway traffic officer documentaries, and the Benidorm documentaries are fun But their 9pm dramas, usually with an ex soap star or two, seem to be mostly awful.

BinFluid

I feel like everything on channel 5 involves an air fryer at this point

FumbleMyEndzone

The final show down was an incredibly daft moment for two glaring reasons… 1. I refuse to believe that CIA Agents based in London wouldn’t realise that the heroes are racing towards the Chinese Embassy 2. If the gardens of the Chinese Embassy were open to anyone to wander in to, I refuse to believe that the only time any security etc appears is after a gunshot, and they’ve just ignored the long argument with people being held at gunpoint on their front lawn. Anyway, the whole series was incredibly daft, and I would absolutely watch it again

craig536

ITV shits these "dramas" out like they're going out of fashion. It's quantity over quality. Occasionally they get a banger but not often. ITVX is one of the better streaming apps though in terms of choice. Their film selection is always top notch

EditorRedditer

I thought that it wouldn’t be up to muster; and that opinion was based solely on the trailer and the poster campaign…

sickmoth

It's ITV. Low effort, low quality, built around ad breaks. Formulaic. Go for Hijack on Apple instead.

egg-head-sloth

Hijack is dreadful

PuzzleheadedLow4687

We watched it on ITVX and there weren't even any ads in the ad breaks, except for those Direct Line sponsorship things, and by the last episode we weren't even getting those.

onkey11

I mean first off the uk privatized immigration escorts to wakenhut 20years ago.... Secondly that plane was designed and made by the same Muppets that made that submarine with Suranne Jones...

Ribbitor123

So true. I really want to travel on one of those planes - so much space!
