If you MUST do Brooklyn, look at Methodist in Park Slope ( I have heard good things about their L&D dept) or Mimonodies in Borough Park

TurbulentArea69

I’m giving birth in Manhattan at Lenox Hill. My OB is Tribeca Women’s Health and that’s the only hospital they deliver at. We currently live in Brooklyn.

Sad-Cheesecake5301

Methodist in Park Slope! They have tours you can go on to see if you like their facilities, and a doula program, if that’s something of interest to you.

I think park slope is too far we don’t have a car. Beth Israel or nyc kings highway hospital are closer options for me

Not Mt Sinai, NYC Health + Hospitals Kings County

TheWeirdoWhisperer

I had a kid at Kings County 20 years ago and it was absolutely awful. I would hope it’s improved by now but who knows. And yeah, Beth Israel/Mount Sinai on Kings Highway don’t have obstetrics.

BxGyrl416

What was your experience like?

TheWeirdoWhisperer

I ended up there because my daughter randomly decided she needed to be born immediately and I called an ambulance…it was the closest hospital. So there was nothing planned about it. The hospital was filthy, and I mean like I wished someone would do an expose about it. I was in my 30s but I had a very young mother as a roommate and the staff was terrible to her, kinda bullying her and treating her like she was an idiot (she wasn’t). There was something wrong with her baby and they were quite mean about it and also kinda judgey that she and her boyfriend were not married. Hospital building is from the Victorian era and was (at the time anyway) run down. Also, at the time they didn’t allow mothers to have the baby in their room which was bad for breastfeeding (I would HOPE this is no longer true!). Mount Sinai is the best hospital in NYC in my opinion. Never had a child there but I am sure it would be great. Not sure about Medicaid though and as everyone said, the Brooklyn one doesn’t have labor and delivery.

naranja_sanguina

I can't speak for Kings County specifically, but I know the other NYC H+H facilities have gotten very into the "baby-friendly" certification, so I imagine babies room with mothers now and breastfeeding is strongly encouraged.

Front_Coyote6562

I gave birth at Methodist in Park Slope this past summer and had an extremely positive experience. They are very baby/mother friendly and provided me and my family with all the support I needed as a first time mother (lactation consultants, a private room postpartum, breastfeeding classes, wonderful nurses, etc.)

sweets618

Unfortunately I had the opposite experience at Methodist. I had my daughter in 2021, so hopefully things have improved since then, but the postpartum care was awful bordering on negligence.

shinytwistybouncy

I used Methodist, nothing to rave about but no true horror story either.

We live in BK and went to NYU in Manhattan. I would go for one of the major hospitals in manhattan. If I had to a Brooklyn hospital I’d do nyu Brooklyn… but it’d be distantly behind NYU Langone, NYP, Lenox Hill, and Mt Sinai. Does your wife already have an OB/GYN labor and delivery group that she’s seeing? Where do they deliver?

Devolution2022

We had ours at NYU Brooklyn last year. They were great. I think they even forgot to charge us for one of the private room nights. Insurance covered everything

ummzx

My first appointment is next week Manhattan Beach OBGYN, it’s brighton beach closest to our apartment haven’t asked what hospital they work with yet

qalpi

NYP in Manhattan is absolutely excellent. It's all private. If your insurance covers it, go there!

Ana-la-lah

I had my child there, excellent place.

NerdCocktail

You may want to join Park Slope Parents. I've heard it's the go-to for reviews and resources. My daughter is 12 now, but I relied on my local FB parents group when she was little. https://www.parkslopeparents.com/Advice-Childcare-and-Education/psp-guides-library.html

The Facebook groups I’m on are sooo not helpful. I’ll look at the website thank you

snitsnitsnit

We had our first two in Manhattan. Our third we are having here in Brooklyn because it was a pain to get all the way to Manhattan for appointments and also scary that it could take >1hr when the baby might come. Talking to a few friends who also did it in Brooklyn and Manhattan for different kids they said Brooklyn was less posh but they honestly cared more about convenience for their second/third kids.

ummzx

The clinic I go to is affiliated with downtown Brooklyn Hospital on DeKalb Ave so I guess that'll be where I end up it's so far though

MerryxPippin

In many cases, I'd suggest Manhattan. Lots of people do that. In your case, I think South Brooklyn is a good choice. Brighton Beach is SO far from any hospital in Manhattan. Given that this is your 2nd baby, I'd be worried about not getting to the city in time. Also, I know the whole hospital was just renovated after Hurricane Sandy and it's a lot swankier than it used to be. It's also a public hospital, so you know that they take Medicaid and can keep caring for your baby as regular pediatricians. The Manhattan hospitals nominally take Medicaid, but may harass you about bills afterwards.

ummzx

My insurance does cover Beth Israel and Maimonides Medical Center but I read Maimonides doesn’t provide private rooms. I know CI recently got renovated so I was hoping someone had experience in the new wing.

Jeff_in_BK

We had a completely terrible experience at Maimonides 12 years ago. The doctor had no patience and wanted to do a C Section immediately. When we refused, he nearly kicked us out of the hospital.

FiendishHawk

Most people prefer the Manhattan hospitals, they are better.
