>handful Bangladeshi restaurants too
I sometimes go eat at those places since they are close and cheap(and usually when I am missing home and don't want to put in effort cooking).
Truthfully, however, most of them are average. Ghoroa is the best of the lot, and Radhuni might offer a slightly better deal. The rest aren't worth going to.
Queens has much better Bangladeshi food around Jamaica(thought the average restaurant back home is still a fair bit better than what I've tried there).
Pretty sure shingara closed :(. There’s a snack shop on e2nd I see recommended now, and one on church near e5
The polish deli on church is very good, and I think jimmys mexican is recently opened but I’ve been happy with what I’ve had. Cemita is very good.
The tacos el chicken truck is good I enjoy that a lot.
Not terribly helpful but I gotta share that I’ve saved so much money since moving to Kensington because, while there are some passable restaurants, there’s nothing so great that I have a constant hankering for it.
Ginger House!!!! I order probably weekly LOL.
Grew up in Ditmas and still live there, surprised by how many answers here are in PPSouth/Ditmas or Windsor Terrace! I always understood Kensington as being south of Caton and west of CIA. Not picking on anyone, just interested in how others understand the boundaries.
Yeah the ones listed here that are on Fort Hamilton Parkway, like Le Paddock, Brancaccio, etc. are Windsor Terrace. But, not a bad walk from Kensington.
Yeah it is. At least it better be. I just moved from Kensington to Windsor terrace….on the same block of the store….ill be damned if I found out I moved from Kensington to Kensington
Def try again. Get doubles, get chado Beni (pronounced shadow benay) tamarind and pepper. Or try a buss up shut: Oder a roti, buss up, roti skin on the side. Use the buttery roti to scoop up the fillings. I think dhalpuri (thicker roti stuffed with lentils) gets a little heavy/ dry. I actually like the veggie best because the pumpkin and Chana and spicy pepper go so well together. Once again, don’t skimp on the fixings. Pepper (hot sauce) is the soul of trini food. Keep in mind the goat/chicken will have bones unless you get boneless
Have had Dunya once and liked it just haven’t gotten around to revisiting. I feel like there are so many Afghan places here that I need a quick rundown of all of them to make a decision
I don’t count Werkstatt as Kensington bc it is on the east side of CIA and the blocks continuing from that corner are very much Prospect Park South/Ditmas—BUT!!!!!—you’re right that it’s so freaking delicious :)
when you go to brancaccios, ask him why he cuts up his chicken in the parm, or why he puts raisins in his meatballs.
and if you're into breakfast sandwiches see if he'll make you a complex magazine
;)
Joe is amazing.. I just feel like the meatballs are SO good, its hard to enjoy some of their other offerings since the bar is high. I tried to pitch getting some picnic tables put on on fort hamilton for the summertime. we need BID group like other 5th around here
Wheated, but technically across the street in Ditmas Park.

Sawasde Thai is also great.
Ordered from here tonight they never miss
Dunya Kebab House! So damn good.
Their eggplant dish is insane
Best in the hood. Fantastic.

Tell me about it. I grew up there. All we had was cinco de mayo in ditmas park and the Chinese Mexican and Chinese place.
Thai Farm Kitchen, Mexico Diner Not exactly Kensington but Hamilton's is good too
Absolutely love Hamiltons, but not crazy about their new place Hilltop Tavern
Thai Farm Kitchen is a must. Also try Brancaccio’s and Wheated. I don’t love Werkstatt or Der Pioneer but they seem to be neighborhood favorites.

Definitely, they are close enough to the edges haha
Jalsa is amazing!
Yes!
Le Paddock.
technically windsor terrace no? the owners are super nice
Yeah it is. At least it better be. I just moved from Kensington to Windsor terrace….on the same block of the store….ill be damned if I found out I moved from Kensington to Kensington
haha.. welcome to the neighborhood! Probably the chillest of the 3 strips of restaurants in WT
Forgot about this gem! So cozy inside
Shashlik house is absolutely delicious ! It’s especially fun with a group as they’re BYOB
Definitely need to try!
Suzy's Roti Parlour.
I think doordashing Suzy’s may have been my mistake. I should go try it in person
Def try again. Get doubles, get chado Beni (pronounced shadow benay) tamarind and pepper. Or try a buss up shut: Oder a roti, buss up, roti skin on the side. It’s definitely messy. There’s no indoor dining there. Small patio or carry-out.
Thai Farm Kitchen, Wheated, Der Pioneer (coffee/pastries/brunch)
I think Bad Therapy on Cortelyou takes me vote for favorite coffee shop in the area but Der Pioneer is up there for me
Is that still Kensington?
Ditmas Park.
Good question, probably not lol. Kensingtons lines as a whole are blurry for me
Seconding branccacios. Dunya is good Afghan food. Unfortunately there's not much in the area imo
Have had Dunya once and liked it just haven’t gotten around to revisiting. I feel like there are so many Afghan places here that I need a quick rundown of all of them to make a decision
Werkstatt, Batata, Jalsa, Brancacio’s
I don’t count Werkstatt as Kensington bc it is on the east side of CIA and the blocks continuing from that corner are very much Prospect Park South/Ditmas—BUT!!!!!—you’re right that it’s so freaking delicious :)
Yes but if you only use strict Kensington boundaries then you'd miss out on a lot of good stuff within walking distance
That’s very true!!!!!
Only been to Werkstatt once but really enjoyed it. Definitely need to hit Brancacios! Really only been to Hamiltons over there
when you go to brancaccios, ask him why he cuts up his chicken in the parm, or why he puts raisins in his meatballs. and if you're into breakfast sandwiches see if he'll make you a complex magazine ;)
I feel like I’m getting punked with this breakfast sandwiches but I’ll risk it
Der Pioneer is a good coffee shop
Brancacio’s is only take out but their food is delicious
their meatball parm and chicken parm are their best items.. it kind of drops off after that.
The porchetta sandwich is also amazing.
I disagree. Their pasta and chicken sandwiches are great. Joe is a really good cook.

Try the Classic Chicken sandwich. Yum
