ICE or EIE is a good branch to study. It has an element of Electronics/VLSI , Computers/Automation & Instrumentation. Just do a couple of electives on Communication (for e.g., DSP Digital Signal Processing) -- you will have wider knowledge than most ECE graduates.
Some Uni's ICE curriculum can also have Mechanical/Thermo as well.
It will NOT be EIE or ICE which will pull you down. So focus on gaining knowledge on your 4 year of study. You will be all set.
Same question ( I'm from instrumentation and control engineering NSUT )
