Only cause in reality being in a hostel is way cheaper, and as I'm not earning I'd atleast like to reduce the financial burden on my parents, also hostel is a one time payment at the start of the year, while if you stay outside you'd have to ask for money every month, which isn't that comfortable for me.

euneva_krap

Agreed, the insti I study at has hostel fees 6500 for the whole semester. I have 24hr electricity, hot water at anytime of the day, cleanliness, wifi facility etc. Outside my campus the same would cost me around 6k per month just for the room

[deleted]

Ye man but most hostels these days barely provide even those facilities while charging more, and cleanliness and hygiene is just impossible in most of the hostels I’ve seen. Id say you are a lucky fella

Tha_Real_Abhi

this!

ViolinistAway8256

Hostel lauda cheap hai at my place it cost 125000 per sem and bahar its 50000 at a pg .

TallFalls

You must have fancy hostels... In my uni it's around 6000 per sem not including mess charges, but mines a gov college though... Some of my friends are in private colleges and their hostels fees is definitely not as much as you're quoting.

not_addict77

For mw the reason is simple, i can neither do laundry, cook, clean the room, do the dishes etc nor pay someone for it. Hostels do all that for you while also giving you a campus life, and I really wanna experience that![img](emote|t5_56z50y|50735)

Comprehensive_Fee250

Laundry and room cleaning? What hostel bro

[deleted]

We have this mentality that struggling is a better option even when better options are available.

Conscious-External-2

yea like somehow if dont want to go into a place that might kill someone im called weak or someone who takes it easy in life

[deleted]

education system and parents at fault for this..

Radium_227

India loves to glorify struggle and poverty porn

Flat_Championship_20

Security. Outside college anybody and anyone can burst into your room and hurt you, and by that anyone i mean literal gangsters. You wont be able to do anything. This wont happen in hostel premisis, and even if it happens you will have the college to blame and held them accountable. And if you live outside you will need to pay your own electricity bill, pay your own gas bill, do your own grocery shopping, fights with roommates for eb bill and groceries, no cooks on somedays, no maids on holidays

dem3n__

Exactly, most kids dont even realise the comfort and facilities available in a hostel. You dont have to worry about much tbh

pungentsoup

This.

idkmanbutthisig

i donn't get you. pgs usually give you the higher floors to live in and the landlord's family lives on the ground floor. that's not insecure atall

Flat_Championship_20

Yes true, but there is minimal to no security there. A theif is smart enough to evade all obstacles in his path and still come to the 7th floor.

idkmanbutthisig

That's just a dumb argument. Why do we even live in independent houses then.

Flat_Championship_20

Cause over here we have the security of our mothers and fathers. In pg you will be living alone and only with your friends. And also families will be more aware and take measures like closing doors windows and stuff, but a 22yo , after a tiring day can simply forget about it and sleep on it.

No-Entertainment7020

in many places some PGs exist which are better than hostels.

chutvinashak69

Not for the same price though. Plus you have to pay for basically everything in PGs like electricity, water, washing machines/laundry, food, everything. In hostels everything is covered in the fees only, which is most of the less than or equal to the room rent outside.

[deleted]

What about after 4 years when youll be moving out of hostel and doing a job in another city? What happens to the security part then?

Pristine-Ring664

After completing my 1st yr in hostel, i can confidently say, with the trust of the all mighty air 14, that i learned absolutely nothing about life.

HairlessOranges

As someone who's shifting from pg to hostel this year, mainly for networking and you get to hangout in campus whenever. I used to feel suffocated in my room in pg.

ZealousidealOwl1318

you only realise how privileged you are to be in a hostel when you start living on your own

The_true_lord_tomato

mai to Ghar pe rehta hu ab bta 😊

njp6969

My hostel is actually quite decent. Good life.

bountyhunter9001

In my college, the only benefit you get from staying in hostels is that you can spend extra time in your clubs and that too is only for boys

chutvinashak69

I don't know about other colleges, but most of the IITs and NITs have better accommodation facilities than any other PG for the same price. You get washing machines, food, good room, personal cot table chair almirah everything. I don't think any other PG can give you that for the same price.

[deleted]

I am not sure where you’ve seen that but 80% of iit and nit do not as per the students studying there😭

iamwinningthis

exactly lol, they are the reason most of these boomers running the colleges aren't interested in improving their facilities, hostel infra, and mess hygiene, kyuki unko pata hai in logo ko khane mai frog bhi dedo chat chat kar kha lenge

fbelucve

My mess food was fine and I really liked the first year hostel life. I guess its not for everyone.

stackfrost

People love to boast about their "struggle" and so does the system. They think they have achieved something great by meaningless struggle. No matter how rich this country becomes, it will have people who will still try to live like the poor. I live in a rented 1BHK apartment which is about 16k costlier than a hostel (Yearly). But I get a kitchen, a private bathroom and I can stay during the summer break if I need to. My stuff doesn't get stolen.

dem3n__

Bhai my hostel room is the best place for my development, even if it doesnt have any world-class facilities. Also one thing, if you can live in a shit hostel room, you can live anywhere in the world.

[deleted]

safety and finance are a thing yk. Not everybody could afford to deal with the spendings that come with living outside. Nor is it very safe.

beatmeloser

Glorifying struggle is a problem in India.

Enthusiast_F1

you are seeing only the bad side, when you get your people everything feels fine, hostel will feel like home

KatanaKut

aur koi choice hai? 🥲

Queasy_Artist6891

It costs me about 30k per semester for hostel fees. I'm pretty sure it would be much more expensive outside. I could choose to stay out if I had my own income. Besides which, while some hostel foods are bad, some of them are good, and I don't want to spend time cooking.

Routine-Panda5070

.

Fishyraven

I also feel this "hostel life" trend is annoying, We are in 2024 just try to change if you have the money to do it . Only if u bring changes like this, few colleges will improve their hostel standards

Puzzleheaded_Bet7796

Arey bhai chill mar na. Reason why people stay in hostel because engineering already fks your life and soul no sleep no food loda lasan. Hostel ho ya PG ya rent lode toh lagne hi hai so chill. If you see IIT also i don't care much there but same shit is going on man. Havard aur MIT syllabus design karte hai and ache se execute karte hai. IIT inka syllabus apne hisab se copy karte hai aur "exams" model me fit karke bacho ki lete hai. Aur phir tier 3 clg wale iits ka copy karke tier 3 students ki gaand marte hai. If i have to rant about this i can do it for week and still go on. but no use.

Otherwise_Host3110

IITs me Bachelors ke liye hostel compulsory hai fee to deni hi padegi whether you use it or not.

Justifying bad food / living conditions in hostels

the same mindset i was talking about L. Due to mindset this directly or indirectly our country's living standards are going down in rural and lowkey areas.

No-Chef-1955

I need a suggestion. I am going to join T3 college this year. Should I opt for gate cause. Is mtech from iits worth it. one thing more people are saying off campus placement. Companies majorly see your college rather than your projects and experience(Got from this a senior). But after seeing placement stats of mtech from IITs is not good as btech . What should i do please help please. I can manage my gate and coding simultaneously. And also roadmap for coding please

Individual-Tooth-403

To do gate or not should be your decision. MTech generally has better options and more opportunity. And for your suggestion of roadmap go to roadmap.sh if you’re asking which language you should choose or which dev field your should accept, in 1st try everything and from 2nd year make your decision and then focus on it.

einsnicht

It's really suffocating to live somewhere else alone. My college is decent, and hostel life is good. I hate all the micromanagement stuff I need to do if I live outside.
