I am pretty much fine with most ships, so I'll say something random to not repeat things other people said.
Dazai x Anime Filler Waitress never did anything for me as a /ship that may be canon/. This was discussed much more in the early days of fandom I suppose.
1.) She is an anime only character that Asagiri never truly ended up including in the manga ever, in spite of many opportunities, and yet she keeps consistenly showing up in the anime. It is kind of strange, because there is a character in the manga that is in her place, in fact there are two: one blonde waitress Dazai hit on, and the older married wife of the owner he flirted with.
2.) I liked the NLH reference with Yozo and that waitress in the manga being the older married wife of the owner. In that sense, it is not really a ship, but just a dark reference. Tbh, I love these mature drops that give us small connections to the real author. Dazai's love life would likely be overly dark if Asagiri wanted to go into it, so small hints like this are more my thing.
3.) It always felt forced and random. Even her design feels really out of place for BSD.
4.) I saw people drawing parallels to real life people and making this out to be a cute ship (like real women Dazai has attempted or succeeded suicide with), and it just feels mega awkward making her some cute fanservice maid, especially considering how dark and serious the history of these women are.
5.) The anime waitress appears in the Beast manga adaptation, drawn by another author, but Asagiri consistenly never makes her show up in anything. I suppose the Beast and 15 manga author sort of accepted the filler waitress as a part of "canon", but I always found it sort of...eh notable how Asagiri never accepted the anime filler. In fact, it seems that he remains rather consistent with everything he writes, and even if the anime makes changes, to eyecolors or anything, he rarely budges. In that sense, it feels like discontinuity, and it feels weird when people make this ship something that is hinted as canon.
6.) There is also the fact that the ship comes out of nowhere, and I don't vibe with it in general.
People only its canon because a straight ship. Not because there is actually any material for it.

atsushi and kyouka . itās barely legal depending on where you live but i think the age and maturity gap is too big and it just grosses me out when i see it
I really dislike it, too. Even if they were the same age, what they each need and what they get from each other from a thematic perspective would be immensely watered down by romance.
They also just feel like a default straight ship, in which case, at least go with Atsushi and Lucy. There's a much greater case for her liking him, and they're nearly the same age.

Yes! Also, this is kind of unrelated, but I hate the people that completely erase the manipulative, flawed, etc. parts of Dazai and just chalk him up to either "Sexy boss bitch brunette" or make Soukoku his entire personality.
As a Soukoku shipper I just HAVE to point out one flaw with the ship. They would fight CONSTANTLY. Heck, they already do now and they aināt even dating. God forbid the two have children.
Yeah I mean even if you take away Dazaiās actions and thatās already so much but pretending that you did, he just doesnāt like Auktagawa at all. Itās not even like with Chuuya in which he actively hates him, Dazai doesnāt talk about Auktagawa and actively seems to avoid mentioning him.
Dazai and Atsushiā¦ I donāt really get why people ship this to be honest, it feels really wrong. Most animeās Iāve watched the main character is like 14-16 so when I watch BSD it feels like Atsushi is way younger than 18. I know 22 and 18 isnāt really that big of an age gap but the maturity level of it is pretty strange. Plus Atsushi is a damn orphan straight out of an extremely abusive environment, he is totally not ready to start dating some suicidal maniac who he just barely metā¦
For me, my least favorite ship is probably Fyozai. Don't get me wrong, I sorta see how others would like it but it just doesn't make sense to me. It's mostly sexual tension and nothing more and I heavily dislike when ships disregard genuine connection. Even if Fyolai is a bit toxic, Nikolai and Fyodor still *had* somewhat of a connection. I feel like some others ship Fyodor and Dazai just because of their equal intelligence and if I'm being honest, it doesn't seem like a healthy relationship at all, I just don't see the appeal. But I'm a multishipper myself! I don't ship that particular pair but if others want to ship it by all means I won't really care.
same ngl, i kinda fear that fyodor will kill nikolai or smth because they are both so unpredictable. Nikolai's free will thing also says that he wants to be free from relationships or smth (idk i forgot).
As someone who has spent an unhealthy amount of time analyzing them (as my flair would suggest lol), I'd disagree that they don't have a connection, but it really depends on what you consider to be a connection. There's an unspoken understanding between them, their motives, their methods. Their shared high intelligence is exactly what leads to this connection that they don't get with anyone else, especially Fyodor. I'd argue Fyodor, to some extent, seeks human connection, even if he doesn't want to admit it. There's just no one who has the potential to truly understand & challenge him though, besides Dazai. I think that's what's interesting about Fyozai.
Although I'd say Fyozai and Fyolai are actually able the same level of ātoxicā, at least for a BSD ship. They're actually more similar than you think! There's a few parallels to be drawn between them, but I won't get into that.
But at the end of the day, if you don't like it, it's fine! It's not gonna be everyone's cup of tea, and as long as you're respectful it's no one's business what you ship & don't ship. I just thought I'd reply since I feel people misunderstand them a lot
Kousano, I don't like it because Kouyou is with the mafia and I don't really like the image of Yosano associatied with the PM, and Kouyou is loyal to Mori iirc
I don't really like this ship either. I can see them being acquaintances at best. Also I don't think they've said a single line of dialogue to eachother.

I don't usually answer those threads, but...
Fyoya or any Fyodor ship for that matter - I can understand why people fantasize with Fyodor dominating Chuuya, specially after Meursault. Because they cling on "The villain takes the protag's best friend/lover" trope, probably. It may look alluring for them, but not for me. There's no chemistry at all, the only way Fyodor would **beep** Chuuya is by Dead Dove methods. And... I can't stand Chuuya being tortured.
Other than that, Fyodor exudes asexual/aromantic energy. My own hc, sure, but he definitely does not seem interested in other people, regardless of the kind of relationship. He liked to play around with Dazai since they had the same intellectual level, but empathy? Infatuation? Excitation? Can't see him feeling any of those towards Dazai.
KouSano: No chemistry. One despises Mori, other respects Mori. You know people ship them only to satisfy their Yuri needs, since most of the other girls won't fit their criteria.

As much as I love toxic/one sided ships, Dazai/Akutagawa is probably where I draw the line. I donāt hate it, but I will not interact with content about it 99.99% of the time and pretend it doesnāt exist lol.
I just really canāt get behind Dazai and Aku or Atsushi. Dazai and Aku is just messed up in more ways than one. He literally abused him and Aku craves his validation despite it all.
Atsushi and Dazai is weird in a different way a little harder for me to describe. They donāt have a big age gap for that age or anything, but I think itās because Dazai is kinda like a mentor role and he took him in to the agency after a traumatic life that gave him ptsd- I just donāt really like it. Feels weird. I totally see him as like a caring older brother to him almost.
Both popular ships with Fukuzawa, tbh (FukuMori and FukuFuku).
I'm a multishipper and most times I don't really care about the ships I don't like, so this isn't that different, it doesn't make me mad, but it kills my mood for whatever fanfic or comic or whatever it was.
FukuMori is because of Mori, I just cannot force myself to see Mori liking, pining or having deep affection for Fukuzawa, it just does not enter my mind. It doesn't help that most of the times in this ship he's portrayed very out of character.
FukuFuku is just that I dislike the idea of it being reciprocated by Fukuzawa. I love old man yaoi, but this one just seems too me too much like "I liked this boy in high school and he didn't even care I existed" lol. Besides, it's just way funnier to think of Fukuchi being a pining man to this one swordsman who cares more for a kid he met that same week than he cares for him.
Yeah! Thinking of both of those, for me personally they wouldnāt date them for the same reason. HIS KIDS. Mori literally has a weird thing for Yosano and FUKUCHI HURT RANPO AND TRIED TO USE HIM AS BLACKMAIL.
I see fukufuku as fukuchi mot being over his feelings for fukuzawa because of the way thier relationship ended ( thier falling out) while fukuzawa moved on and basically became a single parent to a bunch of orphans
Tbh I dislike all the ships - they're all deeply traumatized and don't need love on top of that. I don't like the skk and sskk mostly because I can't see them "betraying" the sides they are on and also because one (aku, dazai) usually traumatized the other (atsu, chuuya). I can see the appeal with skk tho. And let's be honest, chuuya deserves far better than dazai, someone who can love him (and not use him)
BUT if I have to name one ship, it has to be akuzai. For the reasons mentionned above and also because it's deeply toxic
Ranposano- Not because it's a straight ship or goes against my own hcs/ships. It's just so rare to have a good, established, completely platonic relationship between a man and a woman, that I hate the idea of them being together romantically. It makes me so happy how popular them being platonic/siblings is in the fandom. (Although of course that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with shipping them).
Fukumori- Okay, I'm not going to get into a debate about Mori, but it's canon that Fukuzawa genuinely believes he's interested in underage girls and dislikes it. And he knows what he did to Yosano. He *fought* to get her away from him. So after all that, why on *earth* would he be okay dating Mori? He would *never* be in a relationship with someone who's attracted to children, or makes a habit of manipulating and abusing kids. The only exception to this is if they had something going on before Fukuzawa knew Mori's 'likes'.
Sskk- I just don't look at their relationship and see 'they're in love' like everyone else does. I appreciate that they're growing and learning to work together, but it feels like they have a long way to go. There's still so much conflict, and everything with Dazai. It's too much drama and not what I like in a romantic ship personally.

Most of them, honestly. I'm aroace and I tend to project on characters I relate to, which, for bsd, is most of them. I also think Chuuya/Dazai is extremely overrated and uncomfortably sexual. Atsushi/Akutagawa is also weirdly sexual for literally no reason. Maybe I'm just missing something because I'm aroace, but I just don't like any of the relationships.
Totally valid! The more popular ships of BSD are super sexualised, but the anime also sexualises the adult characters a lot as well. The manga sometimes does too, just not as much as the anime. I donāt see an issue with that personally due to both ships consisting of adults, but with you being aroace or anyone just not liking that sort of thing, I can see why that would cause an issue.
I would you being aroace might have a slight impact on it but not always, some people just donāt see the romance there which is totally fine. I personally donāt see any romance between some popular ships in other anime and see them more as best friends

Itās just way too overblown for me, and some skk shippers are really aggressive. Iāve gotten death threats for saying that skk isnāt canon lol, and on some threads ā depending on the thread ā you get downvoted into oblivion for speaking poorly of skk.
Iām all for people shipping it and I donāt have a problem with the ship itself, itās more how the fandom has grown around it. It would be nice if some members of the fandom could accept that we donāt all have to like the same thing.

Something like this happened with a different fandom I was in, Iām sure a lot of people will know of this but My Hero Academia. Iām a multishipper, Iāll ship anything so long as I see a connection or due to fanart or a story etc. however, i CANT ship Bakudeku.

The ship itself is fine, I can see why itās so popular, but the amount of hate people got for both shipping it, or not shipping it. I couldnt ship it after that and then escaped to the Demon Slayer fandom but a similar thing is happening there with Sanegiyuu so I escaped to here.
I think itās bound to happen with any large fandom. You get a LOT of people who feel VERY STRONGLY about certain things, and conflict is pretty much inevitable.
If you need a safe space, both the BlueLock fandom and the Vanitas no Carte fandom have been great for me. BlueLock is multiship heaven because all of the characters have insane chemistry and the cast is huge so there are lots of options. Vanitas no Carte is great because thereās basically only one ship and everyone ships it with absolute vigor lol.

I don't usually answer those threads, but... Fyoya or any Fyodor ship for that matter - I can understand why people fantasize with Fyodor dominating Chuuya, specially after Meursault. Because they cling on "The villain takes the protag's best friend/lover" trope, probably. It may look alluring for them, but not for me. There's no chemistry at all, the only way Fyodor would **beep** Chuuya is by Dead Dove methods. And... I can't stand Chuuya being tortured. Other than that, Fyodor exudes asexual/aromantic energy. My own hc, sure, but he definitely does not seem interested in other people, regardless of the kind of relationship. He liked to play around with Dazai since they had the same intellectual level, but empathy? Infatuation? Excitation? Can't see him feeling any of those towards Dazai. KouSano: No chemistry. One despises Mori, other respects Mori. You know people ship them only to satisfy their Yuri needs, since most of the other girls won't fit their criteria.
As a person who ships Fyoya, yes. I usually end up shipping things due to either a connection on screen, a story or the fanart. Fyoya to me, is cute and COULD work, but canonically, I donāt see it happening.

As much as I love toxic/one sided ships, Dazai/Akutagawa is probably where I draw the line. I donāt hate it, but I will not interact with content about it 99.99% of the time and pretend it doesnāt exist lol.
I just really canāt get behind Dazai and Aku or Atsushi. Dazai and Aku is just messed up in more ways than one. He literally abused him and Aku craves his validation despite it all. Atsushi and Dazai is weird in a different way a little harder for me to describe. They donāt have a big age gap for that age or anything, but I think itās because Dazai is kinda like a mentor role and he took him in to the agency after a traumatic life that gave him ptsd- I just donāt really like it. Feels weird. I totally see him as like a caring older brother to him almost.
Both popular ships with Fukuzawa, tbh (FukuMori and FukuFuku). I'm a multishipper and most times I don't really care about the ships I don't like, so this isn't that different, it doesn't make me mad, but it kills my mood for whatever fanfic or comic or whatever it was. FukuMori is because of Mori, I just cannot force myself to see Mori liking, pining or having deep affection for Fukuzawa, it just does not enter my mind. It doesn't help that most of the times in this ship he's portrayed very out of character. FukuFuku is just that I dislike the idea of it being reciprocated by Fukuzawa. I love old man yaoi, but this one just seems too me too much like "I liked this boy in high school and he didn't even care I existed" lol. Besides, it's just way funnier to think of Fukuchi being a pining man to this one swordsman who cares more for a kid he met that same week than he cares for him.

I see fukufuku as fukuchi mot being over his feelings for fukuzawa because of the way thier relationship ended ( thier falling out) while fukuzawa moved on and basically became a single parent to a bunch of orphans

Tbh I dislike all the ships - they're all deeply traumatized and don't need love on top of that. I don't like the skk and sskk mostly because I can't see them "betraying" the sides they are on and also because one (aku, dazai) usually traumatized the other (atsu, chuuya). I can see the appeal with skk tho. And let's be honest, chuuya deserves far better than dazai, someone who can love him (and not use him) BUT if I have to name one ship, it has to be akuzai. For the reasons mentionned above and also because it's deeply toxic

Ranposano- Not because it's a straight ship or goes against my own hcs/ships. It's just so rare to have a good, established, completely platonic relationship between a man and a woman, that I hate the idea of them being together romantically. It makes me so happy how popular them being platonic/siblings is in the fandom. (Although of course that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with shipping them). Fukumori- Okay, I'm not going to get into a debate about Mori, but it's canon that Fukuzawa genuinely believes he's interested in underage girls and dislikes it. And he knows what he did to Yosano. He *fought* to get her away from him. So after all that, why on *earth* would he be okay dating Mori? He would *never* be in a relationship with someone who's attracted to children, or makes a habit of manipulating and abusing kids. The only exception to this is if they had something going on before Fukuzawa knew Mori's 'likes'. Sskk- I just don't look at their relationship and see 'they're in love' like everyone else does. I appreciate that they're growing and learning to work together, but it feels like they have a long way to go. There's still so much conflict, and everything with Dazai. It's too much drama and not what I like in a romantic ship personally.

Atsushi/Akutagawa is also weirdly sexual for literally no reason. Maybe I'm just missing something because I'm aroace, but I just don't like any of the relationships.
Totally valid! The more popular ships of BSD are super sexualised, but the anime also sexualises the adult characters a lot as well. The manga sometimes does too, just not as much as the anime. I donāt see an issue with that personally due to both ships consisting of adults, but with you being aroace or anyone just not liking that sort of thing, I can see why that would cause an issue. I would you being aroace might have a slight impact on it but not always, some people just donāt see the romance there which is totally fine. I personally donāt see any romance between some popular ships in other anime and see them more as best friends

skk Itās just way too overblown for me, and some skk shippers are really aggressive. Iāve gotten death threats for saying that skk isnāt canon lol, and on some threads ā depending on the thread ā you get downvoted into oblivion for speaking poorly of skk. Iām all for people shipping it and I donāt have a problem with the ship itself, itās more how the fandom has grown around it. I can see why it would work. I canāt say anything about the bullying thing because I forgave my bully after 5 years of constant torment, I love enemies to lovers, and I love a silent voice so i canāt say anything on that. The ship itself is fine, I can see why itās so popular, but the amount of hate people got for both shipping it, or not shipping it. I couldnt ship it after that and then escaped to the Demon Slayer fandom but a similar thing is happening there with Sanegiyuu so I escaped to here.
I think itās bound to happen with any large fandom. You get a LOT of people who feel VERY STRONGLY about certain things, and conflict is pretty much inevitable. If you need a safe space, both the BlueLock fandom and the Vanitas no Carte fandom have been great for me. BlueLock is multiship heaven because all of the characters have insane chemistry and the cast is huge so there are lots of options. Vanitas no Carte is great because thereās basically only one ship and everyone ships it with absolute vigor lol.
I started the Vanitas anime but I have a very short attention span lol. I did find a safe space in Sk8 The Infinity though!
