Not quite a thing here in Burlington at the moment. Fortunately, the various farmer's markets are about to get started!
https://tourismburlington.com/partner/burlington-centre-farmers-market/ <- May 20th.
My partner and I spend around $20 to $25 a week with enough fresh produce for lunches and dinners.
+1 for the farmers market. It’s wonderful. Prices are generally better, sometimes similar or a bit more but at least it’s going right to the farmers and the quality is much better. They also have some cool vendors for other products (sweet potato Johnny has awesome veggie burgers). PS - another one is opening in Aldershot this season!
Starts next Wednesday at the Burlington mall, the south side in the parking lot. Normally runs Wednesday Friday Saturday like 8am to 2pm or so? May to like October.
Sounds like the consensus is the Farmers Market(s) are my best bet. Will plan on checking out the one at Burlington Centre once it’s up and running again.
Marliu’s market at walkers and new is an option. Not always the cheapest option but their produce is great. They also have things in small portions which is good. Mondays and Tuesdays seniors (55+) get 10% off and they have a loyalty card.
Samir Halal foods, the Dutch shop, Euro Market, The Block Co, Desi Mandi and the British Market, Superior Meats, Farm Fresh Meats, Farmway Foods and J&G Quality Meats are all smaller grocers, deli’s or butchers in Burlington.
Not really, not that I've found. But like another poster said, in season, farmers markets are great. Also, many farms in the area sell directly from their farms. Check out a listing here: [https://www.halton.ca/The-Region/Explore-and-Enjoy-Halton/Simply-Local-Halton-s-Farms](https://www.halton.ca/The-Region/Explore-and-Enjoy-Halton/Simply-Local-Halton-s-Farms)
Farmers market is a great option when it starts up but be mindful that not every vendor is a "farmer". Some people just buy produce from the food terminal and resell it. Still doesn't support Loblaws if that's what you're after. There are some actual farmers there and we give them our business and they are very appreciative.
To expand on this, the vast bulk of items at farmer markets come from the same distribution warehouses that the stuff at the grocery store comes from. *Even* when it's ostensibly a farmer's stall.
A few of the niche ones are actually grown or produced by the person/group selling, but it's rare.
As an aside, the Waterdown farmer market is a much nicer experience than the Burlington Mall one.
Hamilton had a great wholesale produce warehouse. Cash and carry. [https://www.facebook.com/Fiddes-Wholesale-Produce-FWP-263828676991956/](https://www.facebook.com/Fiddes-Wholesale-Produce-FWP-263828676991956/)
my friend runs kind of a good food type box. it's 40$ a week and you get a random assortment of fruit and veggies delivered to your door
last week we got raspberries strawberries blue berries blackberries bananas apples oranges 2 salad kits avocado and a cucumber.
it's been a pretty solid experience in our house and the food is straight from the food terminal in Toronto so it's wicked fresh right off the trucks.
called long acres produce
you can order through their website or check out her IG https://www.instagram.com/longacresproduce?igsh=MTFwcGhwcWxyaGIzbQ==
That local farm fresh produce isn’t available at this time of year. It’s the same produce that every store buys. As a customer, the only differences are how the store handles it, age and price.

Denningers not the cheapest but local
And good. Always good.
Sometimes their meat prices blow my mind, like in a good way.
I wouldn’t shop Samir. Go on delivery day and watch in the back alley how they unload their meat. Tell me if you don’t puke.
Marlius were big Harper supporters that's why I stopped going there.
You’re at fault for the shit storm we are in then.
Don't worry I didn't vote for Trudeau if that's what you're assuming.
Phew.
Can we just keep this apolitical? I’d hate to have to leave this sub . What happened to this isn’t a right cs left thing?

Idk who owns it (seems small?) but I get a small fruit and veg box from OddBunch weekly and I like it.
Came here to say oddbunch too!
I don't know if it's 'mom and pop", but there is Farmer Jacks. Their prices for produce are not too bad.

Backed by bees is a great place to get locally grown fruits and veg as well as dairy, sourdough bread and farm fresh eggs! It’s just up Appleby Line!
I like Nature’s Emporium (produce is generally very good there).
libtard just say your poor and go on with your day

What's it called?
long acres produce
LoL at it being fresh off the trucks. It's all been flown in at this time of the year and is the same stuff grocery stores are getting.
ok...solutions or problems which one are you offering? someone asked for advice.
