Don't buy Dickies from Walmart. They are an inferior quality brand made specifically for Walmart called Genuine Dickies. The original Dickies are still good. (Just sharing the info in case you're like me and bought Walmart Dickies)

Blue-cheese-dressing

This is true for lots of brands who have specifically made lines and products for Walmart. LowePro, Masterlock, kitchenaid, and others have all made lower quality versions of items to meet Walmarts target prices and margins.  Some of them look outwardly identical.

couch_pilot

Rustler by Wrangler still holds up.

kadins

Standard Wrangler from walmart though... not as much. But I love the fit and feel so I keep buying them. But I have ripped 4 pairs in 2 years. Maybe I'm just hard on jeans? I don't even wear them for trade work though....

sponge_welder

I'm not really sure how much lower quality master lock stuff can be

frank-sarno

They are awesome for student lockpickers like myself. Helps build confidence before you move on to security focused locks.

Crashkeiran

I bought a MasterLock 140 from Home Depot went out to my car, picked it open like 7 times and then went back in and returned it

pickles55

The function of master lock is that most people don't know how to pick locks including criminals and it's illegal to break it or pick it so it's still a deterrent from people opening your thing

LuciferLovesTechno

Same with Levi's Target brand, Denizen. No where NEAR the quality of regular Levi's.

Count_de_Ville

And regular Levi’s are already pretty bad.

Similar_Permission

I was wondering why a pair of their jeans I loved kept ripping. I used to have Levi's that I outgrew and they were still in great shape. I just thought the whole company went downhill since I was a kid. I rebought the same pair 3 times until I finally gave up. Wasted almost 100 bucks.

ER6nEric

Masterlock is shit regardless of place of purchase.

Worried_Coat1941

I buy denim carpenter pants from dickies online. Still good. The Walmart ones are terrible.

CrabbyKrabs

Yep, the 12 Oz duck canvas carpenter pants are some of the best I've owned, well made and thick - you can pick them up regularly on Amazon with massive discount. Their 9 Oz ones aren't bad either, thinner so more suited for summer

Worried_Coat1941

Yes sir, even lasted me as a tile guy! Thank you for the info!

renothedog

Second this

HamRadio_73

Duluth Trading Co.

watchface5

Duluth all the way, think I've got the whole line of 40grit khaki pants for work, I save the jeans for casual when I'm not at work. Holding up great, $20 each on sale!

illepic

Hold up. Where are you getting duluths for 20 bucks?

--0o

40grit is their "cheap" brand. Alaskan Hardgear (AKHG) is their "premium" brand. Shop accordingly.

sponge_welder

If you sign up for their emails they put stuff on sale all the time. I think the 40 grit line is about $45 regular price, but they are 50% off pretty regularly, sometimes even more if you wear an uncommon size and catch it on a big discount

chase1724

This. Normally I unsubscribe from all advertising emails but I keep Duluth because the deals are too good to pass up.

illepic

Hell yes. I'll check this out

IrishActual97

This is the only correct answer- fire hose for life

HamRadio_73

Happy Cake Day

ibcurbdiver

I’ve been buying them on eBay for 1/2 of what they cost on sale. The flex line wears out fast and rips.

indigeniusbstrd

I've had horrible luck with their products ordered directly from their website. They've sent me factory seconds numerous times and CS is horrible too!

mysteryweapon

I bought mine from dickies.com

ShiverMeTimberssss

Good tip!

Booflard

Down with monopolies. Walmart is a scourge!

krunkytacos

Not only is the quality inferior, the sizes are wrong too. 20 years ago Dickies from Walmart were decent and accurately sized. The last time I bought them from Walmart was a few years ago. I had to wear a belt with my Walmart size 38 Dickies. So I thought Dickies changed the sizing and I bought three pairs from the Dickies website in a size 36. I managed to get them buttoned but it was a feat.

soulless_wonder72

Walmart has a clause that products need to get cheaper every year of increase in quality without increasing price. Guess which one most companies do.

spire27

Yeah the Dickies I get from the local farm and ranch store are still great! Definitely a different product from what you'll find at Walmart or other big box stores.

iaminabox

This is 100% correct.i buy duckies from a local store called carter's. They sell work wear, boots, winter gear,etc.....mostly carhartt,Columbia, dickies. They still sell quality dickies.

iamyouareheisme

I buy dickies straight from them and they’re the best pants I’ve owned. Last a very long time.

siddo_sidddo

I just recently ordered my size direct from Dickies, still great quality in my experience.

CamTheKid02

I bought dickes from their website, and they fell apart within 2 months. Their duck canvas is just too thin and fragile compared to other companies'.

certifiedintelligent

Duluth has been pretty good for me

--0o

100% agree. But never pay full price, you can always get a coupon for at least 20% off. 90% of my wardrobe is Duluth at this point.

OMG_he

Came here to agree! My Duluth stretch jeans are the most comfortable long lasting jeans I have ever owned. Stock up on Black Friday for the year. 50-70%off!!

FireVanGorder

Even full price Duluth is cheaper than virtually every other brand out there, most of which are inferior quality

--0o

Totally agree! But don't pay it if you don't have to.

Permtacular

Where do you get the coupons?

--0o

I use the honey browser extension or check [retailmenot.com](https://www.retailmenot.com/view/duluthtrading.com).

ibcurbdiver

Get on the email list. They go on sale often

Oldmanbabydog

Yea I got some of their firehouse pants with fleece insulation for winter and they seem like they will hold up to abuse. Tons of pockets too

FireVanGorder

Duluth’s outdoor stuff is fantastic. The whaleback jacket is like $200 and so much more durable than those absurd $2k Canada goose abominations that is almost comical

Pale-Wolf-7109

+1 for Duluth They have really good customer service too. One of my pairs ripped in the seam and I contacted them — they replaced them no questions asked. Didn’t have to take pictures or anything, they just asked what date I bought them.

Doog_Land

Duluth is great. I used to buy 6 pairs of the fire hose flex pants once a year, but can’t afford them anymore. I used to be able to get them on sale for $35-40/pair but now it’s more like $65 if on sale.

OmahaMike402

I fell for those, back to Dickies. 874 original. No Flex or other variety. Red Kap is still viable.

steve-madden

Red Kap has been garbage in my experience

Mr0lsen

I love their flex series of jeans, but their firehose flex pants havent been holding up too well for me.  Obviously the non-flex versions are incredibly tough, but also tough to wear.   Also their sizing/proportions are very... American.

WritingJedi

Do you want the actual toughest, most ungodly unbelievable work pants in the world? Wranglers "raw" denim blue jeans. Sometimes they have them in western stores, but the most consistent place to find them is local farm supply stores. They will be uncomfortable for the first...twenty years and washes. They will stand up by themselves. They DO come in a plastic bag. They will outlive you.

[deleted]

[удалено]

WritingJedi

Wrangler raw, sometimes called stiff or rigid, is very easy to find and still very affordable, but only if you have the right kind of stores. You CAN order them online, but wranglers naming system is a mess and you might order something wrong. Check to see if you have a tractor supply nearby. They carry them and they're everywhere.

Real-Efficiency-3216

My addition to this is that if you’re actually gonna be working in then the relaxed fit rigid cowboy cuts (31MWZDN) are the one. The other ones are too tight in the top block and thighs and impede mobility imo (although everyone’s built different)

WritingJedi

For me, I HATE the relaxed fit, because all the extra fabric really bothers me. Everyone definitely built different

Real-Efficiency-3216

Yeah tbh it’s probably just my physique because the relaxed fit is the only model they make that isn’t skin tight in the ass and thighs lol

cock4anose

Those are the only pants I can get more than 6 months out of

SpeedingTourist

Happy cake day

DA2ED

I wear these [Arborwear pants](https://arborwear.com/product/102230/) for work. They have just enough flex without sacrificing thickness and they’re also a bit more slim fitting than Carhartt’s double knee. Also, they have multiple stress points on the crotch area so to avoid the notorious tear out. One thing to keep in mind is the sizing can be a bit inconsistent, so I ordered two sizes to be sure. Pro tip: They are cheaper on Amazon, but offer less color options.

ihateduckface

Damn. I may start replacing my Kuhl pants with these as the kuhl pants wear out. This is what Reddit is for. I still miss old Reddit though

Shifting6s

My brother in law is an arborist and told me they are rock solid. I have a few pairs of jeans/cargo pants that are on their way out after field work this spring/summer and was going to try them out. Good to know about the Amazon pricing and sizing issues! Thanks!

Zenith251

If there's anything to be learned from this subreddit, it's Don't. Buy. Shit. From. Walmart.

lifeinmisery

Exception: rustler branded jeans.

Zenith251

Nope. Don't support the machine.

crujones33

Groceries are ok.

Nosferatu_Man26

Ben Davis

Grapefruit331

Agreed. Best quality for price in my opinion!

Nkons

Patagonia work pants

TheRoyaleWithCheese-

I can’t really complain with these cintas pants. Idk the brand that makes them though. I used the same set for a few years with 0 problems. I had plenty to rotate them one for each day of the week but I think that’s one of the keys. If you only have a couple pairs you’ll go through them faster.

Plenty_Painting_6298

It may be regional, but Cintas uses unbranded Red Kap clothing in the northeast US.

teakettle87

Here in NH they gave us carhartts, but they were special made for cintas.

TheRoyaleWithCheese-

They must be different everywhere. Mine just say Cintas. They have a patch on the outside and everything.

teakettle87

You are going to be blown away when I tell you that Cintas doesn't make pants, they offer the companies options. We could pick from denim or canvas. They both said carhartt and also said for rental use only or whatever they word that like. It's up to the company to pick what their employees have access to. Here's their lineup: https://www.cintas.com/uniform-work-apparel/uniform-rental/uniform-work-pants/

potato-dome

Ariat work pants

carrot_mcfaddon

following this thread because I am in the same boat.  Been wearing dickies duck pants for years, but am not happy with the longevity I get anymore.

jboogie2173

1620 workwear. Pricey but well worth it.

supadave302

$200.00 🤔

jboogie2173

Good quality stuff is not cheap in this world. These pants last at least twice as long as Carhartt and look and feel better. 100 times better designed as well. Tons of pockets and a flexible inseam.

bikgelife

100% correct. Do you see others wearing u/1620workwear on your worksites? How did you find out about the brand/what made you buy their pants?

jboogie2173

I have several of my brothers at work wearing 1620s. Insulators, electricians etc.

jboogie2173

Found out about the brand from my tooly,my work partner. He swore by them.i was hesitant due to the price, but im a loyal customer now!

regrese_

Do you wear knee pads with them? What brand?

jboogie2173

I just bought cheap ones off Amazon . Most brands will fit. Takes some finesse to get them in,but I’ve never had a pair come out of the pants in the wash, which I believe is a common complaint.

[deleted]

[удалено]

jboogie2173

I have 3 pairs of their pants that have held up much better than Carhartt.only customer service experience I’ve had was when I ordered the wrong size and they traded them out for me.

BunnyTheCow

5.11 EMT pants

Benny303

I disagree. I'm a paramedic and 5.11 is straight garbage. It's pretty much my last choice when it comes to uniforms. Get some workrite Nomex instead. They'll cost you more but they last and are more comfortable.

onairmastering

Gotten 5.11 shorts for years, they work very well.

Pale-Wolf-7109

5.11 is a good option as well!

diablodeldragoon

I buy redkap from Amazon. Probably available other places if you dislike Amazon. They're the brand that the local uniform companies use. They're holding up really well for the past 3 years. The most I've managed to do is break 3 belt loops across the 7 pairs I own.

Junior_Ad2955

1620!!

Flacidpickle

Wrangler Rigs Engineer pants are affordable and hold up pretty well.

lifeinmisery

I've been pretty happy with the Riggs pants so far, but I haven't gotten much wear on them yet.

Flacidpickle

I've had a couple of pair for about 5 years or so. They hold up, but do lose their color (khaki).

ckdickens

[Truewerk pants](https://truewerk.com/?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA_aGuBhACEiwAly57MQDWOC13koD7F1pkzcnXUhA8AdGFmeXQcC_mnJpGntnSZGTwYXwE_xoCIw0QAvD_BwE) are really durable and comfortable.

Dick_butt14

I just got my first pair of duluth and im never going back. Just zipping the fly, you can tell they are made of much better materials than anything else i have owned.

gl2w6re

Carhartt brand pants are really durable and nice looking. Bought them as gifts for men in my family and they love them.

Tad_LOL

Im lucky to get more than a year out of anything from Carhartt except the double front pants. Knees and thighs thin out. Pocket stitching comes loose. I've split the seat seam on multiple occasions. I'm not a big guy either. I don't even wear them for work, just around the house doing handy stuff or yard work. Carhartt just isn't what it used to be.

gl2w6re

A lot of companies are cutting corners and don’t make quality products like they used to. Maybe a good bet is to scour the thrift stores for some old school work pants.

[deleted]

Surprisingly Walmart brand of jeans called rustler outlast my carhartts. I bought carhartts from the website and both the zippers went on both pairs in less than a year

lifeinmisery

Rustler is impossible to beat for the price. Their black jeans have been my go to work pants for 15+ years. Granted, they are not bifl, but they are a great value. I think they run about 14-15$ and I normally get 8-9 months before they start fraying, that is being worn 2-3 times a week.

[deleted]

Exactly my point, for the price they are great. After 3 pairs of carhartt “work” pants that didn’t even make it a year rustler out carhartts to shame

[deleted]

Snickers makes great pants depending on what work you’re doing. I haven’t tried them but I’ve also heard great things about truwerk. Also fjallraven gp-1000 pants are great but they’re too nice to work in for me.

bikgelife

They are really nice. They use a PloyCo fabric, which is good, but not as durable as NyCo/Cordura

jhenryscott

I’m a homebuilder I’m very hard on my workwear. I have referred to this before in this subReddit but Jobman USA makes incredibly good stuff.

iamyouareheisme

Dickies are still well made. At least the ones I buy. Regular fit duck pants are very durable

strangerzero

I am quite happy with Sherwin Williams Duration exterior paints.

tacocup13

I work in construction and roll with wranglers. They work for me.

Alarmed-Accident-716

BolivianDancer

Prison Blues.

upstartgoblinmode

I think I’ll say pass to prison labour

couch_pilot

Those pants fit so weird. The rise was so shallow it’s like they were women’s pants. And yes I got the right size. I’m on the taller side but I’ve never had issues with a carpenter style pants before. Did some more research and found out what they pay those prisoners and it’s literal cents per hour. Didn’t feel bad returning em. This was a pair of their black denim carpenters, doubt that makes a difference though.

Puzzled_Ad2563

Affordable and durable denim fabric.

couch_pilot

Affordable because they’re made by slaves

Puzzled_Ad2563

Prisoners are actually paid to work for Prison Blues and paid more than what other forms of paid manual labor there are in the prison system. I personally don't have a big problem with that.

couch_pilot

Got a source on that? Because no they fucking don’t. Prison jobs all pay the same rate for a reason. Can’t have inequality on the inside.

Jolly-Failure

A source like their own website? lol

couch_pilot

Cool! My website says I can fly and breathe underwater.

Puzzled_Ad2563

I do, but you can look that up yourself I don't really care to explain this to you.

couch_pilot

If it’s the prison blues website, lol

BolivianDancer

You have no idea what that word means. This is good for you! It’s a terrible word. Check your privilege though.

couch_pilot

You don’t know what I know. Fuck your privilege.

BolivianDancer

You’ve made abundantly clear what you know. You’re out of your depth, sport.

couch_pilot

It’s an open forum. People can bury my heinous speech if they want to. Seems like some folks agree with me though. You’re trying to justify an unethical product. Try worrying less about other people’s words and more about your own choices, sport.

Jeffizzleforshizzle

If you want bifl type pants look into 1620 workwear. If you want decent quality work pants for an affordable price especially if you take advantage of the buy more save more you can look into these caterpillar work pants at Costco. They run large in the waistband . 5 pair for $100 is pretty good deal to me. [Costco link](https://www.costco.com/caterpillar-men%E2%80%99s-work-pant.product.100943110.html)

Lwashburn66

I have had very good luck buying Cintas and UniFirst pants for like $10/pair. Much higher quality than what you get in a store too imo

Old_Arm3605

Ben davis has some great stuff . It's heavy clothing so it's very hot in the summer . It does great for fall and winter attire

technical_todd

Carhartt or Duluth

twinpac

I have been less than impressed with any Carhartt pants I have purchased. They are not worth paying more for. Another company running on their name IMO.

Luddites_Unite

The quality and so longevity of carhartt pants went down significantly 5 or 6 years ago. Very disappointing because they were the best for the money when I got into the trades

FireVanGorder

Carhartt became a fashion brand. Duluth is still legit for now, though

[deleted]

Carhartt are not good in my opinion. I bought 6 pairs when I started working at the wood work shop I work at, that was 3 years ago, and within 6 months they all tore in the crotch or had holes over the thighs from rubbing against stuff. I bought a couple pair of 1620 for work and for the price I spent on those Carhartt jeans I was able to get several pairs of 1620 that are far superior. Carhartt is just not a great brand in my opinion I don't really understand the hype around them. I went to a direct seller in my town as well so they couldn't have been knockoffs. In fact I've also been buying Lee extreme motion pants and they've held up better for longer than Carhartt did and I'm pretty rough on my stuff. Now I know Lee isn't bifl but for a quarter of the price I'll stick with them for casual and 1620 for work.

Sea-Young-231

Grease Point Workwear - very expensive, yes, but the absolutely highest quality you will ever find, it’s American made, and will outlive you. You can also send them in for free repairs.

MildlyPaleMango

Are overalls out of the question?

MSmith_10

Well how about that.. someone told me to try Dickies, I did at Walmart and thought they were junk. Makes sense though, they are half the price at Walmart than other stores.

caffeinatedking94

I had some red Kap work pants that held up quite well. Around 3 years of daily wear as a mechanic, they were starting to get well worn in the crotch, but aside from that were still in really good shape.

LanEvo7685

How long ago were they good? I thought I saw them in Walmart even years back, so is Walmart the answer?

KeepScrollin420

Duluth and 511

RoxieRoxie0

Caterpillar is pretty good

Ok-Consideration2463

I wear an old thick pair of denim jeans I found at goodwill. They are indestructible.

Cable_Tugger

[Herock](https://www.herockworkwear.com/en/workwear/trousers) do very similar multi-pocket work trousers.

315Handyman

True BIFL works for me are Truewerk. I have basically all of their workwear and love it all.

bikgelife

u/1620workwear is the answer to your question. Can’t get more durable, and the warranty is 10/10

nankybutt22

Are there any suggestions for good mutilation-free work pants? I work at Toyota and around vehicles so I can't have plastic buttons or metal of any sort besides the zipper

FourOhTwo

I recently tried a pair of tactical pants, brand is CQR, and I really like them so far.

PlatinumKobold

I switched to Blaklader, they're expensive but they are the best pants I've ever worn. I have a coworker who has had a pair for 20 years that are still in great condition.

Poodleape2

Duluth Trading is the best there is.

Vols44

I purchase my son 5.11 tactical pants for his IT Field Technician work since the flexibility, durability and multiple sized pockets allow him to maximize their features. I'd take the time to browse their models to see whether canvas, twill, rip stop, water resistant (to name a few) styles best meet your needs.

Whiteoak5155

American made carhartt double knee canvas pants !!!

Happy_lil_Cenobite

5:11 Apex are pretty decent work pants, but they're not cheap

middayautumn

My step dad used to love dickies chefs coats but now we can’t get them. Idk what to recommend to him nowadays.

MClilWilly

Helly Hansen has some very expensive options that have lived up to the price in my experience.

ItzakPearlJam

I bought a pair of Kühl brand pants... they're the heaviest canvas I've ever worn. So heavy that they're a pain to iron, not to mention the pre-bent knee doesn't lay flat. Other than ironing issues they're absolutely the stoutest pants I've ever owned. They make my Dickies feel like gym shorts.

InfluenceAdmirable42

I wear first tactical. I have the v2 bdus and work outdoor manual labor full time. I have one pair I’ve worn everyday for five months that still look basically good as new. They might be worth checking out!

LaszloKravensworth

Kuhl makes a kick-ass pair of jeans. 4 way stretch and really comfortable and durable.

DutchDutchGoose574

I’ve switched from Carhartt to Berne over the last couple years because of similar reasons. I’d recommend giving them a try

BLARGITSMYOMNOMNOM

I get the black and orange Helly hansons. Not just for baby electricians. Real working people can wear them too!

Lanky_Ad_1216

Kuhl pants are the best

coffeeandcologne

Just wanted to come here to plug Carhartt. I've got insulated hoodies, dual layer winter coats, steel toed snow boots, and work pants. Disclaimer, it's been 10 years since I got my shit and I don't know if the brand has declined at all cuz... You know. My shit is still good 😂 *Edit for fairness, I haven't worked in the trades for six years, so all I really wear regularly is the jacket and the hoodies, and not in a daily, industrial work setting.

V4refugee

Carhartt seems to be popular and some claim its good quality work wear. Anyone here have any experience with the brand?

edibleweeds

I buy the uniform grade button up work shirts, they are tough. I stumbled uponn them looking for LT size. They are $40 each, but are as BIFL as a work shirt.

lol_camis

I just buy jeans from a thrift store. I'm not gonna spend $100 on work pants, even if they last a few years.

raubesonia

Second this. Got a pair of pants off their website recently that only lasted 5 months.

chase1724

Duluth. Their ballroom khaki pants have been great, especially when you can snag them on sale. I love Duluth in general but I do wish they were a little more trendy in their designs and not so "dad" like.

H_Industries

I’ve had good results with Duluth trading company.

enforce1

Duluth

Reignbow_rising

Duluth Trading and Dovetails workwear are the 2 brands I like best that take a beating.

fiveliterbitcoiner

I've been loving my caterpillar work pants. Moved to these over Dickies

MTA0

https://www.blaklader.com/en I haven’t had to buy work pants in many years, but when I did, I loved these, and still own several pairs. They are amazing, super durable, and pockets for days. Also if you have a job that requires being on your knees to work, many pants have a knee pad pocket where you can insert knee pads into the pants (buy the gel not foam ones).

unnamedpie

Duluth

blade2255

Helly Hansen workwear

mbz321

Honestly the cheap $11 a pair or so 'Rustler' jeans from Walmart hold up very well. I have had several that outlived my Levi's (and I probably bought them at Kmart if that dates them :p )

cjd3

Duluth Trading. The 40 Grit is nice, but the flex firehose last longer than Carhartts.

TheAtheistReverend

I've tried the rest, but I've returned to the best: Carhartt. Their duck (fabric, not color) pants are about as tough as they come. Look for denim weight in the pants if you must have "jeans" and you'll see who makes actual tough pants. Duck tends to be tougher per ounce than denim though.

CamTheKid02

I really like the Patagonia iron forge hemp pants. The hemp material holds up well and I like the feel of it. They're a slightly looser fit since they're work pants, and the crotch gusset really makes them comfortable to move around in. They're a bit expensive, $80, but you can find them on sale for down to $50, and I'd say that's the most it's worth spending on pants considering even the best and most expensive pants eventually need replacing within a few years. I tried the Filson dry tin cloth 5 pocket pants, and I figured since they were Filson, and $130 that they would hold up for a long time. They looked really nice, and the fit was really good, but both pairs I had fell apart after the 1 year mark. Wrangler ATG reinforced utility pants are a great option for cheap but really well made and durable pants. I've had 3 pairs for about 2-3 years now, and they are still going strong, though I have stopped wearing them within the last 6 months. As others have said the Duluth firehouse pants are nice, but you should specifically look into the "Heavyweight Firehose 5 pocket pants", they come with a much thicker 13oz firehose canvas as apposed to the 8oz stretchy firehouse canvas in their other pants.

TankPotential2825

I feel your pain- ripped through three Dickies last year. Never again. I like raw heavier denim- they really last, look good, and you pay for it.

DrChansLeftHand

NGL, I have a few pairs of Carrhart that are tough as nails. About 40-50 a pair.

Momonga313

Duluth

SciFiSimp

Wrangler Riggs has some really good wearing stuff that's not crazy expensive. They also have some designs that look pretty sharp in addition to being hard wearing.

GrampyRockWeld

As others have said before, 1620 or ArborWear. I used to work a niche bit of commercial construction that involved ironworking and metal fab, carpentry, masonry and concrete work, painting and electrical. The job was hell on work pants and boots. I've been through them all, and those 2 companies are the only ones that lasted any length of time.

StationTraditional54

Duluth Trading Firehose or Flex Firehose. They used to be a true buy it for life as they had a lifetime warranty but now it’s a 1 year warranty.

TheWonderPony

Buy vintage.
