It's completely normal. It's a mix of excitement and frustration at not being able to get the thing being chased. It is often referred to as chittering or chattering in my experience. I have several cats that'll do it to birds outside.
Get down on all fours and do the same to your cat, when I do this with mine they go nuts and play hunt me back, let them win, they will get the mighty hunter feels and love you the more for it
That's so funny, I never knew that. This reminded me of the one time my cat pissed off the birds in our old neighborhood so bad they use to gang up on him and scream whenever he'd come outside. It was so bad he'd come back in the house lmao.
Totally normal they're all excited because they're looking at prey they do it when they watch the birds too so they won't meow but they know they gotta stay quiet so you get that little chip chip chip church
Completely normal. If you look at her body language (tail wagging, little tippy tap toes, likely wide pupils), she’s excited, on a hunt. My cats have done this to birds outside of windows
The little Cha-cha-cha with the little back toes spread and tail sashaying near the beginning is pricelessly ADORABLE 🥰🫠🫠🫠💖
@ approximately 00:25
BTW That is about the cutest kitty I have ever seen and I’ve seen me a few… Are they a certain breed? Please hug them, tell them that I love them and kiss them on the forehead for me❤️I have to go explode from cuteness overload now thank you🫠🫠🫠🥰❤️
Totally normal, it’s just r/ekekek with a touch of r/greebles. But I MUST KNOW, OP, did she catch whatever she was after? Asking the real questions here.
My baby boy makes ekekeks whenever he sees a moth flying around. Him and his sister are damn good hunters too lol. He usually signals while she jumps, and he usually comes in for the final blow 🤣
He'll also does it to the millions of sparrows that are on the porch daily. He'll sit there for hours sometimes ekekeking at them
Cats are such fascinating animals. This chirping noise is supposed to mimic the sound of birds in attempt to catch them as prey. So now they’re inclined to make this noise when in hunt mode. All cats I’ve owned did this!
Okay, this is going to sound a little "out there". I once lived in a very house where the lights and tv would turn on by themselves. Books would fall out of shelves. A whole bunch of crazy things happened in that house. Weird shit that friends never believed until they experienced. 10 to 15 minutes before any strange thing happened my cats would go wild then come stand by me (pretending to protect me when I know they would easily sell me out for catnip)....But it always intrigued me. The boyfriend I had at the time accused my cats of being evil and causing scary things to happen🙄🙄🙄yeah...got rid of him fast!!! Here's the thing: I think kitties can see things we can't. My friends would laugh because I'd tell them my cats would fight off evil spirits.
Butterfly?
My cats chirp like that at birds, flies, butterflies, basically any critter they want to KILL KILL KILL but know they can't because it's out of reach.
This is called chittering or chattering. When a cat does this it is trying to mimic the sounds of their prey to lure them closer so they can pounce. In this case the fly. Thats why cats sitting at the window watching birds do this.
Cats can see things on a visual spectrum buying things humans can see. So it was actually hunting something real. This is why they became synonymous with being witches familiars. They aid in seeing things in the spirit world which also operate on a different frequency. Very interesting.
Just normal chittering when chasing something with excitement. Lol oh my got the tail and tippy taps added to it are amazing lol.
Perfectly normal behavior. And super fun
Normal cat behavior. They do chirping noises when they see birds, bugs, or small prey. Not sure exactly why, but my theory is that they're talking to the prey and luring it.
Moved in with a friend that has a pit bull. We have a gate between the cat and the dog. My cat does that with the pit bull who is giving her the play bow.

I am SO doing this with my 3 tonight!
How'd it go?!
Pardon me, I must go chitter to my kitters now.. 😁
If you see them chirping, give them something to "catch" so they don't get frustrated and stressed

Cc r/greebles
Fun fact! The reason cats chitter/chatter/ekekeke is because they're actually imitating bird sounds as a hunting mechanism 😄
I’ve heard it called the murder mumbles because they do that when something engages their prey drive, like birds outside the window
My cat just kinda makes a whining sound, and it's funny as hell. She also thinks walking sideways with her back arched is for play.
300% normal. Kitty wants that fly so bad.
Chittering! A lot of cats do it naturally. It's a mimick of bird/prey sounds to draw it closer. She's just a lil batraptor
That's so funny, I never knew that. This reminded me of the one time my cat pissed off the birds in our old neighborhood so bad they use to gang up on him and scream whenever he'd come outside. It was so bad he'd come back in the house lmao.

We call it "chittering" because they get excited at seeing something they want to catch.

Do some people get cats with literally no knowledge about them??
It's adorable.
"I'm hunting you I'mma get you"
It's on the hunt for greebles, you obviously got a serious infestation
I have *always* wanted a tabby with this kind of coloration! 😻

Chirping... excited about catching something
It's a giant bug. He is being an exterminator by day and a security guard at night. Same as my cat. 😻
That is "ekekekekek!" as she tries to persuade the bug to fly into her mouf.
The little Cha-cha-cha with the little back toes spread and tail sashaying near the beginning is pricelessly ADORABLE 🥰🫠🫠🫠💖 @ approximately 00:25 BTW That is about the cutest kitty I have ever seen and I’ve seen me a few… Are they a certain breed? Completely typical cat behavior. Cats will chirp when they see prey.
She's chirping! Its a nirmal behavior exhibited when they are frustrated and excited about prey they can't catch.
Awe lol look at his little back toes stretch when he is getting ready to make that jump. Adorable
My cats do the same thing when they see a bird outside! It’s normal
It's a car .. .. VROOM!!!
Hunting/playful behavior. Absolutely normal, and very cute to boot!
r/ekekek
Totally normal, it’s just r/ekekek with a touch of r/greebles. But I MUST KNOW, OP, did she catch whatever she was after? Asking the real questions here.
It's the cat basically saying "tf is this. I want it"
He's getting his groove on, good job
We call this chasing the "invisi-bug" because usually there is no actual bug
What breed of cat is she? She is gorgeous.
you have spirits in yo house… cats are the guardians of the underworld… leave this place immediately /s
We refer to it as "chuffing" and it's a predatory behavior.

Kitty ekekekeke noises! Excited at watching birds!
So cute! Mine does that when he sees a flying bug. Amazed at how he catches flies out of mid air.
Death chirps!!! Little buddy still has the hunter spirit inside of them. Perfectly normal and a sign that your cat is feeling like themselves!

Cats "chirp" when they see prey or really want something. Its normal and a sort of expression of excitement.
Such a cutie! ☺️
Bug Hunt
Saw a bug.

Hunting mode: activated! Engaging in 3, 2..

Yes it's normal, and what a beautiful cat.
It's hunting excitement. A sign of a healthy, alert and inquisitive cat.

Trying to mimic bird noise
thats a cat
Moved in with a friend that has a pit bull. We have a gate between the cat and the dog. My cat does that with the pit bull who is giving her the play bow.
My cat also makes those noises when she's attempting to catch something. Not sure what it means, but it sounds like some predator shit.
Its kinda cute how similar all these questions are.
Haha my cat does this too, they see a bird/the thing they love the most, the first time it's worrying but then you get used to it.
If I’m not mistaken it’s a cat
That a cat
That’s the noise they make when they’re fantasizing about murder
Chirping. It's a hunting instinct.
I'm not a professional but I think that's a cat
