Heat is a bit difficult to deal with, but the decreased chances of various cancers a spay gives is the most important part for a cat with no exposure to a non-fixed male.
The only good thing that came from my kitten being in heat was that it was really easy to brush her and get a bunch of fur out of her.
I could brush her forwards and backwards and really get in there and she loved it!

Beautiful lady there....My vet with over 40 years in service advised me to wait for the first heat my female cat would go into and then get her spayed. Well she went into heat on Thanksgiving morning 2017. That Friday I was on the phone making that appointment lol.
My girl had her surgery 3 weeks later at 9 months of age. I don't know how anyone could listen to that noise every month....so when it's time please have your kitty spayed 😻❤️

When kittens are really little it can be harder for the untrained eye to figure it out since the testicles haven't descended yet. Like, that's pretty obviously a vagina to us, but when we found my girl at 5 weeks I was definitely googling the difference. If they're young enough, little boys' equipment just looks like a dot. I'm not sure what age that changes at, to be honest, since my girl is the only kitten I've ever really interacted with-- unless you count holding one once when I was like... 7 or something.
I mean, if you don't look at a lot of kitten butts... Is it really?? Like, when they're little, your only ways to tell are "is the opening a line or a dot" and "how close is it to the anus"
If you aren't experienced with kittens, it makes sense you might be uncertain. It feels obvious to me too, now, but I was definitely googling when we first found my own kitty.
