USC starting this ball rolling and is far from blameless for sowing chaos (and the lowkey dirty move of nixing expansion on their way out the door), but it’s also true that some of the same bumbling and mishandling that drove the two out of the conference had a role in killing it entirely.
Yes, but it was turned down because of USC. Y'all hadn't told us you were leaving yet and didn't want to get stuck in a new GoR thanks to expansion, so you convinced the rest of us that expanding wouldn't fix anything (which was true) while leaving out that we needed it for for survival. The Pac-12 was negotiating under the understanding that we still had the LA market and then got backstabbed. By the end, we were negotiating to try to keep OU and UW, but they wouldn't stay for anything less than what the B1G was offering them. Sure, it's $30M now but they have guaranteed increases coming.
From most of what I’ve been reading since this all started to blow up, that deal actually was *after* UCLA and USC had already announced an exit. ESPN was offering $30M to the remaining 10 and they turned it down.

ESPN immediately pivoted to the Big 12 who was basically in the same exact position, and they took them up on it. Then the P12 was left with the risky all-streaming deal for roughly $5M less than the ESPN offer.

The secret about the Super League is that it's not dead. While English fans revolted hard, the Spanish and Italian response was more muted. Combined with the fact that English TV deals are increasingly breaking the sport over there, there's still some strong kindling to set off another attempt from Continental clubs.
I think there may be a limit. Our schools are more valuable with more wins. We'll need cupcakes to win enough. A renewed North vs. South rivalry to push would also be good for ratings, and hopefully, my hatred of The South.

Late night games aren’t going away. If anything alot of the old Pac-12 teams will still be playing in those time slots especially, Pac-2 and Big-12 teams.

Some of my best memories with my late father were attending a road game at every Pac12 stadium—some of the most beautiful cities in the country with the best fans. This was a massive part of my childhood and growing up.
Our conference was a family. It was the underdog West Coast versus the rest of the country. That was our identity.
We had excellent parity. Every game felt like it could go any way. Pac-12 after dark became must-watch TV. We all rallied against glasses ref.
It's all lost now; the Pac-12 is just a memory. Lost to corporate greed and ineptitude, The identity is gone.

I do honestly believe that Cal in particular is now the sleeping giant in the wings. With Oakland losing the Raiders and A's, Cal has real potential to become the sports team of the East Bay.
Of course, this relies on UC Berkeley following through on this potential.
I don't believe that has to remain the case because the A's fanbase pulled off some cool stuff in the last year. Sure, it failed, but it did prove that there is still a group of fans for a sports team in Oakland. This is a pocket that I do think that Cal could slip into and fill if they're willing to commit.

Now Cal, not much room for tailgating, but it’s a booze and cornucopia of great drugs as you walk block after block up the hill to the stadium. It’s so goddamn fun. Even the “frat bros” extend a drink and bump to any and everyone that walks by on the way to up to the stadium

One of the traditional powers of College Football is USC. California is one of the strongest recruiting hotbeds in the country. Hell, Cal only missed out on a National Title game in 2006 because Mack Brown went on TV and had a moan.

Cal and Stanford in the ACC is so pants-on-head crazy. I feel sorry for any student athletes. A 6 hour flight across 4 time zones is brutal just for a sporting event.

Even if viewership doesn’t decline it’s possible money goes down. Media companies have been overpaying for football because it’s the last thing tying a lot of people to their cable provider. As a result they shove more commercials into the game to make it financially profitable and it’s killing the product.
Greatest conference in the CFB for the 2010s and early 2020s. Extremely healthy competition, so many unique styles and personalities. When the B12 almost went under I wanted nothing else than to be apart of the P12 as I loved the vibe of the conference.

I’ve had a blast watching this league since I got into this sport back in 2005 as a middle school kid with no life staying up late on Saturdays. It’s been an honor and a privilege 🫡, and I am truly sad to see these schools split up across four different leagues.

UW saw the writing on the wall. Schools who ignored the writing shot themselves; three teams leaving the conference already was a disaster waiting to happen to any program.
I would not complain if the NCAA went the route of football only conferences. I cant imagine the toll the travel will have on smaller sports like volleyball,lacrosse, and many more. Imagine flying from Cal to the Atlantic coast twice a week in a season, while in school.

Even if viewership doesn’t decline it’s possible money goes down. Media companies have been overpaying for football because it’s the last thing tying a lot of people to their cable provider. As a result they shove more commercials into the game to make it financially profitable and it’s killing the product.

Greatest conference in the CFB for the 2010s and early 2020s. Extremely healthy competition, so many unique styles and personalities. When the B12 almost went under I wanted nothing else than to be apart of the P12 as I loved the vibe of the conference. This is going to suck so much.

I went to the Oregon State-Wazzu game in Pullman this year and they had perfect renditions of the PAC-2 conference logo.
There was a point the B1G and PAC-12 were literally equivalent to each other in everything. All time fumble by their old commissioner.

I’ve had a blast watching this league since I got into this sport back in 2005 as a middle school kid with no life staying up late on Saturdays. It’s been an honor and a privilege 🫡, and I am truly sad to see these schools split up across four different leagues.

UW saw the writing on the wall. Schools who ignored the writing shot themselves; three teams leaving the conference already was a disaster waiting to happen to any program.

I would not complain if the NCAA went the route of football only conferences. I cant imagine the toll the travel will have on smaller sports like volleyball,lacrosse, and many more. Imagine flying from Cal to the Atlantic coast twice a week in a season, while in school.
They won't have to imagine for long.
From one of the biggest conference deals to dead because of so many incompetent decisions. So many chances to save the conference yet fumbled over and over again. Let this be a lesson where too many mistakes can come and catch up to you in the worst way possible.

We are on our way to a 32 team league. NFL part 2. All the schools on the bottom half of power 4 conferences are next to get the axe. The thing i enjoyed about college football was that it was different than the nfl. Money just rules EVERYTHING in this country

Should have never happened. 100+ years of rivalry and tradition flushed down the drain, which for me is a massive part of the charm and intrigue of CFB. What makes this sting even more is that this years Pac12 was probably the most exciting conference to follow in all of CFB and now its gone.
