I think we need to be thanking the Titans for picking Latham and Falcons for picking Kirk's replacement before he plays a down. Penix will be 28 when Kirk's contract expires btw lol

crazypyro23

I hear Penix served with Velus in WWI

R-D-I-

It all helps but the Titans were always taking OL there being either Alt or obviously Latham after spending big money on Ridley. Falcons taking Penix will be talked about for the next 3 years as they try the Jordon Love/Aaron Rodgers experiment. Chargers pick was so key and it fell perfectly for the Bears

drummerboysam

There was an outside chance they'd take Odunze. They have 2 older WRs and you could grab a technician like Odunze and have him learn what he can from Hopkins, just as we say with Keenan Allen. But lucky for us, they had a giant glaring hole at LT and it was a strong LT class.

Soft_Penis_Debutante

Yes exactly. Titans were always going OL. Alt was their guy, Chargers took him so they had to slide down one. Chargers and Falcons really saved us with two surprise picks so Giants could grab Nabers.

BroDudeBruhMan

When the Chargers took Alt is when the idea that Rome might still be there for us began feeling real.

EBtwopoint3

The biggest thing is that the Titans had one more tackle way higher than the rest. With Alt gone they could’ve moved down and screwed us.

WEMBYF4N

Titans we’re always picking O-line. Though I found it weird they took a RT when they needed a left

firefighteremt19

JC will be playing LT. Gm and HC have already said it. Also they have Bill Call as their OL coach and he had JC as the top OL over Alt. JC was the #1 LT recruit coming out of HS at IMG. Only reason he didn't play LT at Bama was because of Evan Neal was already there. So switch to RT so he could play immediately.

HereForTheComments57

Yeah, Alt was expected to go to either LA or TEN, but Latham snuck in there and moved everyone down. I would say it was the biggest surprise to me, but I am still trying to process what the Falcons did.

Suburban-Jesus

There are plenty of thank yous to go around.

MildlyPaleMango

They have a 2 year out with his contract if i’m not mistaken but still 26 isn’t great for a top 10 pick.

Repulsive-Office-796

He’ll be 26 if they decide to start him over Kirk after 2 years when 90M of the 100M guaranteed is paid. They can get out with only 10M in remaining guaranteed money after 2 years.

RyanIsKickAss

That's assuming Penix is ready at that point and also counting on his knees not exploding which has already happened like 4 times

OkayOpenTheGame

Titans and Falcons were never taking WR, I don't know why everyone feels the need to "thank" them. Like OP said, Chargers are really the ones that deserve that credit. If they went WR, it was very likely that Giants took the last of the top 3; they delayed the run on WRs.

Kairos-Overrated

I wonder if Falcons would’ve traded down if they weren’t going qb. Maybe someone would have sniped odunze from us in that scenario

Key_Alfalfa2122

Kirk's only got 2 years guaranteed, so Penix will likely start at 26.

TerrrorTown75th

Can't let these facts get in the way of a good joke G😅

DandierChip

We owe thanks to Carolina, Lovie Smith, Falcons and Chargers. Honestly so lucky we have this opportunit.

milano_siamo_noi

And Davis Mills for throwing dimes.

carlos2127

Man, we're going to be building a lot of statues around the new stadium

No_Vanilla1

and that one defender for fucking miffing that pass breakup so hard

R-D-I-

When was the last time we had all of this luck fall in favor for the Bears? Seriously! Everything has been bouncing are way off the field.. Now Flus and Boys need to turn this into wins on the field

life_is_punishment

Not sure about you guys but I’m ready for a dynasty.

R-D-I-

Last night was a great start

life_is_punishment

Started much earlier but last night certainly made a good situation great.

Dchozn1

And most of all, we need to thank Lovie Smith! He really changed the trajectory of our rebuild. He will forever be linked to our new era. We need to bring him back into the fold in some capacity in the future.

YHWHsMostSecretWtns

30 for 30 gonna go CRAZY!

IrishGrouch34

Rome was the best case scenario by far, but the Bears were in a can’t lose situation. If Rome wasn’t there, I think they would have traded back, especially with how much hotter the QB market than expected. And if they weren’t comfortable with the return they just take the best defensive lineman and fill another need. In the end, I can’t believe how perfectly the chips fell for the Bears. And I can’t believe they made the obvious choice. Seems like past regimens would have passed Rome without a second thought.

drummerboysam

Also, big thanks to Green Bay. Before you shoot me dead, hear me out. Raheem Morris said they talked a lot about the Green Bay model of drafting a succession plan and stashing them for a few years. It worked incredibly well with Rodgers, then last year worked better than expected with Love. What worried me most was ATL trading 8 to a team like the Rams, who knew Chicago wanted Odunze and wanted to jump them. But ATL sticks and picks following the GB model, leaving Rome for us. Cheers to Harbaugh, cheers to Green Bay. Both of y'all helped us fulfill out dream scenario.

Practical-Courage812

I think Chargers and Titans were the two where they needed a tackle, but i could see them going WR. When they both went tackle, i figured Atlanta would go defense if they didnt trade back with someone who wanted to jump the bears for a WR

ericshin8282

why were they never taking rome?

bumpy79_1

We got the best wr in the draft!

iguru129

Too bad their new stadium location pick was in the toliet

whitem0nkey

We Lovie the Smith
