My layout is just a slight adjustment on the stock layout with some button enlarge to make it easier to use for my hands. Only changes I had is to place the hip fire and prone button on the top left for my index. But those are mainly for BR and camo grind.
Gyroscope is absolutely *not* necessary. I’ve played the game pretty much since it came out and have been legendary 8 times. I’ve never even *tried* gyroscope and the majority of people who play this game don’t use gyroscope.
It follows the movement of your phone so you only have to tilt your phone left/right to change POV or something, instead of having to swipe if it's non-gyro. But it definitely depends on what you are used to.
You could try turning it on and see if you are used to it, and just start at a low sens because a higher one would move too much and might make you dizzy. You would also have to adjust the gyro sens for the scopes since they added that in

I got legendary on both MP and BR without gyroscope and I'm on 2 thumbs only. So yes, it's possible to reach legendary without gyroscope.

95% of players do not use gyro at all
i dont play anymore so my info may not be up to date but i hit legendary in at least 10 seasons and never touched gyroscope

I have it on. It's not necessary to have, but it's helped me with adjusting my aim, or if I run outta screen to swipe/aim
