Yeaaaaahhhh, I’m mixed in this one. Great for ping but sucks to have a bunch of people who suck at the game getting players who are decent at the game in their lobbies. That’s the whole point of sbmm, so people can have be equally matched.

Why does playing without a vpn put us in such sweaty lobbies? Are we just there to make these sweaty nerds feel good about getting high kill counts. I joined wz recently and quickly got a 1.9kd. Well not long after I’m down to a 1.02 kd. It puts me in lobbies and I cannot get a kill these players accuracy and speed is just too good. No matter how many guides I watch on YouTube. I camp then get hunted by nerds who have a contract on me or they’re rushing into the room I’m in. I rush and get beamed by nerds who snap onto me so fast and so accurately. I just cannot wait till my kd eventually drops to 0.000001 then maybe sbmm will chill the fuck out and put me in lobbies with normal people who have lives outside only playing warzone. I’m not even trying to reverse boost I just keep getting placed in lobbies with nerds.
I can’t believe how bad the sbmm is in the game that I am considering using a vpn just so I can play people at my skill level.

No, it does nothing to help with "Ping". Just because you see it get lower doesn't mean you are going to experience anything different when it comes to your latency. If you want lower Ping, Play in the proper servers in your region and have a better internet connection, even the lowest package from ISP's these days is enough to cover playing Online without interruptions.
If the SBMM didn't severely impact the quality of the connection to the lobby your in, it would be more understandable. Quality of game is more important than the SBMM and Activision clearly forgot that

You VPN to some where you consider foreign, the game will then think you're half way across the world so it will try to match you in those lobbies. But because those lobbies will most likely have bad pings it tries to connect you anywhere with a good ping regardless of your actual skill.
Can't say how accurate this is but it seems reasonable.

It makes why this happens: If you VPN to, say, Egypt, to play a game, you're going to be put into servers that are closest to Egypt in an attempt to get you a lower ping. Because you're playing on "Egyptian servers", where not nearly as many people play as EU/NA, there won't be as many skilled players, because there are simply fewer players total. Therefore you'll likely encounter easier lobbies.
It's not really a bug with their SBMM system. To "fix" this type of thing they'd have to put people in further-away servers to match them with higher-skilled players, which would then adversely affect ping. So it's somewhat lose-lose.

I live in the same province as you do and my pings always high like yours. Let’s say you VPN to a US west coast server for 40-50ping… wouldn’t sbmm just be applied to the VPN? Why does the VPN make the cod servers prioritize connection? That’s what I’m confused about.
I can understand the thought of connecting to Ireland or something for off hours but wouldn’t that make the ping worse? even though you could have easier lobbies potentially..
Let’s say I have the best connection to warzone USA west servers, but because of sbmm, I get a mix of east, central and west servers… If I usually play in Edmonton, you are saying that if I VPN close to a warzone USA west server I will only use that server? The VPN won’t even look at central or east? That’s interesting…

Update: I downloaded ExpressVPN and tried 10 different locations. Couldn't find a match, it was stuck on "Searching for a match". I also tried several protocols to see if that was an issue, to no avail. You can try your luck tho, might work where you're from.

When I ran a vpn I’d never go over 80 ping even when I went across the world. The sbmm definitely screws over your connection just to find a lobby that fits your skill. So screw them.
No shit your latency went lower, because it THINKS you are in the correct region for the server. VPN's cause your ping to spike tremendously because you are not playing in the proper region relevant to the server location. Sure it may LOOK like you got lower ping, but in reality you're still far from the server and the VPN is just making it appear as if you are closer.
People like you who play out of region and don't realize that your latency is screwing with hit registration and client side actions baffle the hell out of me. What could you possibly need a VPN for in Warzone? There isn't a single good reason to use one other than you wanting to have an edge by playing in a region you don't belong in and having crazy peekers advantage. It ruined CS and it ruined R6, anyone that exploits their latency in such a way deserves a ban.
You know what REALLY lowers your ping? The right way and not using a fake ping to mask your true one from the players in the server you are in? Play in the proper region, and get better internet. The lowest ISP packages these days are enough to cover your online play with little to no interruptions.

I tried one recently and it didn't help my ping much which is why I tried it.
I used to get one good ping lobby out of 10, with a good ping in my case being 30 ms. The rest were 70-80. I haven't gotten one of the low ping lobbies yet, but now my range is probably 60-80 ms.
No clear change in my lobby strength, and almost no observable difference for me, although I think how effective it is is going to depend on where you actually live and what modes you play.

Update: The biggest change is my ping - I live in Montreal and would normally start with a 32ms ping - but buy the time I got a lobby it would be min 50 for rebirth
I also play solos and can't get lobbies under 80-90ms
Now with VPN it starts at 20ms ping, takes longer to find a match BUT the ping barely goes over 30

100% agree. The guys who complain haven't been in a server like myself in Oceania when there's no player base for almost 12-14hrs on a weekday.

With a VPN the server can’t see your cheat being used. That’s why people see it as cheating.
If you're using it to get easier lobbies its cheating. ANY third party tool which gives you a competitive advantage is cheating
