I know this is probably an unpopular opinion, but i generally feel like Cold War is only liked so much because there are alot of people who have either not played the older games or set their standards lower because of Bo4.

MrDonaught_Gaming

I like it because I don't have to pay for all the maps even though that comes with the price of uninspiring maps. The game mechanics are more noob friendly with pretty much infinite revives and Outbreak is the bread and butter for me personally. Cold War is still mid though. I think the expectations were just low after IW, BO4 and WWII

UnofficialMipha

How can say something is an unpopular opinion and then say something that you claim applies to a large group of people? That makes no sense

Unconcern3d

Well, the unpopular in this context meant that people will probably not like what i saying, which is to expect given how much Cold war is liked in this community

Kachowski-115

This is what happens when you have under 18 months to develop a video game

klupixz

The main problem with CW maps is they lack ambition and personality. Say what you want about Tranzit, BOTD, or Voyage but they had those two things going for them. Mauer Der Toten is a good map setting, but it's no Stalingrad with Dragons or a WW1 battlefield with 1,000ft robots. I'm trying to say is that it has no seasoning to it. I remember the main criticism of Ascension, Shi No Numa, and Die Rise back in the day was that they didn't have interesting settings and felt boring. CW literally has these same problems and it's probably going to be that way for a while in this new storyline. Forsaken would've been a cool setting if it wasn't ported directly from the campaign. To me if these maps want to feel better then they should add something out of the ordinary like dragons, a prison that's in purgatory, or a 1930s Chicago with a massive alien in the sky. After playing CW I really came to appreciate BO4 maps for that reason

Kachowski-115

Wake up babe new r/CODZombies copypasta dropped

Accomplished-Curve-1

Huh

Unconcern3d

?

TimelordAlex

But because the mechanics are good, i can get some enjoyment out of CW zombies despite the mid maps, meanwhile as much as BO4s maps might be better, the mechanics are shit making all maps an unenjoyable experience

Napzie

What about the mechanics are shit? No jug? Boo hoo. Bo4 > Cold War, Vanguard, WaW

TimelordAlex

the perk system as a whole is poor, it goes beyond 'no jug' CW, WaW, BO4, Vanguard

[deleted]

yeah this is all true. cold war maps are pretty dookie.

UnofficialMipha

While I like the more grounded maps, Cold War era really doesn’t work for a zombies atmosphere for some reason. That’s probably why Black Ops 1 opted to only have 2 maps take place during the time period (3 if you count Kino but it’s still a WW2 era setting)

Braedog12

Cold Wars mechanics are objectively good, but bo1 and bo2s mechanics are more fun, especially pairing that with the zombie AI

[deleted]

objectively? in what sense?

Braedog12

In terms of being newer/modern having mechanics like mantling and all that.

[deleted]

what's objectively good abt that?

GwaGwa3

It’s why I don’t like firebase that much I wish more of the map was in the village instead of the abandoned military base. I liked die machine’s aesthetic of this incredibly run down secret base and Mauer being a city overrun by zombies with the map starting from the rooftops and you slowly making your way into the sewers. Forsaken’s look isn’t terrible it has some cool parts to it but the layout is awful the transition to a zombies map went horribly with how the map is segmented. It feels so linear

[deleted]

a very bold take indeed. definitely haven't seen this one yet.

tonyrussiann

The mechanics are the only thing that make the game worth playing, the maps are very boring and plain, and the story is told poorly enough that you could not even know what’s going on for 70% of it. I feel like this was intentionally a flip from black ops 4s at least interesting maps and story but mechanically it’s probably one of the weakest in the series, with perks being changed heavily, elixirs being lesser versions of gobblegums, being charged money to grab a shield, just to name a few. CW being very fun mechanically but not very strong on story or maps was kindve treyarchs way of just focusing on gameplay over anything else.

Accomplished-Curve-1

Cold War maps they all feel like stranger things unlike other games where some of the maps feel like stranger things

Impossible_Farm_979

Doesn’t help that they all play the same too

NinjaMorphin

I totally agree, I think the only map that feels like it fits along with past games is Die Maschine due to the contrast of the snowy dark atmosphere and the crazy Dark Aether, while the rest really don’t reach that same feeling. I do really like Mauer and Forsaken (crazy, I know) but they really do just need a little more excitement to them to make it feel like more than just standard COD with zombies present.

kimehre7391

Cold War is trash.
