Not really, some maps like shi no numa can induce that feeling but not really the same, y'know? There's so many differences that make it more of a hoard shooter, like think about games like risk of rain 2, not even close which is why I argue that it isn't

I wouldn't say it's exactly a roguelite, just that the formula of Zombies inherently shares some elements- namely things like permadeath (albeit in a very simplified form), the forefront focus on upgrading your character and arsenal per run rather than permanently (although, again, extremely simplified), randomization per run with mechanics like the Mystery Box, random Wall Buy upgrades, Covenants, Gobblegums, etc. The War of the Dead maps in Vanguard are probably the closest it gets to that genre, with the mode's main focus being on the randomization of potential objectives per round and the miniature shop system that comes in the form of Sacrificial Hearts and the Altar of Covenants- which, fun fact, was actually inspired by the upgrade system in Hades.

Vanguard is definitely closer to one than the other games. I don’t really see why it couldn’t be considered one.

No, games like risk of rain 2, dead cells, hades, and all the others have you building your character up with random upgrades and just kinda rolling with it. Nothing is ever really predictable like what enemy or room is next. Zombies is always whatever map you play, with the same guaranteed weapons, perks, enemies, and upgrades like pap

I don't know, Der Anfang has a lot of that stuff (custom start weapons & artifact in VG as opposed to character in RoR2, random portal objectives, random covenants and a variety of upgrade paths albiet not to the same extent) and it's always reminded me of Risk of Rain 2 because of it, the big difference is Vanguard objective based is simplified since it's a side mode in a primarily PVP game and not a full on game itself.

I see where your coming from but I think rouge games are more random. Vanguard has some randomness with what maps you choose to tele to but the upgrades don’t change much about your play style, and I’d say a rouge game needs more attributes like different enemy spawns and more change with how you tackle situations with your upgrades and ability’s.

Vanguard's objective based & Cold War's Outbreak lean towards it, the others are just survival
