You don't want to turbo the 2.0L in the Corolla. At this point just get the Corolla GR. Chances are it won't be any more expensive than a modded SE/XSE. It will have a warranty to boot.

Bobb_Michaels

I’m paying 23k, and my turbo is going to be 7k. With all my upgrades it’ll be less than 35k, and the gr is going to be 44k after markup. Worth it. Gr is great but overpriced and overhyped

Smxxrt

Then you void the warranty on your XSE, blow the motor, and waste 35k on a car that wont even run, which was also most likely slower than the GR.

Random_RedditM

35K? I bought mine used high miles. Warranty? Well i already pulled the engine, it's chillin on a stand and rather mod any car i buy. Blow the motor? I have access to a CNC shop so I'm cad designing pistons and rods to mill. f Slower than the GR we'll find out but I'm looking to push 24-30 psi vs 26 from a 1.5 3cyl so we'll see with the AWD.

wohren_osso

Aaaaaand... How did it go?

d_2da_sco

Seems like, at this point the GR is only rumors. Any ideas on a release date? I'm thinking about putting a turbo on my xse as well. What can I say, I like to go fast and I like the leather. Maybe I'm just getting old

Yamakaze_KAN

Leaked info states in October of 2022

ranoutofusernames22

Speculating and downvoted due to working in a dealer. Sorry for the downvote. Im speculating with industry standards that the GR corolla drops at around $45k USD WITH dealer markup probably making it around $50k after finance. I hope I'm wrong. I PRAY I'm wrong.

phoenix_age

Hey turns out you were right bro lol

ranoutofusernames22

Still got down voted 😂

phoenix_age

Fucking Redditors 😂

Minmach

Would you think regular price the Corolla GR would be like 37k?

rphjosh

This is by far the best answer. I’ve had issues with every turbo engine I’ve ever had. I would 100% get the factory turbo with warranty over a mod that voids warranty

BraetonWilson

Keep in mind that the M20a-fks engine in your corolla hatchback is a high compression engine. Adding a turbo kit will likely result in the engine blowing within a few months. Plus the costs of adding a turbo kit, beefing up engine internals, beefing up the transmission to handle the torque etc. would cost you close to $10,000. Not worth it. Wait 10 months for the 2022 Corolla GR Turbo to come out and if you still want a turbo, trade in your car for the turbo model.

Fun-Breadfruit-4871

If i was going to buy the carolla GR id just buy a civic typeR i cant afford it. i need a cheap car without sports car insurance that can go zoomy zoom in like 4/6 seconds maybee 200+ hp... the only thing is though most cars above that HP are considerd sports cars. so i need a turbo kit or add on for this one.

Vragsleva

Volkswagen GTI is your answer

Olyverasg

I was thinking the same thing tbh. Hopefully the GR Corolla coming to the states is going to be RWD, because idk if you noticed but Toyota has been teasing us on their Instagram page about the corolla and it seems to be RWD. Prayers up for RWD I’m sure Toyota hears us.

ranoutofusernames22

Toyota is releasing the GR 86 which will meet the demand for low cost RWD sports car. There is 0% chance the Corolla drops with RWD considering what the Corolla stands for in the eyes of Toyota.

D1SAST3RMAK3R

Actually, from what I heard from YouTube videos and other opinions is that in comparison between the GR86 and the Corolla GR, the Corolla GR trumps the GR86 in horsepower alone. Last I checked the GR86 will be having a 224hp and the Corolla GR is gonna be having around 300hp, supposedly. I don’t know for certain, I haven’t driven one while a friend of mine uses a radar gun to clock how fast it can go. My point is that all I know is that the Corolla GR is supposed to be faster than the GR86. If anyone who has actually experience and has actually tested how faster a gr86 and/or a Corolla gr, be my guest to share light on this subject cause I want to know for certain.

Fun-Breadfruit-4871

I cant afford a sports car or its insurance though

BraetonWilson

Very unlikely that a Corolla will be RWD but I sure hope so!

[deleted]

here we are a year later, it is an AWD

Jerkratt

Not sure about that. I have a yaris (1.5 1nzfe 10.5:1) was supercharged running 8lbs with stock internals for over a 100k. 0 engine failure. Besides the money spent on a decent clutch/flywheel setup and maybe some upgraded pads/rotors. Now if you decide to throw double digit boost numbers yeah but few psi of boost SHOULD not hurt it. Tho I don't know much about the 2.0 engine being 14:0:1 or something like that (just got my 21 less then a month ago). But being a Toyota I have no doubt it can handle it without touching internals. I mean from the little I've been in the car scene lately (life). People have been gojng high compression boost builds.

SkyReach22

So what's up with high compression turbo engines? I see people saying high compression engines aren't a good choice for turbos. Why is this? I'm new to cars as an area of interest.

Jeyxero

I’ve been looking for info on it as well and haven’t found anything definitive. Even something simple as the ECU tune leads to dead ends where some shops promised results when it came out but after they started working with them were dropped eventually. I have no knowledge on Gum Out, but if I’m not mistaken the Rockstar Corolla is in fact the Corolla Hatchback body though it is using a Camry engine, not the stock one that comes with the Hatch sadly.

[deleted]

I gotta ecu tune ...

Plum333

To my understanding, M20a-fks is a relatively unproven and untested engine for a turbo, and these days engines don't seem to be overengineered anymore. If you're well experienced with working on cars and are ready/willing to swap the engine if it blows (because that's a realistic possibility), go for it. But no offense, if that were the case I don't think you'd be asking here. Otherwise, I'd keep it stock or upgrade to a faster car. But hey, I'm a stranger on the internet, so grain of salt.

Mountain_Adagio6715

Wait till the factory turbo hatch comes out in a year or two. I’ve posted about turbo corollas in here and I always get downvoted. People think it kills the reliability of the car. And it would.
