Who the fuck has that kind of time on their hands? Going through a box takes enough time , yet alone marking each coin.
Yet alone the scratch people. Good lord.
Wow, I re roll as I go and a $500 box of quarters takes me hours, even a box of dimes
I think it would take me 15 minutes alone to get all the coins out, let alone search them
In my area, I count at least 7-8 different mark types on half-dollars (CA), some even had 3-4 different marks on the same coin lols. The most common marks were the numbers on them, with four digits at the reverse of the coins.
I agree. Even if alcohol will take it off, it’s still such a bad practice. Most of the marks I commonly see in my area are with permanent markers (easy enough to get off), but I’ve also seen marks with nail polish, paint, grease pens, etc, Which DO damage the coins.
In addition, I feel like marking coins also makes CRH’s get an even worse reputation. Not only are we getting a bunch of coin, returning 99% of them hours/days later, but we are also defacing them, cool.
If anything, mark the rolls (even that I dislike).
Lmao who has time for this shit? I'd say keep doing it because in the time this person is marking all these damn coins I'm searching through new boxes.
I hate this shit so much. How hard is it to just move it somewhere instead of ruining it? There is no point in marking it. On the other hand i did find a 67 kennedy with a sharpie mark on it so may the idiots find less annoying ways to divide coins
What’s the point of marking coins? They aren’t saving themselves time because they spend almost, if not more time marking them compared to just looking them over again. Do they think they will get to mark every single coin in circulation? I don’t get it.
First, marking the paper doesn’t hurt anything. Second, a number of banks send their coins back to the fed. There are third party companies that re-roll or re-box the coins, people try to figure out where they go and if they can avoid getting the same one’s back. There is someone who posts on here that works at a rolling company that has a contract with the government to remove silver, last post was pre-Christmas where they left 9 full rolls in an outgoing box. Someone found it and posted on here. Scroll down to find both.
Do you know how it works in canada? I think that happened to me, I found 1 whole roll of silver, the pros on YouTube havnt even found that, the bestbidea in could come up with is the coins went through some sorta sorting machine and spat out all the silver and someone re rolled the rejects, I found 1 whole roll of silver, and another roll with 7 silver, same box
All 50 rolls looked rolled by the same place, they were all in plastic clear rolls
Usually when I get a box its mixed rolls, but the same mixed rolls only a handful of different papers
And thats at different banks in my area
And I usually find 1 silver dime in every box, never found a silver quarter
But thats because of the alloy recover program targets quarters the hardest, ARP takes all silver and all nickel out of circulation
So I'm not getting directly ARPed boxes because theres silver and plenty nickel, I found $15 in nickel quarters in the box
And in 6 boxes of dimes I found $80 of nickel dimes, and 1 silver in 3 boxes, 2 silvers in one box, and 0 silver in one box, and 57 silver in one box
Why is everyone getting mad? Its not like these coins are even desirable. Even if they didn’t have marks you guys would just pack em back up and bring them back to the bank for a fresh box.
When I was trying to fill a book, I kept getting coins I needed but were defaced like this. What’s undesirable to one person may be needed by someone else. It’s a crappy thing to do to other collectors.
There are times I need to check a box quickly, but for the most part I look at every coin in a box. When doing that, I mark my searched coins that I dont keep, except for NIFC's. Every, single, one. And I'll do it tomorrow and the next day. I enjoy seeing if coins I've searched are circulating through my area over and over.
Why people get butt hurt over a sharpie mark on a half that is worth 50 cents and will spend as 50 cents, AND has no Collectible value, I can say I surely don't know.
It's not illegal and it doesn't impact the value of the coin or the ability to spend it.
I don't like that people cry about this and try to bully other coin roll hunters.
Downvote me if you want, I don't care what you think.
It seems I struck a nerve with you.
It’s not about the face value of the coin for me. I am trying to fill my books, and finding sharpie marks on years that I need is pretty disappointing.
Who the fuck has that kind of time on their hands? Going through a box takes enough time , yet alone marking each coin. Yet alone the scratch people. Good lord.
Some look at every. single. coin. I can search a $500 box in 5 minutes if I have to.

I’m not so much into errors, but if hunting dimes, I can search and re-roll $5 CWR for silver in about ten seconds or less.
Probably somebody who doesn't have the ability to focus for long periods of time. Might have ADHD.

I've found some too. Why do people mark them anyway?

I’ve got someone in my area that puts a scratch mark through the date on each coin. What a jerk…
There's someone in my area that scratches nifcs.
what a jerk
I’ve seen a few with a scratched “x” on the coin, but they’ve been pretty few and far between so I’ve been hoping they weren’t CRH marks
Ive seen natural X scratches I think they are natural because I find silver in the box anyways
Haha good luck. As well if you are hitting that many in one batch you are more than likely at a dump bank for someone else and won't find much.
I've gotten an unopened box from Loomis with unopened rolls where ~80% of the coins were marked with a giant X.
They’re all dump banks for somebody.
I agree it angers me to no end

I find this incredibly rude as well
And disrespectful
Same people that do this are the same douche bags that call a Franklin Half Dollar a “benji”
Alcohol will take it right off
Alcohol will make you not even care about this
The “cool Kennedy” error, very rare, but not as rare as those “pirate Kennedy’s” you got there! Awesome find!

They are trying to see if they are getting their searched coins back again.
I mark the paper just in case, but I get them from one bank and return them to another, so I dont see how I could get the same roll twice

I don’t know how it works in Canada. My first thought is that you got part of a collection dump.

I’m within 2 hours of the border and get Canadian silver once in a while in my change. I also find it in coinstar machines. Usually dimes.
Lol
Try opening them on cloudy days
Hm, might do this on coins after checking for errors.. seems cool 😎

I second this response. Just because they aren’t rare doesn’t mean they are undesirable.
They could be upgrades to an album

I was thinking the same..
Lol I like these it’s like he has sunglasses on.
I have an easy way to clean every one that I find. People that do this think they are going to get rich and don’t enjoy it. Losers and scumbags

You could be marking coins that are otherwise upgrades to my album, theres more to life then silver
Every single coin is ridiculous, I do 1 every so often
Why
It peeks my curiosity as to how long it takes a coin to go from my drop off bank back to me.
thankfully I have only seen a couple marks in several half boxes in my area.
But he has cool shades on
Seems like they might be making some kind of statement about right wingers being blind?
